I purchased 4 individual Full Gas ($60) seeds, out of the 4, only one sprouted with a stalk about the size of a pine needle, the others did not even crack. I even used 2 methods, soak 24hrs then into dirt, and paper towel method. I'm not a newbie and have sprouted many seeds without any problems. I just think this is pretty shitty to do to a customer. I will not be going back and will spread the word about this. They did reply, they said that I was inexperienced, after 60 years I've cracked more beans than these 2 have seen! Funny how the seeds are'nt even listed on the distributors website, that tells me OLD SEEDS! Then they badger me on fb and send a jpeg of an order for seeds dated 12/2022, at least 1yr 3 months ago, and thats if they sent fresh seeds from the distributor, Bottom line they dont stand behind their products and treat local customers like shit. 1st of all buddy, your missing the point. If I buy something from a retailer (you), and bring it back because its faulty, the retailer takes it back and then THEY deal with the company they got it from, not the consumer! Are you just an idiot?

I was stoked they had seeds, as a breeder myself, they have a decent selection with some hitters (Twenty20 Mendo), and other less commercially available packs. I would say to the previous bad review, that just because you plant some beans doesn't mean you are replicating the natural conditions. If not, you may not get them all to sprout. Just saying, each cultivar has requirements, Sativa's can be very stringy, and can require more heat and different soil conditions if they are heritage lines( say Jack Herer ), and just because things worked in the past doesn't mean you have the same water, time of moon cycle, proper day / night temps and proper soil hydration. So many factors, and you got 1 to sprout. Why complain at the store, sounds like you maybe should buy a different pack that may work better and understand your abilities are not the same as nature, so regardless of how incredible you are, nature happens. Old seeds, I pop seeds 10-15 years later, especially sealed packs. They aren't bad after a year, 3 months unless they are really being mishandled. And I too bought seeds, and 100% germinated, because I do follow strict guidelines and KNOW what I am choosing to grow and how to grow it. Not all plants are the same, they in fact are all very different. Last note, old stored seeds for no longer available lines are highly sought after and can go for 10-20x the original pack price, some cost $1500 for 10 seeds that may not sprout. Good genetics cost money and are hard to come by. Some packs being 20-30 years old at ridiculous prices. Just keep that in mind when buying a few seeds, you may only get 1 healthy plant, so buy more and plant a few extra. If you get too many great plants, pass one to a friend.

First of all, this is not a botanical garden. Do not come here expecting to walk around a park or…read morehave a picnic. This is a nursery. They grow and sell plants. There is a nice selection of all kinds of annuals and perennials, but nothing extraordinary. In addition to the main area, be sure to check out all of the numbered greenhouses. It wasn't until after I had purchased over $250 worth of small plants that another customer told me about the greenhouses. I bought so many plants for hanging baskets and discovered that they had an entire greenhouse of hanging baskets for $20 each. Ugh. I absolutely would not have purchased all of those individual plants. The other thing is that the staff there isn't friendly. Maybe they are understaffed. No one approached us, or was able to help us. When we asked for a specific plant, they didn't know if they had them or not. Some of them we later found on our own. The other thing is that the plants aren't entirely grouped together. Most of the coleus plants are in the large main greenhouse, but what I was actually looking for was outside. Also, they charge for boxes. Wow. After spending over $250 for plants, they then charged me $.30 a box to carry them and put them in the car. This place is pretty good but I don't think I would return. I would rather go to a place like Adams where you can really get someone to help you out.

I don't like getting my hands too dirty in the garden, but when I noticed Chavez's Facebook page showing their end-of-season sale on ALL trees+shrubs in late October, a visit here had to happen. Especially since hubs and I have been adding greenery to our new home's landscape. This garden center has a really nice greenery selection and to also add, Chavez is a cheaper alternative to the big box (HD/Lw's) stores- which have been pricier for me quite honestly. Here at Chavez, I got fantastic local advice from the friendly owner, Juan. I bought a couple of Laurels and a few other items to really add lushness to the front and back of our new home. I brought hubs along on our second visit so he can also pick a few items. We couldn't beat Juan's prices for two, almost 6' high, $100 ea Cypress trees that'll grow like giants. Service was great from both Juan and his wife Earth. This is one spot I'll keep in my mental bank. Do keep in mind, these folks close up shop in late Fall- so if you need to purchase anything, plan accordingly.

They had a wide variety of HOT peppers, which really piques my interest ! I find their prices to be competitive or even reasonable. The owners are always very helpful and friendly. I've found some annuals here that I've never been able to find at most other local suppliers, especially the "big box" stores -- there's just no comparison in the varieties offered. They close mid-summer due to (I'm assuming) almost a full sell out of their plant stock. They run a good business and their plants sell well. Last year, I did have a couple of annual ornamental plants fail to thrive and eventually die just a couple of months after I purchased them and promptly transferred them to my hanging baskets. I'm an experienced gardner and homeowner for many years. I do generally know what I'm doing with proper plant nurturing and maintenance. However, when I addressed this with the female owner, she just shrugged her shoulders and said "oh yes.... those tend to be very finicky and difficult to maintain." At the time that I mentioned the failed plants, I was at the register making another sizable purchase. It would have been nice if she had just knocked a few buck off of my total purchase, but she made no such offer. Oh well..... I still like the place enough to continue to patronize Mike's Hot House.
