What a joke. Do not use this company in Austin or Houston!…read more After a recent storm I contacted Advantage Roofing, who came recommended by a friend, for a quote. Donald showed up at my house the same day and inspected the roof. He told me to contact my insurance company and let him know the date and time the adjuster would come out. So when I called him to confirm he would be available, he informed me that he's no longer working in Austin. Hmmnnn....he didn't know that 3 days earlier! Really??? Now I have to find another roof contractor and call my insurance back and look like the crazy one! Shady...just shady.

When they replaced the trim on my house, I asked them to paint the new piece before they installed it. They didn't do that, and they got paint on my stucco. Very sloppy. After fixing that, they replaced a few boards on my fence and stained the whole enclosure. They didn't use a drop cloth, and they spilled sealant/stain all over my basalt. When I pointed it out to them, they said it would "wash off." Um no, it won't. It's designed not to. A few of the boards they installed also had holes in them and need to be replaced again. They said they'd come back and fix everything, but they never came back and now they're ghosting me. Go figure. So unless you have a job that requires little to no skill, look elsewhere.

I do not leave negative reviews lightly, but this experience warrants transparency…read more I contacted Ryan through Thumbtack for a clearly defined virtual design walk-through in support of a client project. In my initial outreach, I explicitly stated that this was a virtual consultation and outlined the scope in detail. Ryan responded that he could handle the work and was interested. We confirmed logistics multiple times, including the evening before and again the morning of the appointment. My client rearranged her schedule, and I rearranged mine to coordinate a live virtual walkthrough at the property. Ryan did not arrive at the agreed-upon time. After the scheduled time passed, I called -- no answer. I sent a message asking him to confirm arrival -- no response. Two and a half hours later, he sent a message stating he had been "warned to stay away from these types of jobs" and apologized. There was no prior indication of hesitation, concern, or limitation in scope. If he was unwilling or uncomfortable with the nature of the job, that should have been communicated before confirming and causing both myself and my client to restructure our day. Reliability and communication are non-negotiable in client-facing industries. Unfortunately, this experience demonstrated neither. I cannot recommend based on this interaction. ***Update*** *Ryan attempted to dodge accountability by replying on Thumbtack that he was not given a clear scope. Please see the attached scope as well as his attempt to text me to explain himself. This is a pattern for Ryan. Please pay attention to the other negative reviews.

Melde Construction company's motto "Love your home. Enjoy the journey" is nothing but a facade…read moreafter the experience our family endured from May 2022 to December 2025. The quaint white building on 6th street, showcasing yearly "Austin Best Builder" signs with owner and employees who wear black tee shirts that say "Humility & Curiosity & Diligence & Confidence" is simply not at all what we experienced. We recently settled a six-figure lawsuit against Melde Construction, (new owner) Bernie Calcote, its former COO Nic Bell, its former Project Manager Jesse Marsh and several subcontractors. Mr. Calcote and Mr. Bell were never deposed under oath after much legal maneuvering and boxes of evidence and hours of witness testimony are not easily accessed publicly. Therefore, we feel an obligation to warn other potential clients about key facts before possibly hiring Melde construction or any of the people involved. Melde: 1) did not keep the project notebook required by the contract that would facilitate us to see invoices for labor & materials 2) used incorrect building materials 3) did not follow architectural plans 4) charged us for work they never ultimately performed 5) made errors that could have caused catastrophic fire and/or carbon monoxide poisoning 6) repeatedly lied by omission about water intrusions in the house while family lived elsewhere If this was simply a situation of a construction project that took too long and went over budget, or if Melde had taken responsibility, we would not be voicing our concerns publicly. Melde blamed the homeowners and refused to be accountable for its actions. Homeowners are still trying to solve Melde's errors, among the most egregious issues: -concealed water damage to original hardwood floors after failing to protect home during at least two storms (fall 2022) -installed incorrect furnace in attic that would have caused fire if activated -charged for an electrical service upgrade that did not occur -installed brick type we did not order, had workman chisel to look weathered instead of ordering weathered brick -placed new HVAC condensers without discussing placement -painted over damage to the ceiling in the garage (garage was not within project scope) -installed doors & handles on the addition that don't match existing doors & handles which are directly adjacent to addition -charged DOUBLE original quote for metal handrails then did not paint with direct to metal acrylic enamel -did not honor warranty for windows, left project with multiple hardware, latches and weather strips missing Before entering into contract with Melde Construction (Bernie Calcote bought business from Leon Melde in July 2016), feel free to contact us for more explanation and details. There are many credible construction companies in Central Texas. We highly recommend considering our feedback before choosing this one.

