I found the event via the Hands On Atlanta Website. (Check my review for that. http://www.yelp.com/biz/hands-on-atlanta-atlanta) I arrived expecting to paint large murals on walls. Instead I found that the artist was actually there to explain that we would be painting murals, together with the residents of the Atlanta Union Mission, on large canvases that would eventually be hung together. Fabulous!! I loved the interaction that this encouraged. The artist, I can't remember his name, takes 6 large canvases and draws a mural across all of them. Then he puts dots of paint in each section so that volunteers and residents can fill it in later. It's a twist on the paint by number thing. He then ships the murals to some 128 different countries to beautify hospitals. He believes that art is therapeutic. It's good for those of us who paint it and those who view it. Anyway, I sat for about 2 hours talking with residents while doing my favorite thing: painting. It was wonderful to talk to the guys about their lives and share a little of mine. At the end of the 2 hours, I felt like I had grown as a person. (I know it sounds sappy, but it's true.)

This used to be such a staple. An Atlanta institution. I grew up with an interior designer mom so I…read morespent a lot of time here as a child (the old location). AS an adult I have spent far less time, but I recently moved out of state and we have nothing like this in my new area so I was looking forward to my stop here on a recent visit to collect swatches for the many projects I have planed for or new house. Wow is it different. First and most clearly it's a much smaller footprint. Many of the options have been reduced to sample books that you cannot take a sample of yourself to see in our space and lighting. How is this helpful? They used to have scissors, labels and pencils at every bay so that you could take distinctive notes for each sample you got. Not anymore. I had to take a photo of the swatch with label and sku and try to get a bit of the roll in to get a larger look at the sample. By the tome I got them all home I had no idea what each was or how to reference it. So the entire visit ended up was a wast of my time and energy and frankly, their resources. The samples are all precut (and tiny). So if you want a swatch f a print or embroidered material good luck getting a clear swatch with all the colors and/or details in it. They also were out of a lot of of the swatches. I mentioned they are precut now?...well if you are going to do that then you need to make sure that you are keeping them stocked regularly. I would say about half of what I wanted a swatch of, I had to walk to the front, ask a staff member to get up from her work, walk back with me and find what I was looking at, and cut me a swatch because they aren't checking it regularly. This is such a waste of my time and theirs (staff seemed to also be annoyed at this and my constant asking them to stop what they were doing to walk around the store to cut a single swatch) and never used to be an issue under the old system. They have also taken a huge portion of the space for cheep furniture. Think like Homegoods level stuff. Nothing special or particularly interesting. It is all very inexpensive (and it looks it-it all looked kind of junky) but like why? They significantly downgraded the footprint of the store and used a huge portion of the smaller space...for this? What is the purpose when you could use that space to being back some of the rolls of actual material? They did not have a lot of patterns & prints, embroidered materials, beaded fabrics, or anything really textural or interesting. They used to have so much diversity and what was there was mostly variations of plain textiles or really "southern" feeling prints...So it just lost a lot of what used to make this place so good. While chatting with staff I found out that the store was sold some years ago which seems to be the root of the issue. So if the owners or management see this, please for the love of all that is holy go back to the old systems because this isn't working. I can understand making changes and economizing but the way they have done this isn't positive, especially as your prices have gone way up and your offerings have deteriorated so dramatically. I was just window shopping (with the intent to place a large order for shipment) and if this is the new experience to get swatches to consider, I can't imagine the ordering process would be any less frustrating. It just making a much more frustrating experience for you customer. If I had never been here prior to this experience I wouldn't be returning. I hope it is a one off, but after seeing some other recent reviews, it seems to be the new normal. Shame on the new owners.

We had to redo both items three times and still it is the worst workmanship ever seen...in fact, was told by the owner that they send it out to a place in Buford, GA to do the reupholstering. I had no idea this was the case or would have walked out the door immediately! The Forsyth that I had done a lot of business with on Huff Rd. was spectacular! I knew that something was a miss when I walked into this place on Ellsworth and nobody was in there! I didn't pay attention to my gut. Out over $1,000 and wish I could get in touch with the other reviewers to commiserate about this awful experience! Hopefully, if others read the reviews, they will not even step foot into this establishment.

I went in and provided pictures of what I wanted done. I have two bar stools that I wanted covered in leather to match my couch. I provided the cowhide. I asked the receptionist, Angie how long it would take to complete the job. She stated 3 weeks. I thought that was long but agreed to it. Well 11 weeks later the job was still not completed. No communication from the business. I called and Angie hung up the phone on me. Therefore, I went to the shop and asked them to return my stools to me. She alleged that they were pulled apart and would be ready the following day. I think they must have did a rush job when I showed up. Waited 11 1/2 weeks for very poor quality work. The seat of 1 stool is much thicker than the other. The thinner seat is so close to the legs, that you are sitting on the acrylic legs. It's very uncomfortable. Both seats are uneven. I paid quite a bit for the stools and cowhide. I am afraid to ask them to fix it because of the ridiculous amount of time they take and the poor quality of their work. The pictures below represent their work, the darker material is the after. The lighter material is before. Again, a very basic job gone very wrong. Unfortunately for me I use to like to sit on my stools. Unless you have money to throw away I would stay very far away.

I also have to hand it to BJ who did the installations. We spread this project over 3 orders a couple weeks apart to take time figuring out what we needed. Each time, BJ was thorough, thoughtful, and fast. We have black windows throughout the house, which is new for us and made design selections a little trickier, but the results are outstanding. Wil and team went above and beyond to get the colors exactly right and ensure everything was measured and designed to spec for each window. There are way more decisions to make than you realize, so having someone knowledgeable to walk us through the options made all the difference. The results speak for themselves. I wish the photos did them justice! They're even better in person. We went with white 2-inch faux wood blinds (they look awesome with the black windows!), sheer black solar roller shades, and extra-large wood plantation shutters custom painted to match the window trim. They are stunning.
