In recent years Paris has seen an flowering of Asian restaurants beyond the traditional Chinese and Japanese establishments. Naturally there are many Vietnamese establishments too.
A small and unassuming place from the outside, Au Vietnam offers diners a window into
some really delicious Vietnamese cuisine set amid a cute but often cramped decor. Having eaten here on a few occasions, its nice to see this essentially neighborhood place serving a local and loyal clientele which at first glance makes the place seem pretty busy. Yet there's usually a table for two or three.
We have had the traditional Vietnamese Pho soup which is amazing with fresh ingredients and worth the visit in itself.
While there are a number of combination dishes, we've focused on specialities such as a caramelized pork and beef dishes. Naturally a good assortment of Southeast Asian beers at reasonable prices are best to accompany the often spicy food. Having Pho soup with another specialty is a big meal in itself and can be done separately. Yes, and as is the tradition in most of European Asian restaurants, you pay extra for the rice!
Prices are reasonable, staff is courteous but sometimes overwhelmed. Still Au Vietnam is a great place (not far from the famous Rue Mouffetard) which is both authentic and relaxed. read more