These guys are awesome. My wife and I put an offer on buying a home in south Austin, only to find…read morethat our lender wanted the two-story covered balcony replaced before we closed. It was completely rotted out and was a safety hazard. Out of the four contractors I called, Melde was the only one who responded right away. Two of the other companies told me the balcony was beyond the scope of their abilities. As for Melde, I knew they did home renovations, so I wasn't sure if our balcony was a job they'd do. Nick was able to come out within a day or two to give us a quote, and he assured me that they could do high-end renovations, build a dog-house, and everything in between (including the balcony). They were able to start the job the following Monday. They finished on time and under the original estimate. I was very pleased with the work. I'll definitely do business with them again.

Hired this contractor to install a driveway and dual RV concrete slab. Within less than two months,…read morethe newly poured concrete developed multiple cracks across both areas. I understand hairline and shrinkage cracks are normal, but not where I have to pay someone to fix the cracks as they continue to grow, concrete chipping, flaking or breaking away and damage appearing within weeks or months in multiple areas. The contractor did respond and came out to inspect after numerous text messages and months later; however, they refused to accept responsibility and declined to repair or replace the cracked concrete. No resolution was offered. During removal of the old concrete, small sections of the existing slab were damaged. These areas were filled in improperly rather than repaired correctly. The patch material has since loosened and is now missing, leaving exposed and deteriorated areas. Additionally, a copper drainpipe exiting my garage was damaged during demolition and has not been acknowledged or repaired. Their website states they are "Licensed and Insured" When I asked for proof of insurance, she has refused on numerous attempts, so I am assuming they are not insured. No license found. Based on premature cracking, improper patching, unresolved property damage, and refusal to stand behind the work after inspection, I would not recommend this contractor. More photos and documentation are available. Their response: For the sake of accuracy, we worked directly with Diana Jones on this project. We are a fully insured company; however, Diana explicitly requested a cash price and chose to decline the insurance coverage and standard contract fees to reduce her costs. Regarding the property damage, those were pre-existing conditions of the old slab that we did our best to bridge during the new pour. We also inspected the hairline cracks, which are standard for new concrete, and found them to be within normal range. Since our communication has been with Diana, we would be happy to speak with her directly at 512-228-1758 to clear up any misunderstandings 5/27/2026 My response back: Payment method or pricing arrangements do not eliminate a contractor's responsibility to perform quality work or repair property damage caused during the project. We did not discuss insurance at any point prior to the construction of the concrete. Again, I would not recommend this company. I did pay by check also.

Very good, high quality, attention to detail.... Scott at Barton Roofing replaced my roof and did…read morea fantastic job. But beyond simply installing a new roof, Scott went the extra mile to ensure the job was done right. I had some work done on my chimney by another contractor at the same time as the roof replacement and Scott showed up at my house one day with sealant for my new chimney cap and climbed up on the roof and applied it ... at no charge. He just realized it was something I needed to have done and he showed up and took care of it. Keep in mind, he has a crew that actually does the work on the roof and he doesn't normally do the work himself (other than being a runner to get the occasional additional supplies) but he has no problem getting his hands dirty, climbing up on the roof and doing whatever is necessary to get the job done and get it done right. Barton Roofing was the *only* roofing contractor out of the 4 roofing companies that bid on my job to point out and understand that a ridge vent only works well when your house has soffit vents. He correctly recommended that I should continue to use turbine vents if I was not going to install soffit vents and I had him replace my old, rusty, slightly squeeky turbines with slick new color-matched quiet turbines. All other roofing contractors immediately quoted me ridge vents, including one contractor who actually quoted my roof job by looking at satellite photos, without asking about soffit vents or even really appearing to understand how attic ventilation works. Barton Roofing communicates well, gives a fair price, goes the extra mile, and has an efficient and professional crew. Give Scott a call and see for yourself.
