I have been looking for a facility for my mother and visited Atherton Park and meet with the staff and nurses. Everyone at the facility was very welcoming, kind and answered all of my questions. I was very impressed and know this is the place I will be having take care of my mom. read more

Our family came to this hospice when my father was admitted for comfort care for three weeks. This was one of the most emotional and vulnerable times of our lives. There were a few nurses who were truly compassionate -- they hugged us, reassured us, and made it clear that my father's comfort mattered. Those moments meant more to us than they will ever know. However, there were also nurses whose approach felt cold and dismissive. One nurse was so blunt that he didn't even finish feeding my father because it was taking him too long to chew. In a place meant for comfort and dignity, moments like that were deeply painful to witness. The facility itself could also use more nurturing care. The environment felt in need of better cleanliness and attention, which is especially important in a setting where families are already carrying so much emotional weight. Sadly, my father passed away. I do want to acknowledge one nurse on the third floor who stood out beyond words. From my very first visit, which was incredibly emotional she assured me she would take the best care of my father, and I believed her. Her compassion, warmth, and humanity brought comfort to our family during the hardest days of our lives. I saw her again recently and couldn't help but hug her. If you are reading this, please know you are truly an angel. I only wish I had remembered your name. May God bless you with love, peace, and happiness. Hospice care should be built on patience, kindness, and dignity. I hope this facility reflects deeply on the care it provides, because families will remember these moments forever. read more

Crowded- nurse to patient ratio awful. People sitting in hallways hunched over. I wouldnt leave my dog there much less my father.

A terrible place. The first floor entrance looks like a hotel . The third floor is under construction like a ghetto. You hear people moaning even you stand on the outside ground . You hear people call young girls visitors invitingly.and patients sit in corridor coughing. You wonder if this is America? My photos are limited the real scenes are more terrible. The nursing staff and CNAs are what make this place remarkable. Food is, for the most part, so-so. Although there are some shining moments (pizza and roast beef dipper sandwiches are examples). The Director here is a good man who, generally speaking, acts in the best interest of the residents. You must speak up for yourself or have an advocate who can come by fairly regularly to stand up for you. They say you get what you pay for and that's true here good insurance will get you a private room. And that makes a difference when your roommate is a persistent screamer, or likes the room hot all of the time . . . My elderly aunt spent 6 weeks in Atherton Park Post Acute after a fall. The facility is dingy and in serious need of some upgrades: maybe some fresh paint in some other color than grey, some pictures in patients' rooms, etc. The parking lot is very small and always full. She was supposed to be getting physical and occupational therapy several times per week. Sometimes she was in too much pain to do the therapy, but the staff either didn't listen, or just dismissed her because she is elderly and, I am the first to admit, very stubborn. She was without her hearing aids the majority of the time and because everyone is wearing a mask, she couldn't understand anything people were telling her. She requested her food to be without certain spices, but instead of just omitting the spices, they brought her 3 lumps of pureed food for lunch and dinner - the exact same thing - every day. Finding staff to help was always a challenge. The CNA's were wonderful, but many times, it felt like a 'pass the buck' mentality when we would ask for something for her. I specifically recall one visit in which a patient across the hall needed bathroom assistance and her poor husband was asking for hours for someone to come in. Trying to reach anyone on her 'care team' was exasperating; usually 5 or 6 calls to them before anyone would return a call. We brought her food and snacks from home, blankets or other items she requested. On her release day, her purse went missing! It was finally found by an orderly with the explanation that it was "misplaced", but that should never have happened. We fortunately had her wallet and important items at home, but it's the principle! I will say the front desk staff was wonderful, sympathetic and got to know us by name. Other than that, our overall view of this place and the experience we and my aunt had with them was pretty bad. We didn't choose this facility, it's just where the hospital sent her. Honestly she came out less mobile and more frail than when she went in. She had been ambulatory and only needed some walking assistance. Now she is in a wheelchair and needs help with most tasks. read more

