They had a lot of different types of premium paints including oil paint, acrylic paint and watercolor paint, and others. Also many different types of premium and economy paintbrushes many varieties and brands. And the owner came and helped me. She was explaining to me all the different paintbrushes, and I felt so happy that she cared that much to help me find what I was looking for. They also have pan pastels which you don't find in stores very much And a really big selection. Also different types of water colors. They had pigment powders, gold leaf, alcohol inks, markers section, clays . They also had a nice selection of canvases with different sizes. So one of the reasons I came because I heard they gave classes here, which is very exciting, you can definitely tell this is a place where the community comes and talks about art and enjoys other artist company. Because everybody that worked there was so helpful and friendly and very warm and welcoming. I'll definitely come back again when I'm in the area!

The owner can take the most ordinary picture and with the right materials. colors and frame make it outstanding. I have had many pictures framed here and am very pleased with what he can do. I visited this local frame shop hoping to create a meaningful shadow box for my 10-year-old daughter, who recently earned her black belt. I brought in a gold leaf certificate, a signed board she broke during testing, and her embroidered belt--items that clearly carry significant personal value. I was looking for guidance from someone presenting themselves as a framing expert. Unfortunately, the interaction fell well short of that expectation. From the outset, the level of engagement was minimal. A single sample was placed on the counter with the comment, "this is what you get," without any effort to explore design options or understand the significance of the project. When I asked for input on matting, the recommendation was simply "white," without any discussion of contrast or presentation. When I raised a reasonable concern about the certificate being washed out, the response was dismissive rather than collaborative. Basic elements of the project--such as layout of the belt--were initially described as not feasible, until I suggested alternatives myself. At that point, it was acknowledged as possible, which raised further concerns about the depth of expertise being applied. More concerning was the lack of attention to fundamental details. There was no discussion of glass options, pricing, or timeline during the initial consultation. When I returned shortly after to clarify these essential points and expressed my disappointment in the lack of guidance, the conversation was abruptly ended with, "we're done," and I was told to take the project elsewhere. For a business positioning itself as a professional framing service, this level of communication and customer interaction is difficult to reconcile. I ultimately took the project to Hobby Lobby, where the experience was markedly different--thoughtful recommendations were offered, options were clearly explained, and pricing and timeline were provided upfront. I value supporting local businesses, but professionalism, collaboration, and basic customer respect are non-negotiable. Based on this experience, I won't be returning.

I found this gem in Village of the Arts in Bradenton, FL while exploring the village!…read more Owner, Mark Gagnon, was so welcoming! He moved to the Bradenton, FL area from Massachusetts about 7-8 years ago and opened up Monark (with his wife Monica... Monica and Mark = Monark) to showcase his art and custom framing along with a gallery to showcase and sell other artists' beautiful works. I purposely don't take many close-up photos of people's artwork because I know it's special but Mark gladly let me take a few pics around the gallery so those of you who see this review can get an idea of the beautiful space and offerings. Mark creates most of the abstract paintings and showed us one that he said was one of the few good things to come out of the pandemic. He has created an amazing, abstract painting of sparkling color on black represents a city of lights. I believe abstract is so wonderful because it's meaning and what you see can be very subjective to the person viewing it but this piece is terrific and I think I could look at it over and over and find something new each time! Another piece he did with golds and aquas which you can see on the wall in one of my photos, is so beautiful. I immediately saw a bird in part of the painting and felt a burst of joy from the beautiful colors. Mark also does custom framing and in one of my photos you can see some of the selection of frames. He explained how he has been framing for many years in Massachusetts and when he moved here and opened his business, he realized quickly that he needed to add brighter colors to his available frames for his Florida clientele. I was immediately drawn to some of the bright-colored frames and already plan to have a favorite print framed in one. Monark gallery also showcases quite a few other artists in the community. There are amazing prints, jewelry, woodwork, floral arrangements, silks, and more! My friend with me has been searching for the right tables for her house and found 2 at the gallery. Mark also delivers for a really reasonable fee if you buy a bigger piece of art and need help getting it to your space. His regular hours are limited but you can visit by appointment on many days the shop is not open for regular hours. You can also visit during the Village of the Arts monthly Art Walk which happens on the first Friday and Saturday. Mark also took the time to give us some suggestions for other places to visit and restaurants to try. He let me know about the Jazz Festival in Bradenton after I commented on a print of a jazz artist he had framed. Don't miss checking out this charming gallery and framing studio to support a local artists and business owner!
