While there are only swings here ( marked down by a previous viewer for this reason) there is lots of grassy area for kids to run around far away from the cliffs. Be aware, there are no guardrails at the viewing point... so watch kiddos closely . Enjoy the views of the Minnesota bluffs across the water as you gaze upon the Mississippi river down below and the Alma dam to your right ! You might get lucky and see a barge coming through. There is a steep hiking trail @ the north end of 2nd St in Alma to start your way up. Otherwise, you drive up from the far South end of town. Well marked. Don't miss this "beautiful view"!

Dakota Woods is an all around good off-leash dog park. It's about 40 acres in size with half being wooded and the remainder a combination of mowed grass and some taller grass (there are no ponds or lakes to worry about). Paths cut through the woods that are great for walking with or without your furry companion. The only downside to this park is it's quite close to a landfill which can add a bit of an unpleasant aroma to the air. I've never found it to be that bad, but those with sensitive noses should take note. We've found the people and their dogs to be friendly. If you're looking for a spot to take your dog this is it!

The parking is spacious and takes you down a dirt hill path with great signage so that you understand you are going to the right location. There is one big gate entry and right now during the winter please be very careful as the hill to walk down is slippery and icy. I enjoyed it here as it wasn't muddy and there were a lot of other dogs allowing for a playful experience. The larger area is heavily wooded with deciduous trees with about an acre to roam and run. The other section is long and narrow and much smaller, yet enough room to play fetch and run around especially for smaller dogs. There is a large parking lot extending from the dog park past the water tower and down to a playground. The few times we have been here it has been quiet with only us there or one or two others. It's kept fairly clean and appears to be a work in progress with brushing, tree trimming and etc to keep up, but overall is very adequate to meet our needs as we begin to train our new dog.

The falls at this park are beautiful!…read more It's a short hike from the parking area ($5 fee to park) to the falls. The trails aren't labeled, but I believe most of them lead to the falls. With the water so high this year, you can hear the falls from the parking lot, so you can literally follow the sound. The trails are unpaved, and not flat and easy. We didn't find many hiking trails other than what led to the falls, but we were on the south side, so perhaps there are more on the north side?
