Featuring oversized, colorful menus with mammoths on the front page, and similarly obnoxious place mats advertising something or other, we knew what to expect from this one; we went anyway because we needed the toilet facilities after a long drive on a hot day. I ordered a pizza with chorizo and creme fraiche, a large beer, and a bottle of water. The server mistakenly brought the pizza with chorizo and tomato sauce. About all that can be said for it was that the crust was freshly baked; otherwise, it was all but flavorless and compared poorly to what could be had for significantly less from the small cafe at the airport. The "grande" bière consisted of a warm, hastily poured (from a bottle) lager that was surprisingly small and 1/3 head. The water did what it was supposed to do. The staff were not the worst, though it took a very long time before they even took our drink order. When this finally arrived, I noticed that it came via the entrance from another restaurant; I later saw the same fellow who brought the drinks adjusting umbrellas at a neighboring creperie. The entire plaza appears to be owned by the same company, whose business model seems to be predicated on catching unsuspecting inbound tourists and taking them for all they're worth. In fact, I was going to award Le Croq Magnon a "2" (the plaza itself is a nice enough spot) until I saw the bill: €28! My beer alone set me back an egregious €10. Clearly this place thrives on the fact that the vast majority of its customer base is non-local and will not return. Tired tourists would do well to give this one a pass in favor of something more reasonable and palatable further toward the center of town.
