I was annoyed to learn that despite the dinner rush, only two waitresses were working. I know staffing can be difficult, but that's fairly unacceptable for a restaurant of that size. However, our waitress did a great job considering she had to cover half the dining room herself. The bread service was very nice. There were three types of thick breads and all were good. I had an Aperol spritz and it was refreshing and well made. We shared an order of calamari and it was crisp and tender. For my entree, I got the bavette steak, which came with pomme frites and a delicious shallot sauce that resembled a gravy. My steak was a perfect medium rare and I loved the sauce. For dessert, we split an apple tartan which was nice, but simple. Overall, this is a great spot. The food was amazing. I just hope they can improve their staffing in the future.

It was with matching wines and had a reasonable price. The restaurant had hired a singer for the evening. She was more out or tune and in-tune, so at times a bit painful. I felt sorry for her. The food was a lobster terrine or duck/fig terrine. The lobster was overcooked and chewy. The duck was good. For the next course, we both had the tortellini stuffed with crab meat in a lobster consommé. The lobster consommé was delicious, but the tortellini was not fresh as the pasta had become rigid. We then had beef filet or fowl. Both were delicious courses. After a while, we got cheeses with crackers. The cheeses were good, but the crackers were very dry. Finally, we had tiramisu and raspberry cake. Both the desserts were good. The wines were poured very generously, but were of medium quality. The service was slow and in-attentive. The 6-course meal took 3.5 hours. People around us were getting quite impatient. As this was a pre-fix menu, it should have been easy to orchestrate, but I think they got overwhelmed.

A visit to Edwin's has become an almost weekly occurrence…read more The restaurant is located just about Borough station, and it's quite easy to miss - just a little blue door nestled between the station and the next café over. Follow the stairs up and you'll find a bright and charming room filled with eclectic but modern furnishings. It's always got such a nice atmosphere, but it's never rammed (although I'd strongly recommend making a reservation to avoid disappointment). I always describe Edwin's as 'new English', which has fast become one of my favourite cuisines - traditional dishes and ingredients, but presented in a contemporary and interesting way. I highly recommend getting a few of the small plates to share - they are all so delicious, and I love getting to try a little bit of everything. I've been about five or six times now, but only ever during the week, but everything I have tried on the weekday lunch menu has been absolutely fantastic. My favourite small plates include the purple sprouting broccoli, which is topped with duck egg, cobnut and beurre noisette. The combination of flavours with the duck egg and the hazelnuts is really incredible, and is definitely a dish I get every time. The rabbit with spinach polenta, which is served with a little parmesan is also lovely, but the wood pigeon with Jerusalem artichoke, mushroom and port is the real star of the small plates. It's absolutely incredible, and while you might have to keep an eye out for shot, it's really not a dish to be missed. The roasted plaice with salsify, fennel, Pernod and mussel sauce is also delicious, and the oxtail stew that I've had previously is so comforting. The stew is served with garlic mash, and the sauce is heavenly - if you don't mind a bit of a fiddly dish, then I'd really recommend you try it. The only downside for me is that the desserts all seem to be flour-based, so I haven't managed to try any, but given that I'm not one for desserts anyway it's not too much of a problem for me at all! Edwin's is perfect for client lunches, or lunch with friends - it's got such an intimate, quiet and lovely atmosphere, so if you're ever in the London Bridge area I wholeheartedly recommend you check it out.

It's located to the left of Trinity pub, a few footsteps from Borough Tube station It's nicely decorated, with perhaps a classy Victorian parlour feel to it. The staff were superb, looking after us well throughout the evening adn coming up with special touches of champagne for our birthday girl The menu is well written and the staff have obviously tasted the food, coming up with personal favourites to recommend. I really can't understand restaurants where their front of house staff have no idea about the food they're serving The starters/small plates section was more experimental than the mains. As there were 7 of us, we ordered all 8 small plates! My personal favourites were the scallops deep fried in filo pastry served with a piquant harissa mayo and a rich rabbit. I was impressed how the restaurant was so keen for constructive feedback, giving us all feedback forms to fill in at the end of the mail. So, in this spirit, could I suggest that the beef tartare be given more a kick to enhance the quality beef and the polenta needs a rethink I went with the venison, which had good flavour but was overcooked on the outside, leading to the 2 end pieces being very chewy. This was similar with the steak but I think some adjustment on cooking times should solve it My friends also said they would prefer the bearnaise sauce to be served warmer. The bouillabaiise had good flavour but the soup needed to be more plentiful and less concentrated. Sides included lovely new potatoes and chips Desserts included a perfectly chocolatey fondant with gooey middle The prices were very reasonable and if tyhey iron out a few things from this soft opening, this will become a favourite with the group

