How much greenery can you fit into one place? This place is just massive. Augustine is perfect for…read morethose who value the marriage between greenery and design located in Kingston, NY which offers consultation services to turn your space into a leafy oasis. If you need to spruce up your backyard and overall landscape at home, Augustine's will help you out. While they do mention that their consultation isn't anything in-depth, the person will call in advance, set up an appt with you, travel to your home and for 30 mins or so, they will you fill you in on some plant know-how. The service is $0. Our general landscaper relies heavily on these folks for their shrubs, trees, plants and garden supplies. In the last year we've had our home, we just let our landscaper know our mission and he'll tackle it with the type of look we want. But this time, hubs and I visited and decided to personally select( 2) 5-6' pine trees on our own so he can go ahead and plant. Penny is one of the head honchos here and knows a thing or two about plants and trees especially when I asked about certain types of plants that would deter bees- since I was stung the summer of '22 and left me traumatized. The service is personable AND they offer Veteran discounts. They're pricy for sure- but if you're willing to pay the price to add a stunning look to your garden, a visit here is essential.

You know the drill: you let the person know which pieces you want and then they'll get them from the flower glass fridge. But there's something about hand-picking your stems yourself. Petalos, on Fair St. in Kingston, hit that nail on the head! I met the man behind Petalos- who's bringing a whimsical and cozy oasis to the space. Brian's love of flowers is on full display throughout his shop. Whether my visit on an early Saturday morning was spontaneous or not, the succulents, house plants, pots, gardening items and loose bloom selections here are almost endless. The several stems I selected to create my own arrangement at home all varied in prices from $3-$5 He'd mentioned the names of my individual cuttings- but their names escaped me. I was here for one thing only and Brian made my day. My stems were gathered in a bouquet, wrapped in heavy duty brown paper, lined in green tissue paper and tied elegantly with a navy blue ribbon (with attached care notes). My visit started and ended in a high note. Everything about Petalos- from the wonderful and pleasant customer service, design and product, will lead me to repeat.

A train buddy of mine recommended this place as a good destination when taking a trip with the…read morewife. He said they had lots of trains, and other things that would appeal to the misses. He was correct on both counts. It took an hour to get here from Albany (actually, a little more because we got lost and our smart phone led us astray) and as we were arriving at lunch time we both hoped that food might have been part of their wares. Sadly, it was not. What we did find was a charming store that seemingly carried everything one could ask for if trapped in a nearby camping area. They had an eclectic selection of nature, history, cooking, an entertainment books; local candles, soaps, and jam; sewing and craft supplies; toys, puzzles, games, and other similar things; car, boat, plane, and R/C plane kits; metal soldiers and castles; chochkes and knickknacks; and they had trains. I took about 45 minutes in the store and believe I saw everything. They didn't excel in one area but had a nice selection of a little bit of everything. Their hardware section was extremely small, and I overheard someone asking for twine which they didn't have (and I thought that was odd). I was hoping to find some old fashioned candy but their sweets selection was limited. I purchased a small soap for my mother but otherwise didn't buy anything except a pastry made nearby at a bakery. But, I came for the trains and they had lots of them. Someone looking for a train set would find a good selection in various scales (N, HO, O, and G) here. Their prices were decent and considering that they were located in the middle of nowhere I think more than fair. Their selection included lots of new, modern trains (meaning, made recently) which surprised me, as well as some old, used trains. They had books, magazines, hats, whistles, and some VHS tapes that likely will be there for eternity. They had a couple of display layouts that hadn't been operated in a while, including one in Z scale which I thought was neat. Sadly, I couldn't find anything I needed. I hate going to a train store, especially one where the proprietor is actually trying to run a nice store, and not buying anything. They had some things that interested me but their prices weren't what I wanted to pay. They had some great prices on things but I didn't need or want them. So, I bought a pastry and left without a train purchase, actually feeling disappointed. It is a cute store. It won't replace the local, well stocked train stores near me but it was a fun destination place. For anyone camping nearby that needed something to keep themselves busy I can imagine this would be a little bit of paradise.
