It's wine country, so this is to be expected. What really makes it worth visiting is the friendly service, the local atmosphere, and the absolutely fantastic view. Most of the rivers-side spaces in the towns near St. Emilion are occupied by quite high-end restaurants. But la Marine has a fantastic enclosed patio that gives a broad, uniterrupted panorama of the Dordogne. It is truly breathtaking. The proprietors will give you a warm welcome, and it's a fine place to bring a large group. There are pool and foosball tables for entertainment, though a local will be happy to chat you up as well, if you want. We didn't get a chance to try the food, but it looked quite tasty from where I sat. One word of warning, they tend to close on the early side (9-10pm), so don't plan a late-night there. Sunset is the perfect time to enjoy a nice glass of vin rouge and a bottle of Pelforth brun (which set us back a whopping four euros total!).

I had the omelette with mushrooms which came with a side of fries. They cook using local products and both items were very good. Had a coffee to finish off the meal. All the meals that are served are large for lunch portions, so bring a healthy appetite.

The Cassoulet was VERY hot and extremely flavorful. Plenty of food for a meal and a GREAT value ! Even the bread was a surprise ND a great aid to to doing final cleanup of the juices. All and all, a great meal for a bargain price!

I had my usual scotch, which was a very nice pour and my wife had a white wine. Both very nice. Our waiter, Teophane, was very friendly and casual. My attempts at French amused him. He suggested both calamari and razor clams as appetizers. Both were fantastic! Then for dinner, my wife had an amazing burger with fries -- just what she had been missing after a week in France! I had hake-- fish-- just great. After dinner, the owner treated us to a local brandy infused in-house with vanilla and caramel. Our waiter shared a glass with us. An absolutely wonderful touch!
