This state-of-the…read moreart physical therapy center is conveniently located a few blocks from the MGH T-stop, and is associated with MGH Sports Medicine so they really know what they're doing. I went to another physical therapist before coming here, and there was a huge difference - Garth took time to make sure I was doing the exercises correctly, and explained what he was doing and why - all of the folks here are extremely knowledgeable. The only thing stopping the group from getting five stars is that when you have appointments at peak times (right before or after work) it can feel a little bit like an assembly line - there are many physical therapists working out of the space, so even though it's a big facility you can feel a little crowded when all of the therapists are working at once.

Inpatient has a commitment requirement that the patient will participate in physical rehabilitation for three hours every day. I found this immensely beneficial, since some places just leave you doing little or nothing every day. The rooms look like The Four Seasons Hotel! I was in a room of my own...all hardwood, large windows with water views, a nurse with no more than seven patients. Lots of rehabilitation work, but everyone is very attentive. My nurse was phenomenal. There are no meal menus. An attendant comes to your room with a wheeling computer cart, and reads you menu suggestions, but you are always free to voice your own choices and wishes. Food was delicious. There's so much detail to every single thing here! If you HAVE to be somewhere, it's a terrible catastrophe, but being at Spaulding, Charlestown is the best!

From what I've read this issue is hard to cure, possibly permanent, but at Accelerated PT. It took some time, but my toe has very noticeably improved and my range of motion is coming back when initially my toe was stiff as an iron rod. Of all my ROM (range of motion) issues I've had to date this has been worst. Honestly, I'm surprised how much Ara has improved my foot. I am happy I came here. Ara's treatments are in the style of small group personal training. He has 3 benches inside his office. In addition a couple people may be outside doing some stretching, icing, or routine exercises with a PT student. If you value privacy over whatever problem is ailing you then by all means don't go to Ara. However know that you'll be missing out on some of the best treatment you can get. His walls say it all (many thanks from professional athletes/entertainers up there). He will attend to other patients but he will get to you and work on your injury personally when it is you turn. He will attend to all of your questions / concerns if you need a little more time. He has never once rushed me out of his office, as other PTs will to keep their tight 1 on 1 schedules. This is a relaxed setting where you can get all the help you need. Go see Ara. You'll be glad you did.

Throughout all of my visits she was very friendly, answered all of my questions, and extremely caring. Scheduling was pretty straightforward, although in the later months it seemed harder to get an appointment last minute and had to schedule a few weeks in advance for more popular times. However they did have a system where you can be added to the waitlist for a time and you will get emailed to see if you want to take that appointment which I thought was nice

She has a great "bedside manner:" friendly, easy to talk to, knowledgeable. I never feel rushed when she's with us (even if the office is clearly very busy). I love that Dr. Tomkins is open to and even suggests natural interventions before chemical ones. She is helpful in creating a modified vaccine schedule, and knows about alternative medicine. I've also seen Dr. Coffey at the office (Ball Sq. Family Health), and was very comfortable with him also. He is the only "Dr. Sears approved" doctor in the area!
