Location:
Ok... Locations hard to beat... Dijon, France- great wine, great scenery, even better ppl. This place is in a square with tables pouring into the walkways offering tons of traditional France food. The inside lower lvl has a table or two, but most seating is outside or upstairs. Once again, this is France so make sure to raise up your hand for service; the staff is slammed busy and has no time to just stop by and check on you.
Food:
This round in Dijon we did dinner. beef bourguignon with potatoes & veggies, along with a white fish and rice plate, and foie gras. The bourguignon was done with burgundy wine from Beaune, and really had a great taste to it. The potatoes were done well and veggies.... Well yeah, if u mess that up u have issues so yeah. The fish was ok, but a touch dry- so nothing special there... The foie gras on the other hand was fantastic :) I would recommend it as long as u skip the slices of white bread they serve with it (Eeww. Seriously?! This is France ppl! Skip the white bread!!) and use the table baguette they serve instead. As for the wine, the list is never-ending. We prefer to choose house while traveling to see what they offer with the belief that their house wine defines their dedication to good service to their customers. Crappy house wine usually means crappy food- in this case their house wine is based on the region u want- cote de nuits or cote de Beaune. We did Beaune and it was good (not great... Prob not even village lvl), and overpriced expensive....
Presentation:
The food came out looking home made to be honest. Nothing fancy for garnish, just simple and clean on white plates. (Sometimes this is exactly what ppl want so no +\-there.)
Service:
The service is quick and snappy.... As long as u ask for it. If u pull the typical American piece of waiting,... U WILL WAIT TILL THEY CLOSE. Like I said earlier, they move fast here- no time for eyeballing tables. If u want anything, raise a hand, grab a waiter, or say "excuse me!!" They will then serve u with the utmost speed and accuracy.
Atmosphere:
The atmosphere is awesome in the regard that it is in an open busy square with tons of things going on around you. The outside area does have a canopy so u can avoid quick spring showers and still enjoy your food & wine.
My Final Opinion:
It was ok. The atmosphere and location really hold the place up tho to be honest. The wine is pricey. I can Prob go around the corner to Monoprix and get the same bottle for 3€. The beef did have an amazingly good sauce which made me think they were saving the good wines for cooking (that's great from a food perspective). The fish? Eh- Id avoid it. Stick to what they are good at, like the snails from burgundy, foie gras, the beef. Don't venture outside their zone or u may be disappointed. read more
