I spot Hop & Bottle. I spot the bottles in the window; craft beer after craft beer; a Tempest brew…read moreI'd never tried and some interesting looking offerings from breweries I'd yet to come by. My face is resembling the love-hearts-for-eyes emoji and I haven't even set foot inside. You see, Berwick is great for many, many things. It's a beautiful place and one I've visited on countless occasions. But, as far as beer goes, it's a real ale in real old pubs kind of place and there's no shame in that! So imagine my delight when we discover the warm and beardy Ray and his shop of beery wonders. It's time for a shake up in Berwick in the shape of this unashamedly hipster craft beer and vinyl haunt. (Bring Your Own Vinyl is the last Wednesday of every month from 5pm. - You're welcome!) H & B ticks all the boxes. You can sit in and have a beer. There's radlers on offer for the lightweights - myself included! - and kombucha if you're so inclined. (Left Field kombucha, mmm!) Oh, and there's gin too! You can buy any beer to take away. Dogs are very much welcome. There's a guitar if the mood calls for it and chat if you fancy it. If not, sit back, relax and enjoy your brew! Tell Ray what you like and he'll steer you in the right direction. - He's oozing with passion for beer, his business and local brews. We loved everything we tried and can't wait to come back. The difficulty is having just one, especially so because you're in damn good company. I visited with my boyfriend and his 97 year old grandad and, before we knew it, hours had passed and we'd got swept up in good beer, good chat and all-round good vibes. An awesome little spot in the borders if you're a craft beer lover!

Mackays Frys - The best fish and chips in the world - not that I'm biased.

I've been coming to Mackay's Fry's for a very long time, I grew up in Coldingham which is 3 miles…read moreup the coast from Eyemouth. Despite there being a perfectly ok chip shop literally across the road from our house it was always worth jumping in the car to get a proper fish supper from Mackays. When I was living at home the shop was further along the high street but this location (the old Co-op) is perfect for a fish and chip shop and cafe. The take away counter faces the high street and in the back heading out to the sea wall is the cafe. They even have picnic tables looking out over the sea with parasols to save you from seagulls diving bombing your chips. You can always spot a tourist by the nonchalant way they assume they can eat their chips walking along the sea wall, locals know this is the fastest way to loose your chips and risk being pooed on! Anyone who has been there will tell you that a present from a seagull is not lucky, they are massive birds with a fish based diet. Just sit under the umbrellas please! G and I had abandoned the girls with my mum and were working on the rule that calories consumed more than 50 miles from your home address really don't count so both ordered fish suppers to go. We sat at the picnic tables laughing at the tourists fending off seagull attacks and tucked into the best fish and chips ever. The chips are perfect mainly chunky, light and fluffy but with just enough wee crispy ones mixed through to keep everyone happy. But the reason you come to a fishing town to eat fish and chips isn't the chips! The fish here is spectacular. Fresh, meaty, flaky perfection encased in the most spectacularly crisp gold batter. I'm salivating just typing this. They make their own ice-cream and I have only ever heard really good things about it, am pretty sure it wins awards. But I just come for fish and chips. The only downside is that it ruins you so that no other fish supper will ever satisfy again, to be honest I'd still do it.
