Augustine used to be a great course (years ago). It fell into disrepair and while management has made some effort to improve course conditions in the last season, the course still has a lot of issues. The layout and challenge of the course is great, however even on the best days of weather it can be hard to find a ball that is just off the fairway (sometimes even a ball on the fairway). There are lots of weeds, dead patches of fairway, and if you hit a bad shot (or rather when), good luck finding your ball. The course is also expensive. With the condition the course is in I would expect lower prices, but they are one of the most expensive courses in the area. read more

The range and practice green area is actually quite nice, and so is the clubhouse. However, the course itself can use some maintenance in terms of greens conditions and weeds growing everywhere. When I played my round there I also found that the bunkers were in some trash condition, but since I'm never in bunkers, it wasn't a big deal. The courses layout has some potential, as it is interesting and difficult, but some course care is well needed. read more

Oh man, the greens at this place were terrible! It's been years since I have seen greens in this bad of shape on any course. They are half grass/half dirt and crab grass is growing on some of the greens. Pro said there were no pin placements because they had to put the pins in the best spot on each green. Let's just say it didn't help. Our group couldn't figure out the speed and everything was going off line. The practice putting green was a lot worse than on the course but I have no idea how they are charging people anything close to full price to play here. The course is a great layout. Starts with two tough holes. The first being a par 4 with a split fairway, the second being a dogleg left par 4 with water coming into play quickly. The course is hilly and uses the natural contours of the land nicely. Bunkering is also well places and there are a ton of doglegs and only a few blind tee shots. Definitely a strategic course. Fairways were in decent shape and it's Bermuda grass everywhere. That means in the rough the ball usually sits down so be careful coming out of it. The practice area, well at least the practice green, is absolutely horrible. The range itself is nice but you can only hit irons since the back of the range hits into the 18th fairway, and about half the range balls need to be replaced. I do love the layout but until they fix the greens this place isn't worth it. Also we played a shotgun tournament here early in the morning and they let a foursome tee off before us so we ended up waiting on every single hole. Workers here were also just driving right through our group without any regard to when we were trying to play a shot. read more

Nice place. Just don't step in the copious amounts of goose s**t! It's better now that the course is under new management. They claim it is as nice as when it first opened. I wouldn't say that. I played here a lot when she was new. This place is one of the better values in the area. Side note: they have a serious problem with the geese. They always have. There is goose poo everywhere. Time to invest in some geese chasing dogs or something. read more

I've played pretty much ever course in Northern Va this year and decided to venture down to Augustine GC for a Labor Day weekend round on a solo mission and was pleasantly surprised. Challenging and beautiful course. Great value for the money and staff was helpful and friendly. Will be bringing my regular golf crew back down here soon. read more

I've played here twice in the last 6 weeks and can say that this course offers great value. The entire course (fairways, greens, even bunkers) is in good-to-great condition and offers a fair challenge. The early June rain has been very good to this course; hopefully it can stay in great shape through the summer. Service is great. Our foursome had lunch at the clubhouse after our round and agreed it was good food. If you can find discounted rounds through golfnow, I highly recommend Augustine. It's only too bad that it's so far from DC (about 60 minutes). read more

Played again a year later but forgot to check current playing conditions prior to booking a tee time. That was a mistake. Greens were unputtable (not a real word but should be) for the most part. They were sandy, slow and beat up. One or two were OK. Fairways and tee boxes were shaggy, rough was fine but all needed to be mowed. On the plus side the course was pretty empty. :-) read more

Incredible course. Pristine fairways, challenging greens, excellent staff members, a beautiful pro shop. Everything you'd expect at a higher cost than what you actually have to pay. I feel like this club could bump up the greens fees and I'd still consider it a deal. Will definitely be returning. Course is deceptively challenging. You have a lot of wide open fairways but don't expect to shoot your personal best here because it will break you. There's far too much green reading needed and the course is anything but flat. As mentioned, lots of goose poop...but it didn't seem to be in any location that would overly alter your play. read more

Granted I paid via golfnow, and got a very good price, I thought the course was in pretty good shape. Anyone who went there a couple years ago, would know that it has actually improved quite a bit from how terrible it was. Its not the best course around, but for ~$30 I think its a great deal. The course is not terribly challenging, and the rough is usually easy to get out of. Some of the Tee Boxes and Fairways could use some work, but the greens are all in pretty good shape. I have played this course at least once a year sense 2007. It was a very nice course for the first couple years, and then it went down hill very fast til they sold it. Now they are trying to bring it back up again. Over the last couple years, it looks better every year. Give it another 3-5 years, and it will be back. read more

