In an effort to be more active, I thought why not walk her to a nearby coffee shop by the house. J&S Coffee is one of coffee shops nearby. I am not sure if pets are allowed but I left Yuki outside. Inside, the shop looks friendly and the service was good. I didn't stay long. The latte was good with reasonable price, $5.35 for a 20 oz latte. Although my visit was short but I could not see a reason to not give this shop a 5 stars. I will return but will stay longer the next time.

The space gives a bit of a rural and rustic vibe, with the large sleek industrial roaster in the center of the seating area. We were treated to a start to finish roasting demonstration and samples of the dark and light roast drip coffees, along with tasty biscotti. I brought some scones home for a treat for my wife - she loved them. Mass Street has no shortage of coffee options, ranging from small local biz to corporate Seattle,…read morebut La Prima Tazza brews up one of the *best* coffee drink menus in this town. Whether you like your coffee hot or iced, LPT has flavors and options galore and each drink is handcrafted and made to order. You can even get their housemade roasts to go with super-competitive prices. I love their house espresso roast and at $13.50/lb., that's a fabulous value. Their baristas are friendly and *know* coffee, and I got hooked on their signature Vienna blend after a barista recommendation. It's not as 'burnt' as many dark Vienna styles and it's still a fave for me. Parking is Mass Street, so either you pay or you find your way in. La Prima Tazza doesn't have a ton of seating due to the size of the space, but the intimacy lends to the charm of a local kaffehaus. They've been here for more than three decades and it remains one of those places that I always suggest when people ask about coffee in LFK.

Outlets are available in certain areas. We ordered an iced latte and were a little bummed that they didn't use espresso shots but rather dispensed from a container of cold brew? It didn't hit the mark for me unfortunately. The flavor was milder and was almost watered down. If you are craving a classic iced latte, I would not recommend this item. Overall, Java Break is an option on Mass St. to chill or study. But, I'll have to try a different drink next time.

I took a meeting here and the person I was meeting with gave me a few local options. This was the place I hadn't been yet so I thought I'd go a bit out of my comfort zone and try a new spot. Something I was nervous about from the photos on Yelp was if there would be enough inside seating when I arrived for a meeting. When I pulled up, I was still a bit anxious about this as the front lot was full and I had to pull to the back to park. Once I got out of my car and walked through the cafe to the front to order my anxieties about seating had diminished. It's much larger inside than the outside appears and the photos here on Yelp don't really do the indoors justice. Yes, the outdoor seating is really cute and well shaded so I get why folks focus on it, but if you're like me and wanting to get some work done you'll find a comfortable spot here. Now onto the coffee. As I made my way into the shop I noticed one of my art school professors (we both sort of looked at each other like "do I know you?") and I moved on, but that's a good sign. The art teachers usually know where to snag a decent cup of coffee. When I ordered I tried one of their special drinks and chatted with the baristas about it before I made my choice. Extra points here because not only was the drink really, really good, but the girls working were beyond friendly and answered all of my questions. I'm not lying when I say this was one of the best cups of coffee I've had in Lawrence in some time. I wouldn't hesitate to return.
