Visited Giant Nerd Books with my son- we loved the store! Lots of great finds, very interesting topics of books to read. And the best part- Elvira the dog who is the welcoming committee at the store. She is absolutely adorable and loves books too! The owners were also there, and they are very kind welcoming people. This is a must see in Spokane- if you love books, classics, collectibles, and rare finds, this is the bookstore for you. We can't wait to go back! I enjoy going to this store when I am in the Garland neighborhood. It has new and used books and has a great laid-back feel to the store. The service is friendly. They do things old school when it comes to checking out so be prepared for this. I brought a friend here from TN in Sept and he purchased a book. Unfortunately, the person filling in for the owner who was on vacation overcharged us due to not being able to read he handwritten price in book. The plus? The owner was quickly on top of that and refunded the money of the overcharge. I will be back and probably will buy another book or two or three or four. read more

I love bookstores. When I visit a city my first search is for the local bookstores. This bookstore is one of the greatest I have ever visited. This was an interesting book store... especially if you're looking for something specific in the nerd/geek realm. It's a very fitting name. Bought from several times. Inquired and set aside a book with a question. Left number and didn't hear back. Returned to the store and was told the book I inquired about should not have been in the box I was looking through as it was reserved for one of the owners. I did not receive a phone call because they couldn't read their employee's handwriting. Would not let me purchase the book at the marked price. Gross inconvenience and very disappointing. read more

I love a local bookstore but the selection here seemed very specific and unusual. While I can appreciate books that are not best sellers, I was really not interested in the selection here. I can almost always find something for me in any bookstore, but not here. Would be a good place to go if your taste fits but it wasn't for me. read more

Had a hard back copy of Robert Caro's The Power Broker that I had been looking for at other used book stores for some time.

First time in and I'm very happy to have stopped in. I recently began collecting old books and created a long reading list. I was able to find the most in depth, numerology book. Exactly what I needed for super fair prices. The astrology books are from $7-$24. The out of print books on that higher end. My numerology book was $10 and in like new [1970s] condition. Huge Buddhist/yoga section as well. Atticus cafe downtown has vintage books from Giant Nerd Books. I bought a collection there, that's how I discovered giant nerd books. The selection of books here is good and the store is well organized and easy to walk through, but the prices are outrageous. Used books that are still in print shouldn't be more expensive than the MSRP. read more

When they talk about how Spokane's been getting better and better over the years, this is a prime example. I've only been once, but I'm impressed. There was this awesome dog hanging out in the store, maybe the proprietor's? Sweet pooch, carried around a tennis ball, very mellow. The dog also lounged on a chair and watched me be amazed at the wonderful selection of books in this store: SF/fantasy sure, but also solid sections for sociology, politics, comics, music/film books. Just a wonderful atmosphere, too. Music being played from the back room included Bauhaus and Public Image Ltd. I know I'll return. read more

This Spokane's Dark Delicacies, and could EASILY become something like Bookman's in Arizona, simultaneously. If this place scares, you, go to church. I messaged Giant Nerd Books about a few books I wanted to score. I saw them on Amazon for $46 and they were about a week out. I wanted to support an independent/local business so I message Giant Nerd. I got a quick response and was offered both books for $50. A simple Venmo transaction and 2 days later the books were delivered. I will definitely buy more books from Giant Nerd. And when I am in Spokane next will visit the store. Two thumbs up. The real book shop in Spokane. I am old enough to remember how cool an urban book shop can be. But don't quote me on that. This is that by far that and above. Old classics, rare stuff under glass - odd ball, obscure and new books alike. Often, there is strange and delightful music on the speakers and curios on the wall. You can get lost in the shelves. I hope they stay one of Spokane's subculture landmarks for many years to come. read more

Great little bookstore on North Monroe, just across the river from downtown. The selection of used books is not as vast as you may find at Aunties or Monkeyboy Books, but better than the Book Parlor. It is still enough for you to find something interesting to read. In addition to used books there are a number of new books on pin-up girls and burlesque and other such topics. Giant Nerd has books on consignment in a couple other locations around town, including Atticus (where the selection is always worth browsing). The entire back section of the store contains books that are available for sell online (Amazon, ebay). The day I was there, the owner had just got an acquisition of used books that he hadn't sorted through and they were stored in the back of the shop in this section so it was not available for browsing. I am certain that I would have enjoyed the store a lot more had I been able to see these books. There are a few free on street parking streets right across Monroe and additional metered parking on the street as well. Grab a book and then go read it next door at Coeur Coffeehouse! read more

Imagine stepping onto a quirky movie set, a mix of Guillermo Del Torro and Indiana Jones type of shop. In here you will find a magical place run and owned (single owner brick and mortar store) by an insanely clever dude named Nate, who seems to be versed in every book imaginable. Local and obscure art dot the walls and oddities like preserved snakes in bottles find their way around the massive amount of books that stack and line the shop. It is a book lovers dream! Any zany or weird subject you would want to find is most likely here. Hands down the absolute best used/new book store around. Seriously not trying to blow smoke up people's bums... but just go. If you love anything different, remotely weird or you are just a nerd come here! Also this is the only place in Spokane I have found complete collections of Ursula K Leguin books! Yay Nate! Giant Nerd has a fun atmosphere of unique and creepy weirdness. Really quirky and eccentric people are often in the store adding to its appeal. There is overall, a good selection, of quality books, that you won't find elsewhere in Spokane. You can actually lose yourself in the store, which is a wonderful feeling. The owner obviously is passionate about books, and reads, so that makes a real difference. However, there is an odd and seeming inappropriate juxtaposition where the kid's books right up in front are directly across from the pin up books. Yes, the store's joking mission is to make Spokane literate via one dirty picture at a time, but they might want to consider arranging it so the pin up books aren't right next to the kids books. Unfortunately, my real complaint about the store is often the books are overpriced. I don't mind paying more than I would pay online to support a local shop by a couple of bucks considering shipping and handling. But when the books are marked new, and one pays a few dollars more than for what it's going for online, that doesn't feel right. I wish there were more book stores that were mysterious, magical, and fun in Spokane. Giant Nerd is the only one like this, but we need more to fill the niche. read more

Above and beyond, bar none, this is the best bookstore in Spokane - probably the best bookstore within at least a 300 mile radius. Giant Nerd has a sharp eye for the most unique and appealing books, both popular and rare. Their sections are choice-picked, so you won't have to dig through the Jonathan Kellermans or Janet Evanoviches - not-a-one or anything of the sort. What you will find are sections dedicated entirely to vintage hot rods and mechanics, old pulp novels, pin-ups, and the strange and bizarre (among others). But besides that they carry a hefty stock of all the greats and heavy-hitters in literature, philosophy, and popular fiction. Good art & photography books, and a fun comics section. Prices are better than reasonable, and if you're like me you'll walk out with a stack of books you've got to carry with two hands, and not cursing an empty wallet. Don't pass this place up, whether you're a local or on vacation. And don't be fooled by the name - you don't have to be a giant nerd to love this place (but it sure does help). read more