Augustine is a great golf venue -- some of the best holes in the great DC area -- hole is is the quintessential risk/reward hole -- or perhaps just more risk than anything else -- a real difficult hole that takes skill and a little luck. Hole 2 might be the signature hole, but it's the back 9 that really shines -- not a bad hole on the entire back nine -- and it's a beautiful course. read more

I have been a Fredericksburg native my entire life and play at FCC every weekend. I recently played here with a very good friend of mine and had an absolute blast. THe course was in great shape not counting a couple areas near the cart path or rocky hills. The layout was extremely fun, especially the split fairway on the first tee! I did not find the course very challenging (shot 72 with two double bogies), but that would not stop me from playing there again. overall 4/5 stars. read more

This place has seen much better days. You can tell this course once played host to a lot of good memories, but no more for now at least... It's a good layout, and you can tell someone put some thought into fashioning an experience, but with course conditions in serious disrepair, I'm not sure it's worth the drive to Stafford from start points inside the beltway. You see a lot of "Golf Digest Best Places to Play 2003, 2005, 2006" stickers on the doors, but you don't see any for the recent past. Very telling. It feels like a course owned by someone that doesn't want to own a golf course, spending the bare bones minimum on upkeep. read more

My fiancé at the time and father loved the course when they played complimentary for our wedding. We had our ceremony and reception at Augustine and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! Pretty nice layout in a beautiful, northern Virginia woodlands setting. Unfortunately, the course was not in great shape when we played on October 12. The fairways were bare in a number of spots and the greens were shaggy and scarred. I realize we're approaching the end of the season, but it looks like the superintendent made the decision to shut things down a few weeks ago. read more

TEN STARS. My 2017 family reunion was in Dale City, Virginia. (Every year, family members drive or fly in from several cities to meet in a selected host city for the reunion.) My cousins, brother, his wife and I like to play golf. We chose Augustine for our outing. We spent quality family time together. We had a great time despite the rain and wind. The night before, there was a downpour in Dale City, and we were not sure we'd be able to play. However, Augustine was open and ready for business at 6:55 a.m. The course was lovely. The staff was helpful and accommodating in every way. I have kept Augustine in my records anticipating a future return visit. A tremendous thank you to the Augustine staff. Horrible condition. All fringe completely burned out. Dead grass and dirt on all tee-boxes. Sand traps have hardened layer below inch of sand. Most greens damaged and/or burned out. Claim they recently "renovated" the course. All I could tell that was different after not playing here for several years was that they cut down a bunch of trees, turning once "private" holes into a typical course where you can see the holes going the other way. And they didn't bother to remove the tree stumps. Looks horrible. Removed all red-staked hazards to speed play, lost aesthetic charm. Typical cheap-play golf course with absolutely no rough to speak of and no fringe on fairways. Just a massive expanse of green "grass", can't even tell where fairways are supposed to be. Cart damage on all holes, golfers driving carts in all sorts of areas they shouldn't be. I think Augustine is on its last legs. Don't bother. read more

Great track! The greens are awesome, not fast but the roll is true and they are tough to read sometimes. A reachable par 4 on the back nine, a beautiful semi long par three with water in play and the pin tucked behind a bunker(usually) and a great finishing hole. All these things add up to a fun outing and they really do the full service stuff that you don't see everywhere like bringing you a cart when you pull up in your car, free range balls, clubs cleaned while you putt on 18 and a cart girl at 9am on a weekday! 100% better than the course I liked a few years ago. Green were perfect, all other conditions excellent. Staff, food, price worth every cent of the reasonable rate. The course is now one of the must plays in the I-95 corridor. read more

The Raspberry Falls management team has taken over the course and performed a major facelift. Good news first...the awfully rude attitude of the previous staff is gone. Also, the new greens are in great shape. Bad news is the fairways still need a lot of maturing and are quite thin throughout the course. Once the fairways mature the course should return to its former place as one of the better courses in the area. read more

This review is for the restaurant only. I went last night to hear a band at the restaurant - lots of people there so it was very busy. It seemed there was only one waitress for the whole place - she seemed (understandably) overwhelmed and unable to keep up with all the tables. We ordered our food and when after one hour it still hadn't arrived I tracked down the waitress and asked for my credit card back as we were ready to leave. Other people who had ordered well after us had already received their food and were finished eating. Very disappointing experience for us. read more

Course is in terrible shape. I have played it twice this year and wont be back. Earlier this year the fairways were still dormant. I figured waiting until June the fairways and rough would be grown in."They arent". Several tees are closed due to no grass. dont waste $79 on weekends to play this course.