A hidden French delight, just off Bermondsey street…read more Tucked at the back of some tennis courts in a public park, I wouldn't have known this place even existed were it not for a cryptic business card from its nearby sister restaurant (Casse-Croûte). Here, there is none of the intimacy that you get at Casse-Croûte but it somehow still feels personal and cozy. A seasonal menu is presented for lunch and dinner, with a selection of starters bolstered by several solid mains. No specials were on offer, so presumably the menu stays as is for a few months. Each main was intended for two, but such generous portions meant that this solo diner had to choose a couple of starters. The onion soup was a delicious, less filling twist on the classic version with a cheesy foam on top and a sablé to accompany, rather than the standard heavy croûte. The black pudding scotch egg was actually comprised of boudin noir, not black pudding which gave it a softer almost pasty interior that sat nicely in contrast to the crisp crumbed exterior. The enclosed egg was runny soft and rich. The sweet and earthy purée that the egg sat on complemented it well, though I found the scattered pickled chanterelles to be too sharp and acidic to work with the other ingredients. Some fragrant eau de vie de poire kept me going until the blueberry soufflé arrived with a dollop of rich pistachio ice cream. Overall: I'd go back, with my wife, to be able to unlock more of the menu. Pricey, but worth it if you want to eat something special whilst feeling comfortable.

My wife and I chose this place for our last dinner in London before heading back home to DFW. I had…read moreread about this restaurant in some top 10 lists for foodies visiting London and was dying to check it out. First, it's not in the busy part of London where you would expect a restaurant of this caliber to be but rather it is in a very blue-collar neighborhood on the south side of London. It is a VERY cozy place with only seven tables but that is how they keep the quality and experience so great. The decor is as if you are on an old fishing ship. Reservations are highly recommended but we got there right when they opened (7pm) and thankfully they let us have a table. After being seated the hostess showed us the days specials and they ranged from fantastic scallops to lobster with every choice as good as the last. My wife and I chose the Chef's Choice 8 course dinner. The dinner comprised of a delicious sardine sandwich followed by a fillet of night perch which was then followed by lobster that melted in your mouth. Then we had a pallet cleanser of a light peach sorbet with a shot of vodka poured over it. The meal resumed with a grilled piece of pork belly (I got the "meat" choice) while my wife had a grilled hallibut (she got the "fish" choice). The next course was a warmed cheese (I believe it was gruyere) in pastry accompanied by a small mixed green salad with aged balsamic. The dessert courses were a delicious crepe with creme bruille filling and the end course was a pear puree along with a chocolate pudding with a hint of mint. We loved this place even though the name sort of threw us off at first. When you hear "The Lobster Pot" I imagine a bunch of seniors getting off a day-tour bus to a casino at a truck stop or something but this experience was far from what I first imagined. I would highly recommend spending some of your tourist dollars here at this restaurant.

A delightfully decorative place complete with seagulls singing sea shanty classics on loop. Terrified but glorious goldfish adorning the cabin window walls, really every maritime detail had been thought of, even staff in cabin costumes, it was as cheesy as the lobster Thermidor. So fun. I loved being bibbed up too, I like knowing things are gonna get messy. The Meli, a melee of seafood; half lobster, sea bass, spicy grilled perch, razor clam (touch over done), squid kebab (could've been flavoured more) but all in a sea of buttery champagne and avruga sauce. No tide could hold me back from wanting to lick my plate or use this as a moisturiser, oh my golly so delicious. It came served with enough perfectly cooked veg that my mother would approve of too. Soft butter, less surprise from the proprietor at our arrival and this place would have had a perfect score. Overall our waitress was lovely and the food was really darn good.
