Financial Services at the Cancer Center in Georgetown are inept and amateur. You wait on the phone…read moreto pay your Co-pay for over 20 minutes and then disconnected. The Doctors and Radiation team are great. Financial services and support are non-existent. Sad. For this reason I give Cancer Center support services a very negative feedback.

WATCH YOUR BILLING. BENJAMIN DOWNIE is running multiple fraudulent schemes to line his pockets. I…read moredon't see that he necessarily "cares" about his patients AT ALL. How do I know? Well, for starters...if you are a fertile or peri-menopausal woman with ANY type of anemia (even the kind that can't be corrected with IRON--as in LEUKEMIA), he will prescribe NON-INDICATED IRON INFUSIONS for which you PAY, OUT-OF-POCKET, for $630...because your insurance knows the treatment is NON-INDICATED. He'll order a ton of blood tests at your initial appointment, and magically be "out-of-town" when your results arrive, showing that your anemia is NOT RELATED to LOW IRON. You'll ask a nurse if the iron infusions are still indicated...and, after you sit for five minutes on hold, she'll come back in to say..."Yes...we think they will HELP you." You'll be told that Dr. Downie will meet with you to review blood test results AFTER YOUR SECOND (CONTRA-INDICATED, NON-COVERED) poisonous FERAHEME infusion. --BTW, a year ago I met--by sheer coincidence--a perimenopausal female phlebotomist who saw Downie for LOW PLATELETS. He talked down to her and her husband, and stared at her breasts just like he did with me. He recommended IRON INFUSIONS for her LOW PLATELET ISSUES. UMMM? NOT APPLICABLE at all?.... and she was SMART ENOUGH to POLITELY DECLINE.) Back to the FERAMEME infusion. When I arrived--about a week-and-a-half after my first appt. with for darling Dr. DOWNIE--to receive the FIRST of TWO prescribed FERAHEME iron infusions at the Georgtown-situated Austin Cancer Center, I paid the $630. out-of-pocket. I was led to a chair in the INFUSION ROOM of the Georgetown AUSTIN CANCER CENTER, where I was asked to sign A WAIVER for INJURY from the FERAHEME INFUSION. I read that FERAHEME is ONLY indicated for IRON-DEFICIENCY ANEMIA--which I DON'T HAVE--in patients with CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE--which I also DON'T HAVE. Well, since I used to see physicians as AUTHORITY FIGURES, I went ahead with the FERAHEME INFUSION, along with the sizable IVs of STERIODS and BENADRYL--employed to protect me from documented SUDDEN DEATH. The day after the FIRST FERAHEME INFUSION, I was violently ill. I was crapping out stuff that smelled like LIVER. I realized that I was a potential victim of IRON OVERLOAD. My body couldn't handle the massive OVERLOAD of IRON I DIDN'T NEED. When I refused the SECOND INFUSION, Downie DROPPED ME AS A PATIENT. I never received communication about my initial test results, so I found them on the Patient Portal. DOWNIE is about INSURANCE and MEDICATE FRAUD--he's prescribing NON-INDICATED, HARMFUL treatments TO MAKE A BUCK. ACC also DOUBLE-BILLED my insurance for TWO PROCEDURES, and sent THE SAME BLOOD SAMPLES to MULTIPLE LABS with OVER-INFLATED BILLS I received A YEAR-AND-A-HALF later. TODAY (18 months LATER, on 12/4/19) I received YET ANOTHER BILL from ACC for the POISONOUS FERAHEME INFUSION for which I had paid $630, OUT-OF-POCKET, on 6/12/18. It turns out that--while my insurance STILL REFUSED TO COVER THE FERAHAME--they negotated MY out-of-pocket cost for FERAHEME at $130.89. Today's bill is for $130.89; a cost that's not only NOT DUE. I am actually owed a REFUND of around $499., because ACC knew about the negotiated rate but still ASKED FOR $630. up front. Medical billing is confusing--especially when it's trickled out past 18 months, which is the cut-off rule for payment for late medical billing in Texas. Consider that Dr. DOWNIE usually deals with ELDERLY, Medicare patients (i.e., your potential loved ones; PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS ) who can't keep track of the crazy-confusing bills sent to Medicare, and you may very well smell a rat who's only looking out for himself. Let's see what the TEXAS MEDICAL BOARD thinks when I file a complaint. Something is clearly ROTTEN HERE, and DOWNIE must think WOMEN ARE JUST STUPID. THIS. IS. FRAUD.

They have been very good for me (and to me). I see Dr. Ashleigh Porter who is professional,…read moreknowledgeable and pleasant. She monitors my condition regularly & takes action right away if something isn't right. The infusion nurses and lab staff are all sweet and have a good sense of humor. I have never encountered anything to complain about. Waiting times are typically short and the support staff gets the job done well. They have an on-site affordable pharmacy for oncology-related prescriptions and the office staff will help you explore and set up various charitable drug grants. You don't have to face cancer with worries about your quality of care. These folks get it right.

I highly recommend her, and I believe she is new to the team there at Texas oncology. Front desk staff are very nice. Helpful as well. Scheduling and check out is efficient for the huge volume of patients they process every day. There has been a hiccup with my insurance carrier for about a month now so my appointment today was for labs and I wasn't able to get them as the referral had not come back yet. I believe the issue points more in the direction of the Medicare Aadvantage Plan Part C plan and not the hematology/ontology office. Their appointments do seem to run behind at least 30 minutes, so budget your time accordingly. I'll add more an update this once I get my labs in a couple more weeks.

I have been a patient for 10 years and am APPALLED with the drastic decline in service in recent…read moreyears and especially this year. Phones are NEVER answered and messages are never returned. The switchboard operator behaved like nothing more than an evil gatekeeper today. For over 30 minutes as I tried to reach ANY other live person with the organization, she repeatedly intercepted every call that I made and every option that I chose from the automated system. She was dead set on me not speaking to anyone with ACC. Her behavior was HORRIFICALLY rude for anyone in a customer service position and considering that she deals with CANCER PATIENTS who are facing life and death battles, I'm beyond disgusted that someone like this would ever be employed by an organization that claims excellence. I LOVE the doctors that have provided care to me over the years. However, I can no longer deal with the stress, neglect, and abuse by the support staff. It took a week for me to simply get a call back to get my appointment scheduled. It has been 19 days since my appointment with my doctor and 9 days since my MRI results were received. I was assured by the doctor that I would receive a call from him to discuss the results. I have left repeated messages and received one response (from an MA to confirm my questions which she was going to consult with the doctor) followed by further silence and repeated ignored calls. After waiting patiently for 9 days, I had to deal with the phone gatekeeper who is intent that the cancer patients of ACC do not reach any employee who can resolve their needs or concerns. I've also been waiting since my appointment date for the ordering/coordination of another test as well. I've referenced this in my messages as well and still nothing. So so sad that this is the treatment of a cancer center. I will be transferring my care elsewhere, as I do not have confidence that if future treatment is needed, it would be tended to in a timely manner and viewed with the upmost care and respect. That is a risk that is not worth taking when dealing with cancer.
