I've waited 4 weeks to swap out a damaged bin. Damage caused by Athens. First two weeks they said too busy. Third week they said I did not leave out. TOTAL LIE!! It was placed where I have put my cans for the entire time that Athens was our provider. They said I did not put out. It was there but they neglected to tell me to put by mailbox. Although in Thousand Oaks if you do that then the mailman gets angry..... So they lied again. It was out, the driver just neglected to look to the left side of our property. Yesterday was week 4 ... again they did not pick up. Just talked to them. I was given a lecture that I did not put in front of mail box (but of course they never specified). So special to be lectured by someone who anweres the phone who automatically assumes I did not leave it out. I would really appreciate a phone back from Athens to talk about. The staff on the phone are always nice. We ordered several extra large dumpsters in a row. It thought it strange that we had to put down a NEW substantial deposit for each one even before receiving the refund for the previous already returned one. But what made it even worse was how long it took to get our refunds back. Like 6 weeks! That's ridiculous. read more

Athens trash service is exactly that - a 'trash' service. They charge a premium rate for a sub-par service. Missed pickups have become a regular occurrence, and despite multiple attempts to contact customer service, responses are either delayed or nonexistent. When I do manage to reach someone, the solutions are vague, and the issues persist. For the price, I expected reliable service and better communication, but unfortunately, they've fallen short on both fronts. I would not recommend this service unless they improve their reliability and customer support. read more

Complete carnage company. Always dumping the trash all over the floor and not picking it up. Cans always knocked down and not placed back where it was. So I get to come hope to a huge mess almost every trash day. Tried calling customer service to fix this issue, they just leave you on an online chat screen saying someone will be with me shortly... but never come. First off, why did the city council think these were the right fits to service us? We got a notice from the city saying that Athens had or would raise the rates of their city after they low-balled their contracts. Sure enough, its happen to me in Thousand Oaks, and their trucks are just not it. The bucket in the front is worthless and there to make them look more techy, but every time they dump it, trash always finds a way out of it. Harrison and WM are overall much better company and their way of working with their trucks is far better. Harrison and WM had a higher bid, which I get why some would consider the lower cost to be Athens; however, usually a higher price comes with better service and more reliable where Athens is apparently a cheap skate. Oh, and one other thing, how do you consistently come to my neighborhood at 4 pm? WM did all 3 materials before 10 am, where these guys at least have the 1st two come before 12, but trash takes until 4 pm to get done? How slow can you possibly be that you finish that late? read more

I'm glad they work in the trash business because they are absolute rubbish! They refuse to pick up our recycle bin because it was overfilled. We share A bin with multiple businesses and it's the start of the holiday season. Of course it's going to be full. They ended up coming back 2 days later to pick it up and guess what? It was even more full. I heard the workers complaining and getting upset while they were unloading it. It's your job.... If you don't like it, find a new one. My bank made an electronic payment and they said they didn't get it. Even with proof from the bank they still refused to credit my account. So after a month of back and forth each time they requested something different. I receive a stop notice so i ended up double payment. What a headache and there are no other options unless i want to accumulate my trash and take it to dump once a quarter. My house would smell horrible. read more

Pirates. If one word had to describe them. I was happy to see them awarded the bid when they outbid Waste Management. I hoped for better service and new ideas at more cost effective price as they promised. What a joke. They often leave trash all over the street which picking up has become my new part time job. The drivers are rude and in a hurry. If your trash can lid is open at all, they will put a sticker on your trash can and send you a warning letter in the mail requesting you to order an extra trash can at your cost or be fined. The last time, my trash can was less than half full with a piece of broken sprinkler pipe holding the lid open about 6 inches. Well, this deserved a tag, a letter, and a lot of complaining. Apparently irrigation pipe is construction debris and my can was over full. It's this kind of nitpicking and looking for every little extra dollar they can make that is ridiculous. It's obvious they underbid the job and are now looking for "extras" to make up the difference. So now I have to cut everything up in little baby bite sized pieces, make sure the trash cans are far enough from the curb because we live in a culdsac and driver will cry if he can't get his truck close enough, and make sure they're far enough apart. Then I'll continue my clean up job of all the trash blowing around after they leave. Thanks guys! read more