Mom stayed here for six weeks. Some nurses and assistants were caring and responsive but most were not. Food was never served at the same time and when it was served it was usually well after the normal meal time. And tough luck if you're sleeping when the meal is delivered. They just take the food away untouched without trying to wake you up. One of the two elevators was out of service for almost the entire time. Staff was very rough with the residents. The resident across the hall fell out of bed one day. No one came for about five minutes so we had to go alert the nurse. Every time we asked staff whether my mom was sleeping at night we got a different answer. The only reliable information we got was from the other resident that was sharing the room. I would really think twice about sending anyone here. read more

My mother has been a patient here for several days now. I am so thankful for the quality of care she has received at Atherton P.A. and for the hard work of staff to keep the facility clean. I heard warnings about the quality of SNFs available for Kaiser patients. Since I was worried for my mother, I toured several facilities before I found Atherton Post Acute. I left several messages to all of the facilities contracted with Kaiser, as well as filled out their contact forms. Atherton was one of the two who called me timely. Some of them still have not responded. From the start, the cleanliness and patient centered environment is what attracted me to this SNF. My mother had a rough start at the facility and the nurses were very caring and patient. After the initial anxiety my mom had, two of the night nurses told me that it often takes a couple of days for a patients to get settled in. They completely understood and told me how much my mom loves to converse with them. The PT and other activities are so varied, my mom appreciates she has a choice of things to do. She particularly loves the ability to receive Holy Communion. She has come to understand that she has work hard to get through the PT and healing and that there are things she can do there to help the time pass easier. Communicating with their coordinators and managers is very easy. I found that my mom's renal diet food was making her miserable. The coordinator quickly worked it out with the cook, and she has been really happy with the variety. Everyday, I've seen my mom's spirit improve. The doctor and nurse coordinator has been on top of my mom's improvement and it's so easy to talk to them about her medical condition. They have given her outstanding personal care. The staff is friendly and are very respectful about privacy. Many of the patients need personal help, and you never see people in there rooms being cleaned up or changed. It really helps that the staff are cheerful and caring. The facility has really nice community areas. Patients have the option to sit together in a dining room, or dine in their rooms. The rehab room is huge and my mom has been having fun with some of the easier exercises. Everyday, laundry is taken out and washed when requested, and everything from socks to toothpaste are readily and happily given when requested. It is always nice seeing the nurses and other staff make their rounds because they are so friendly and always glad to help. I would highly recommend this SNF to anyone. read more

My sister-in-law had been calling for assistance when I arrived yesterday. (10/4/23). There was not a soul around. I noticed other rooms with their call-lights lit, as well. No one was in sight, not at thd crntral nursing station, not up snd form the corridors. This situation continued for, at least, 10 minutes after I had arrived. This is unacceptable. Today her roommate called me that she was sitting at edge of bed and could not move. No one was coming to her aid so her roommate called me to see if I could reach someone there at the facility that could help. I was transferred to Administrator Steven Jones voice mail. The best so far according to my opinion in the area. From the Administrator down to the receptionists, were very friendly, respectful & always greeting you with a smile:). The facility is very clean, no unpleasant odor. The Social Activities staff are awesome & they have great snacks. With regards to the Nursing Staff, they are approachable, always ready to listen to your concerns. Some areas of care needs polishing in terms of delivery. If zero stars was an option... My aunt lived at this facility for almost 10 months. She was severely neglected on many levels. First, she's a renal diabetic and the facility's employees came and went, this was especially true the dietician. The food was very poor quality and contributed to her downfall. Sometimes, she was served the same meal for lunch and dinner for several days and was not given fresh fruit or vegetables. One cook told her was no longer a renal diabetic and said she could eat anything she wanted. For most of her stay hot water was a consistent problem, she'd refuse showers sometimes because she didn't want to be so cold. When she mentioned this issue, she was ignored. there was also a water leak and water on the floor a lot. I suspect her perennial cough she picked up living there was caused by mold in the walls. My aunts personal clothing and social security card were stolen out of her room. CNA's falsified her weight on records and she was always over-medicated and not given the medicine originally prescribed from her outside physician because the facility deemed it too expensive. The "physician" and "physician assistant" saw her once over her 9 months living there, so she digressed. The last few days, I told her that we needed to transfer her to a hospital because she could die. Due to the pandemic, she had been quarantined to her room for the last two months (2022) and no family member had seen her physically. Alma, a nurse tried to tell me on the phone my aunt was fine and she didn't want hospitalization. Kyle, her "clinical case worked" reiterated as such, however when I asked if he'd ever met her or laid eyes on her, he said no. The neglect, miscommunication of leadership disgusted me. If you do not care about your family member, this is a great place to send them. They don't answer the phone on weekends nor do they respond to messages all that much. read more

