I should have looked at the Yelp reviews before going here. Took a pair of pants to them so they could take down the legs a bit. When I get there I think to myself, 'This is a good operation.' They've got a nice facility, good layout, nice counter, and a pro pos system. The woman that helped me out was a bit snarky and gave me some sass, but I didn't mind too much; I took it in stride. I go to pick up the pants and hold out my credit card. He says, "We're not set up for that." I was very confused. Here is this really nice place with a good pos system, marble looking counter, the whole nine yards and they don't take credit card? It's 2014, anyone can take credit cards. He then asks me, "Do you have cash?" I hand him a twenty and he says, "of course you do" in a way that makes it seem like he just picked my pocket. Terrible customer service. I brought in 3 pairs of pants to be patched and was honestly amazed at how bad the work was. I went back to let them know I wasn't satisfied with the work and to try to find a resolution or get a refund. Even after the tailor said he COULD NOT fix the work up to the standard i was requesting (a standard of work I have had done at other places) a man who I'm guessing was the owner repeatedly told me that if i leave the pants the tailor would fix them again. In a bind, I recently used this dry cleaners and had a less than satisfactory experience. Upon handing over a few dress shirts to be cleaned, I was told that some of them needed to be hand finished instead of run through the press. My shirts are just your average dress shirt and all the same size/style; nothing fancy at all. So you can imagine the sticker shock experienced when the ticket read over $13 to launder a few garments. In my many years of going to various cleaners, this has never come up. Instead of getting a real answer when asked why the need for hand finishing, I was told "Sometimes they just need to be hand finished because of the type of shirt." Another person behind the counter jumped in at this point since they saw me standing their with the a perplexed look on my face. They said, "The ones that are hand finished will be on one color hanger and the others will be on a different color...they will make any adjustments when you come to pick up if they end up not having to hand finish." I still wasn't satisfied with the answer but had no other choice seeing I needed the shirts cleaned. Fast forward to picking them up: what do you know, all shirts come out on the same color hanger and still the up-charge for hand finishing. When asked why all of the shirts can't go through the press, I was told this time it's because of the shirt size. My response was what I thought would be an obvious one: the shirts are all the same size. The employee was now a bit flustered and when I said it still doesn't make sense, they proceeded to give me my receipt and say "Next time you come in you can tell them to write 'no HF' on the ticket and they can try to 'force' the shirt through...have a good night." They didn't know what else to say at this point and helped another customer. You may be reading this and think "so what?" The kicker is two of the shirts were exactly the same, just different colors. One was a hand finish, the other, not. When asked about the situation my normal cleaners said "it's a load of sh*t and I hope you called them out on it." Moral of the story: don't be afraid to call this place out on their sh*t and take your business elsewhere. read more

A few years back, I brought in a very expensive suit to be altered, the tailor cut it so short the kick pleat showed my ass. I gave them another chance and they were so rude. Especially the man who waited on me. Mind you, I never ever made mention of my destroyed suit. When I went in today to pick up my daughters coat, a woman came from behind the counter and bumped into me, I said 'oh, I'm so sorry", this older woman who BUMPED INTO ME SAID "Okay". I behaved like a lady, instead of telling them both to suck it, and left. The tailor is incompetent, my mom needed pants shortened not too long ago, the pants came back uneven, and, you're lucky if they "clean" your garments properly. They DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU!!! I was a first time customer. Be warned. They DO NOT TAKE CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS!!! They don't tell you that either. Their staff is unfriendly. I had a dispute this morning because I didn't have enough cash with me. I had $8.00 of a $15.000 bill. Told the person at the desk that I live around the corner and would come back at end of day. Owner called me cursing and threatening me. I immediately came back and handed him the balance of $7.00 and look forward to a future where I will never step foot in that store again. Absolute worst customer experience I've ever had! I showed up to pick up a few shirts just prior to attending Veterans Day event and the store was closed. It was the middle of the day and there was no sign on the door explaining why the business was closed.I traveled out for my event and returned the following week and when I asked the owner about the store closure he was not very sympathetic. This is absolutely no way to treat a veteran. The owner was extremely rude and by the way he was in the middle of another argument with another veteran telling them that he would not honor the coupon because the veterans shirts were an extra large. This is the absolute worst dry cleaning service in the entire state of New York. The customer service does not exist. They close early and are entirely unapologetic!!! I was standing outside the locked front door of the store 8 minutes before the store's posted closing time and the clerk, Larry, who is still inside the store refuses to get me the items I left for cleaning. He tells you to come back in the morning. Is this guy serious?!?!? This is a clown show operation so if you are not in the mood for a full blown circus act without popcorn, stay far away from here. Big guys beware! I recently moved around the corner from Atlantic and I was excited to see $0.99 shirt cleaning because I go through a lot of shirts for work. I brought in my shirts for laundry and also a couple of items to be repaired. When I got to my car, I took a look at the receipts and noticed that they had charged me $2.95 for each shirt. When I went back inside, they explained to me that because of my apparently massive size, I had to pay almost three times the price. Apparently, it takes three times as much labor to press my shirts as that of an ordinary man. Now I will admit, I am a big guy: I'm about 6'4", 285 and my shirts are 18/37, but I'm certainly not three times an average person . Careful not to be ripped off!! read more

