When in France, do as spanish do!…read more During our trip to Bordeaux we met this recently opened restaurant, there is a shop and a restaurant one next to each other. We first went to the shop and bought some charcuterie, in particular a mixed plate for raclette and some patanegra (not enough unfortunately!). Sausage and ham were just great, but patanegra was WOOOO! mind blowing! The restaurant, well it was a bit awkward at first, we got in and... nobody was there! well.. ok! We just sat down and waited a bit, and a guy finally showed up at the counter. We ordered the special mix menu, including charcuterie, tapas and a hot dish. We already knew charcuterie would have been awesome. as we already tried it at the shop, and we were not disappointed, not at all! and tapas, oh my god tapas! I did not remember last time I ate tapas so tasteful! nothing fancy, plaid tapas (like bell peppers and squid), as I expected from a place like this, and it was awesome! Suggested suggested suggested, nice place, nice food, nice wines! A nice pause from french cuisine with an excursion to the land of bulls!

Came here with my family for our last meal in Toulouse. Based on the yelp reviews we were excited…read moreto try some local tapas. We were able to get a 7:30 reservation for 4 without any problem on a Sunday night. This restaurant gets two stars for the following reasons: 1. ham croquettes. Frozen on the inside and definitely not fresh which we found to be extremely disturbing. We were charged for them despite the fact that we sent them back. (they did bring us some "hot" ones which were likely just cooked in the microwave). 2. calamari. breaded beyond recognition and when we tried to eat it the stringy calamari just sort of fell out of the fried breaded stuff... needless to say we did not finish that small plate. 3. Gambas in chorizo sauce. the sauce was incredibly thick and had an odd taste and smell. the shrimp were completely submerged in this sauce and probably over 1000 calories. Besides this, the Patatas bravas were the only thing keeping us from walking out the door. sangria was fine, the service was fine and the ambiance was nice.

Great crowd and it was fun to sit at the bar to watch the owner carve the ham. They have full ham sides hanging at the side of the bar - very cool. We had a variety of tapas - baked garlic shrimp, potato fritters, Spanish ham, grilled calamari and a red pepper stuffed bread. It was all nicely done but the ham was outstanding. My friend said it is made from Spanish pigs that are fed fruit and free range. It was tender and slightly sweet - paired nicely with the pepper bread. We had a nice bottle of Spanish red wine which had a nice complexity despite being a 2011 vintage. I haven't been to other tapas bars in Toulouse for comparison but for the fun and food I can certainly recommend this one.

¡English & castellano! (sitio:…read morehttps://es-es.facebook.com/pages/Los-Toneles-Bar-Parrilla-Burgos/452326294861099) Right next to the Cathedral lies this fantastic tapas bar. We walked in and many locals were choosing from the many tapas available: skewers of meat and seafood, and small plates of cheeses. Lots of people ordered wines and beers too. My friends and I ordered a variety of the tapas (all of them under €2!) such as the pork skewer, lamb skewer, patatas bravas, and the torrezno, which is thick bacon crackling - SO GOOD! A few of us, as we were pilgrims, ordered a pilgrim meal. Mine came with a big salad, grilled tuna, and a dessert of local cheese topped with honey. All excellent. Our waitress was very patient with all of us deciding what we wanted and occasionally ordering more food from the bar itself. Our drinks came out quickly and the tapas as soon as they were ready. Most of the tapas at the bar were presented raw, which they then grilled when you ordered so it would be served fresh and hot! I don't know when I'll be back in Burgos, but if I do, I will definitely come back here! Highly recommended!