Best run care facility. Super Clean, Beautiful Environment and Awesome Staff. Even the meals are yummy for my picky father. What stands out is the personal attention provided by the nurses, CNAs, doctors, therapists and all the staff here, who are always cheerful, positive and encouraging to the patients, despite the hardwork and stress. Even the admin staff (including the receptionists) are so welcoming to visitors. I had no trouble reaching out after hours to Amanda & Tracy for any questions or concerns. To me, that is certainly extra mile services and "rare-gem" encounters. The care of Atherton PPP greatly contributed to my father's recovery and now he is going home. Mil has been over here for over a year due to having Parkinson's, among a handful of other issues. The food according to her is acceptable and the care of good and she's comfortable. They are however occasionally short on staff which can be a bit inconvenient but she's doing well. read more

The staff were really nice and kind although they were not really prepared or knowledgeable on how to help my grandmother . The doctor said that she can't twist her back pre op but the staff seemed unknown to that. Also they seemed to just forget about her and her dinner not that anybody would have a appetite from the funky smell. That's not it when she needed help to use the bathroom she called for help FOUR TIMES that is just ridiculous. She ended up doing it by herself which mind you is against the docter after they forced her to use the bathroo ( there is a language barrier) The other reviews that say ohh this place is sooo great is likely a scam. read more

My grandmother stayed here for 2 weeks and I can't tell you how lucky my family was to get her back to her baseline. She was admitted at a hospital and wasn't able to walk prior to her admission there. The rehab team was amazing and nursed her back to how she was prior to be hospitalized. Dr. Joshi does not visit the patients at Atherton. My wife has been, an in house patient for 9 months he has never visited Jan Pipkin. It would seem the medical rule to at least visit your patients. Working with the folks at Atherton, given the pandemic, has been so streamlined especially with care coordination. Despite the outbreak within the Facility, they quelled it and kept their patients and residents and Families safe with their stringent protocol. Brad and Travis are amazing leaders along with Sam and Mariel, who, as social workers, assured a smooth discharge to ensure their patients safely return home with their Family. Melissa, the Admission Director, is a great gatekeeper who qualifies admissions with strict guidelines with safety and protection in mind for the staff and in-house patients. One of their nurses overdosed my sister on fentanyl at an insanely high level, which put her in a coma for several days. When she woke up, she was in major delirium for several days before her immune system went into major shock and died days after because of septic shock. She did have skin cancer, but God only knows how much longer she would have lived without the fentanyl overdose which affected every system of her body in ways I still can't even fathom. Even an extra minute more of her alive would have been better. I tried to get my sister's medical records from this place, but they would refuse to respond to my emails or my voicemails (I'm assuming they were scared of a lawsuit). You can check all my other reviews on yelp, and I usually won't rate a place at all if I can't say 5* worth of good about it, but 1* for taking a life prematurely and immaturely by an untrained nurse is the most I can conjure for what I really want to say to the people who own this place. You guys didn't even reach out to my mom for help and instead even sent a bill after (despite my sister's insurance taking care of everything) to us after my sister had died. I just don't know where to start...or end with this place. Please do not allow your loved ones to stay here. Choose another hospice. read more