I am only giving them one star because Yelp will not allow me to give zero stars. First I am a repeat customer of this establishment and I have never ever had any problem with the service here before. Today was different. A few weeks ago I dropped off several items to be cleaned. I picked them up on May 23, took them home and hung them on the back of my bedroom door. Yesterday morning I decided that I would wear a silk blouse that was among those items. When I about to put on my blouse I was floored!!! It is an ecru silk blouse. When I took it to Atlantic Cleaners it had some pen marks on the front, but nothing major. Today my blouse is covered with brown marks that look like it has been scorched. Some of the scorch marks have holes. I am looking at it like was the press too hot or something? I get up this morning and take it to the business, do they can see it. I go in, ask for the manager and show him the blouse. This guy immediately gets defensive and tells me, "We didn't do this!" I am like "Really?! Because I didn't bring it in like this. It has been burned or something!" He tells me that their equipment is covered in Teflon and can't burn." "Well it did because I didn't burn it." He takes the blouse into the back of the store "to show to one of his guys and see what happened." Upon his return he "invites me back to speak with his manager. We didn't do this." I tell him I won't be back...ever. He folds my charred blouse and hands it back to me. "Fine." He says. I just moved to the Freeport area, and was in need of a cleaners. So, I looked through here and read the reviews. Looking at the reviews of this place, I thought I should stay away. I decided to give them a shot, since they advertise .99 cent shirts. Sounded pretty good. I called before going to drop off my clothes to see if I could verify the prices. I was told they do not provide prices over the phone. Hmm... That's strange. What could they be hiding? Ok, no big deal so I make my way over there to drop off my clothes. I turn in my pants for dry cleaning, then my shirts. I ask the lady how much are the shirts - .99 cents right? She then turns to ask another man at the counter. I was told that my shirts would have to be hand pressed and it would be 3 dollars and some change EACH! Ridiculous! What happened to .99 cents? I tell the lady - never mind. Give me my clothes back. I am out of here, and NEVER TO RETURN! I am glad I did not leave my clothes there, especially after reading the reviews. I validated the negative reviews myself. read more

This place has a million signs in the window advertising their specials. Like a complete sucker I fell for one of them - 99 cents a shirt. So I brought my shirts in for the first time and as I was putting my shirts on the counter, casually confirmed that the shirts were indeed 99 cents and that there was no double secret fees that they conveniently forgot to tell me. His response - where do I live. Where do I live?? I thought that was odd, but I told him where I live and then asked why that was relevant. He said it will mostly likely be 99 cents but the price depends on where you live. At this point I should have know something was up. I cant believe they charge people different amounts depending on where they live. I just cant believe it. I got to think this guy was just mistaken. If I am from Merrick my shirt costs X but if I am from Bellmore it costs Y...if this is true, its the stupidest promo ever. In any event, that is not the reason for the low score. As I was putting my shirts on the counter he stops me and requests that he count the shirts cause he had to see if there were "any fancy shirts with fancy buttons." I said, fancy buttons? He said some shirts have fancy buttons and wouldn't work with his machine. If they had fancy buttons he had to charge me like two bucks and change. In my entire life of going to cleaners in NY, NYC and Baltimore, I have never heard of such a thing. His machine doesn't work with "fancy button shirts" and I got to pay??? Seriously?? Not only did I have to pay more but the dry cleaning sucked. And one of the shirts that had fancy buttons - yea the buttons were broken. Unreal. read more

Well, I guess I am the only positive review to date. I stand by this review and will keep using Atlantic Cleaners for our cleaning needs. This is a mom & pop business with employees who are loyal and have been there for years. Yes, they are busy and maybe overworked but I am happy with the service and dedication of the staff. They are honest and if the garment needs special attention, guess what, sometimes you have to pay for specialized attention to keep your garment pristine. My family has been in town for 50 years and as long as I live here, I will continue to solicit Atlantic Cleaners for dry cleaning of men's dress shirts, specialty cleaning of my cashmere sweaters and formal wear and washing of comforters. Atlantic Cleaners has been in town for generations and if the clientele were unhappy they would be out of business! Remember that next time you read a crummy review!! read more

I went there the other day to have an expensive dress altered. When I arrived the two women behind the counter were very kind and told me to enter through the door in the front corner for the tailor. I was cheerfully greeted by the tailor who took care of me right away. He was quick and professional, and did one alteration pinning by eye (spot on, mind you). When I was leaving, they took my information and gave me a slip. When I came back to pick up the dress it was after the tailor was gone for the day so I just took the dress home. When I tried it on the dress fit perfectly. The work was top notch. I highly recommend Atlantic Cleaners for alterations. I'm not understanding the poor reviews on here, and would not have gone here if I based it off of this. They came highly recommended on the Freeport private fb page and definitely didn't disappoint. The owner is extremely rude and racists. He yelled at me for coming in earlier than the time my ticket stated. Then when I asked him to stop yelling he stated " You van bring your clothes to another place if you don't like it...possibly one that services blacks the right way". If I could give 0 stars I would...this has got to be the most absurd thing ever. I dropped off pants that just needed hemming no cleaning involved. I went to pick up my pants around 5 and at the same time calling them to make sure they could be open by the time I got there. I honestly happened to be late 15 min after closing. They were closed but the owner returned for some reason. I approached this once nice man and pleaded and asked if he could help me get the pants I needed for a wedding the next day, Sunday. They are closed on Sunday's so there is absolutely no way of getting before the wedding. I persisted on telling him my situation and he responded with disgust and apathy. What surprised me the most was his decision to wave his hand in my face to shoo me away. I did not expect this at all due to my past experiences with him and his cleaners. I kept asking and begging to please help and he refused and refused. If he is claiming to run a customer based business then he is full of crap. Not once did he say sorry or even give me a hint of sympathy. I felt very wronged and mistreated. I've been going here for years and this is not the way I thought they treated their customers.
