Such a cool independent book store!!! I was in town for a work function and after it was over, a few of us decided to stay in town before heading out and one person really wanted to check out the bookstore. We walked in, and I could have spent all night in there checking things out. I really wanted to buy this Jane Austen stationary set that comes in a box that looks like a book but held strong ( I didn't have much room in my suitcase for that!) I did find really cool postcards to buy, and there was so many other cool things and I didn't even get to see the whole store. It appears that the store also opens into a game store on one side and a boutique on the other, so you get this really nice flow of shopping. If this was located closer to where I live, I feel like I would be stopping by more often. read more

Auntie's, I love you, and I'm so glad you're here. I make a point to come downtown to buy my books from you as much as possible, and order them from you when you're out of stock. Just two suggestions: 1) Please don't play music in here, as it's hard to concentrate. I'm reading words while I'm in here. Music, except for softly piped, lyric-less, unobtrusive compositions, is distracting. Why is it being played? 2) There's nowhere to sit... please put chairs around so I might browse a chapter or two. If you're concerned people will come in and camp out and not buy, I'm guessing they'll be in the minority. I've been shopping at Auntie's for years. Every time I come to Spokane to visit my family I make an immediate beeline for the lovely downtown location. It is quite literally my favorite place to shop in Washington state. Auntie's is a bastion of literacy in something of a cultural no man's land. The shelves are well stocked with books for every reader and in every price range. Some are signed and some are used - perfect for me. As I have watched the number of independent bookstores dry up in recent years, it is refreshing to see Auntie's not only keep its doors open, but truly grow and thrive. Swing by and check it out. This book store is HUGE and awesome. I took my out of town sister here because she is an avid reader, and I thought she would like it. I had never been in there before, but she told me that it was a slice of Heaven for her. She walked in with quite a long list of books that she wanted, and ended up finding all but one. Plus a few more. They have a variety of new, and used books. Also have some cute events for children. Which I will be further looking in to. read more

The best (and biggest) bookstore in Spokane. This place is probably as big as Moe's, but it has that roomy feel of Kepler's. The used books are more picked over than Defunct's are, and you'll definitely pay more. However, this is the place to catch a reading, and just chill out with a cup of joe and read. I love Auntie's personality and perseverance despite a market saturated with giant chain retailers. A wide variety of products to choose from as well as an enthusiastic staff to help you find what you need. They have a quaint location among other local businesses right in downtown Spokane. Love the poetry section and now, there's a nifty coffee place, at the top of the stairs. All the staff workers KNOW books they like, and ones you might like, and know where everything is! We love to browse for books on Sunday, get a coffee, and listen to the FREE Music Jam, upstairs, on Mezzanine....every Sunday: Looking down at the books,and all the indie bookstore sweetness, it doesn't get better. This is an okay bookstore in spokane, the atmosphere is just alright and the chairs are cozy to sit in while you look at books, believe it or not if a book shop doesn't have a cozy chair it's probably not worth going. This place has a decent selection of books although it wouldn't hurt for them to bring in some more diversity . It may not be the best book store I've ever been too, but so far it's the best I've been to in spokane. read more

Auntie's is the best bookstore I've ever been to. It's huge and has lots of used books as well as new ones. Unfortunately it's 3000 miles away from home so I don't get there very much. The business trips that used to take me to Spokane ended several years ago and Auntie's is one of of the things I miss the most. I love their selected mix of used and new books at a fraction of the cost of those big chain book stores. You can most definitely get lost in the bookcase after bookcase filled with what else but books. This wonderfully laid-out, open store is huge. The amount of books are incredible. What's more, on every floor, there are employees who are eager to help you find THAT book. Its obvious they relish their jobs almost as much as I enjoy coming into the store. They don't mind you sitting in there reading for hours. You do need to check all backpacks and bags and such, but they give you a clothes pin with a number on it. I thought that was cute, and practical. I don't want to drag around my bags while I'm busily perusing the aisles anyway. read more

I swear they have a huge book selection. If not. Easy to order within the store and they call you when your book comes in. It is a 2- 3 level store book store, so if you need help and can't do stairs. They are happy to help you and I mean no elevator. (At least, I didn't see one?) What a lovely bookstore. One of the few left on this planet and I loved it! We were in Spokane for a convention, so my friends and I decided to go into Auntie's. Someone told us this was an icon of bookstores and pretty well known. The store itself offered many selection of books and some gift items. Towards the back of their store, is another store that butts up against it where they sell pottery pieces and other items. Very nice! read more