The nurses were beyond kind and took care of my love one with compassion throughout his entire recovery period.Gave us good customer services durign several occasions. The social worker was also extremely kind and helpful From the beginning. I highly recommend using Atherton Regency services for your post surgical recovery!!. There were no smells, the residents were up, and engaged in activities most of the time, and each staff member smiled at me. A great feeling when you walk into this nursing home. I feel so fortunate to have stayed at this facility after my hip replacement surgery. They treated me like a queen! Atherton Regency is very clean and you get 3 HOT meals a day with lots of vegetables. The staff works hard to make your stay pleasant and rewarding. They all have a great attitude! The nurses and aids snd office staff:people that work here are very nice, but we had extremely bad experience having someone stay there. One department does not coordinate with the other, they don't have telephones in the room because they were redoing the rooms which was very difficult for a patient not to be able to call. The patient got Covid, we were not notified until well after it was diagnosed and therefore her husband also contracted Covid by visiting snd they are in their 80's. They left her in bed 24:7 and did not exercise her and get her sitting in a chair and within 2 1/2 weeks she lost 12 pounds going from 116 down to 94 lbs. Maintaining her strength was critical to her getting a surgery. She went in in order to stay on intravenous antibiotics to get ready for surgery and when I force them to release her because she was dying. She was malnourished and hadn't drank anything and I had to them o give her liquids to hydrate her intravenously. As soon as she came home and was eating and drinking, her health got better. She was transferred home by ambulance and they did not put her clothes, shoes or $200 glasses with her m. I called many many times and ask them to search, lost and found and call me and could never get callbacks again! The people were very nice however the orchestration of all things that happen in the property was very bad. read more

I've taken my grandmother to a number of different facilities trying to find the best fit for her. I ran into problems with our awful the CNA staff was to her, but when I stepped foot into Atherton it was such a friendly atmosphere. My grandma has a great time and feels so safe. That's so important for healing. She is able to interact with the other patients there and keep active. Fingers crossed after she gets better from this last fall I won't have to put her back into a rehab, but if I do I definitely will be coming back to Atherton. read more

My 5 star review for Atherton Regency is taking the following things into perspective. 1) Who is paying for the services? 2) Does the facility allow me to have the mother/daughter relationship I so missed vs. having to be her care giver, and 3) Are they able to give her the care they need 24/7? Here's my overall review . . . FACILITY: Upon entering, the place indeed looks new and remodeled. Is it a facade? No. I think they are slowing improving the facility. The condition of the 2nd and 3rd floor is indeed reminiscent of something from the early 70's. Private rooms are being slowly updated, and shared rooms, nurses stations, hallways, etc. are indeed outdated, and some things like wheel chairs, furniture, etc. could stand to be retired. But if something needs correcting, the staff will do the needful to help correct it. Elevators are slow, and at one point, one of the elevators broke down, and was inoperable for about 3 weeks. There are days when the entire floor could smell like poo or pee. But that's to be expected as there are elders that are just unable to control their bowel. The facility is, however very clean. And, unless your loved one is in a private room, and even with a private room, privacy at a skilled nursing facility is unheard of! If it's not the sound of the call light at the nurse station from a patients room, or an elderly person yelling "help, help, help", or someone just screaming, silence and privacy is not a term that goes hand in hand at a skilled nursing facility. The rehabilitation area at Atherton Regency is great!!!! My loved one has been to other skilled nursing facilities, and this place, hands down, has gone out of the way to provide the appropriate environment to rehabilitate your loved one. This is 100x more important to me then a bedside table that was reminiscent of something from the 70's. FOOD: Food is indeed nothing to rave about at any skilled nursing facility! But I will give Atherton Regency props because they at least have a menu option. Unlike some skilled nursing facilities that my loved one has stayed at in the past where patients don't get an option and every patient gets the exact same item. Moreover, if your loved one doesn't have food restrictions, there's nothing stopping you from bringing them food from outside. Or even taking them out to eat if nothing is prohibiting that. STAFF: CNA'S here are great!!!! They are the boots on the ground!!! They are the one who do the heavy lifting and and dirty work. From bathing your loved one, lifting them from their bed if they are unable to do it themselves, getting them into a wheel chair, helping them go to the bathroom, cleaning their poopy or urine, getting meals to them, etc. If you think it's taking them forever to get to your loved one, keep in my that some patients require more attention then other. So unless it's an emergency, use patience! Patients come and go if they are not long term, so bare in mind that CNA's, just like the patient need to learn and adjust and figure out how to work together. NURSES: While the nurses are equally hard workers. Some need to do to do a better job communicating to their patients and family members, especially when it's time to take their meds. Rather then just give them their meds to take, they should advise their patient what is being given to them at the time. SOCIAL WORKER/CASE MANAGER: Social worker and case manager at Atherton are great in terms of looking out for your loved ones best interest. They are truly their to help and advocate for your loved one. Yeah, their communication with the responsible party could be improved, but hands down, they are better then other SNF's that my loved one has been to. PT/OT/THERAPY TEAM: I have found that therapist are the most under rated group of individuals. Like the CNA's and nurses, they work just as hard to help rehabilitate your loved one. These group of individuals have help my loved one go from being unable to stand, to standing, walking with assistance, dressing oneself, etc. Rehabilitation is not over night, but the progress is undeniable. ACTIVITIES: Atherton Regency has extra curricular activities to help break the routine and to help incorporate other activities into your loved ones life. They have someone come in to sing to the patients, monthly candle light dinners, game time, prayer time, etc. YOU! If you are the responsible person for your loved one. Guess what? You also need to play an active role. Be there, observe, work with the team, thank the team, and most of all, always visit your loved one. If you are expecting a top notch facility, a private nurse, and gourmet meals, round the clock doctors, then maybe out of pocketing for a private nursing home is the best route for you and your loved one. read more

I was a recent patient here. The nurses and CNA's are the best! Unfortunately, the place is run by an administration that leaves a lot to be desired. Starting when I first called and spoke to someone in the admissions office telling her that medically, I was fine; just need physical therapy 2 times a day to 'get back my walking skills' after a bout with covid-19. I was told that would be fine. Also told her I did NOT want to end up in a room with any patient that was recovering from serious physical and/or mental issues. Told her that I was previously in a rehab in Fremont with 2 other patients that kept me up day and night shouting for nurses. Well, they basically ignored what they agreed to and I ended up in a room with a patient screaming all night ... "NURSE!!!!!!!!!! NURSE!!!!!!!!!! NURSE!!!!!!!!!" He also banged on the walls, threw items on the floor to try and get attention. Personal complaints from me to the administrator fell on deaf ears ... he lied to me and I ended up with exactly what I told them I did not want. Calls to the administration office requesting return calls were useless; they never returned calls. I also got very limited physical therapy, so I left this place. Do yourself a big favor ... find better place. read more

I solely created this yelp account to write this review which is highly over due. I still do not understand why this place is even allowed to remain open. I had a loved one here who is currently in the hospital and definitely won't be back! This company is so good at hiding their tracks and definitely makes sure the dirt is under the rug before the state shows up. Nevertheless, don't be fooled by the other 5 star reviews as they claim that this place is impeccable. I'm sure if it was then they wouldn't have a single fall and of course wouldn't have sent my loved one to the hospital with fractures! Avoid this place at all costs! Don't let the pictures fool you and definitely don't let the rest of these reviews fool you either. read more

I will save most of my comments for the Department of Public Health. This is not a place for people medically compromised. Filthy dirty, and the nursing staff do not understand disease process and how fast a patient can turn. I showed these pictures to the director and he stated that there is a policy against taking photos of the facility. My response was fantastic, I would like to add that policy with the complaint I file with DHS. Guess what, there is no policy. So it's filthy, the nurses are not really trained for sick people, and the administrator is a bold face liar. Otherwise the lobby remodel is lovely. The room my brother was put in was for three people and the other two residents had staked their claim and took over, he was shoved in a corner. Is it wrong to say thank God he went into kidney failure and had to go back to Stanford? The biggest conundrum, where will the truly sick, like my brother go when they no longer to be in an acute facility (i.e. Stanford). My mission in life has always been health care for everyone. I am proud of the steps made by Obamacare. The next dragon I will slay are these "skilled nursing facilities". They have to do better. I was horrified and saddened. read more

Recently my father became very sick and spent a month in the hospital. At that time, I wasn't sure if he would return to his apartment because he needed more care as well as get stronger. So, I toured a few facilities. I decided to place my Dad at Atherton Regency in Menlo Park as it was closer to my home. Everyone was very welcoming. So far I am happy with his care and he is doing great transitioning into his new environment. They truly do hire only the best staff. Activities department is doing a great job. The rehab is looks good. All of the therapists are wonderful to work with. CNA and nurses are all also doing a great job. Not forgetting that they also have Salon, where my dad gets complimentary haircut when needed. I do not regret choosing this facility. To anyone considering utilizing this facility for a loved one, it's the right choice. read more