Ordered a roll off (they are ridiculously expensive as compared to others for sure, but I was in a bind). Arrived on time. Called to have it picked up early. They didn't pick it up. I called and they said they had no record, basically saying I was lying. Finally picked up 4 days after requested with additional garbage in it that random people felt free to throw in there so I'll be charged for that. Today I called to let them know they didn't pick up my trash can yesterday (yes, it was out on time; no, it wasn't overfilled; no, nothing was blocking it...they picked up my other cans, just not the trash one). Again, was told I might be lying and they'd have to investigate it. I have to call back to find out resolution. Ridiculous. Trust your customers and do the right thing. The arrival of Athens as our new community trash hauler upset people who were used to WM. Customers, residents like me welcomed the dramatic reduction in monthly service rates. Neighbors and I anxiously awaited the new realities of an locally unknown company. Our hesitation and nerves were quickly erased as the company has delivered, as promised. We are thrilled with the new reality and excellent responses of Athen's local office -- Thousand Oaks Community Service Center. The folks there are most helpful and quick to find the answers we need. Just this week, we had bulky furniture picked up. Jess Rey handled our old bedroom set quickly and carefully. He was most friendly and professional. If the leadership of Athens only knew how he represented himself and the company, they could have him run seminars for employees who simply find their role as a paycheck. Mr. Rey deserves this recognition and our thanks. One person running a large stake-bed truck, working quickly and carefully all the while being a cordial professional demonstrates how our city and Athens delivered on customer service at competitive rates. read more

Ever since they took over trash services in the area things have been a mess. They have people moving and banging bins around at 6:30-7am. This is in Oak Park where things are very quiet. They wake the neighbors with all of the noise that they make. The previous service provider came by at around 1pm which didn't bother anyone. They won't adjust times. Their drivers clearly do what they want. They also pick up inconsistently so some times they'll do back to back days then go long period without so everything overflows. It's just messy and unprofessional. The previous providers were so much more on top of things and considerate Only giving them 2 stars so it doesn't sink into the 1 star review abyss. If you're a city employee looking to award a contract please go to any other company if possible. Athens is very disruptive to our peace here read more

Friendly, fast, responsive service every time I have called in for assistance in ordering big trash bins, bulky item pickup and other questions based on my trash service. consistent residential trash pickup weekly. And, an affordable rate. Yes I will be keeping an eye on their annual rate hikes, but we should have many years before it gets up to the high price of the precious trash company. No complaints! Wowwwwww I called Athens this morning when I realized our trash company had switched us over to them. I received amazing customer service . And just now at 3 PM there was a knock at the door. Steve Piv with Athens offered to take our Christmas tree because he had seen it out there for a couple weeks. Just a heads up. Roll offs are $217 delivery fee plus $500 deposit. Charged $77 per ton. I found a much better deal elsewhere. Customer service was excellent. Pick up and delivery was not prompt. Drivers were friendly and helpful. read more

I requested a bin for trash removal and was charged $718.40. $218.40 to rent the bin then a $500. Deposit for the tonnage of $77. A ton. The bin they tried to deliver would not fit in my driveway as I had rented previously from Harrison which did , so I sent it back and called for my money back. It has been over a week and still no money. Bad company bad service. I tried to talk to a supervisor was on hold over 30+ minutes, they said a manager would call. Still no call and no money. I have contacted Athens multiple times about leaving our trash bins on their sides in the street. I am a senior woman with little upper body strength and my husband is disabled. Since my recent shoulder surgery, having to upright the bin(s) is very painful. I don't know what else to do. When I've called Athens I get the runaround, " I'll notify the shift supervisor". Today, the recycle bin was left on its side, basically in our driveway so we couldn't back the car out without moving the bin. read more

As a new customer Athens have sent me a bill for $580 and asking them since September 2023 to provide me with the break down of charges over $580, and as of today still have not received the breakdown of the $ 580 bill and on top of it they charging me late fee! My question to idiots who works in Athens when you sent a bill over $580, dollars you need to explain where you get that number??????? If they will not provide me with the explanation, I will take them to court perhaps they would answer to judge better about the $580 charges . Our organic waste cans were not serviced on our regular day (4/24/24). I have 2 organic waste cans and my gardeners were unable to put our organic waste in the cans today (4/25/24) as Athens did not service our cans....it appears our entire street was overlooked or not serviced yesterday. While I understand things can happen (truck issues, etc.), when I called the Athens office this morning, they customer service person could not give me a reason why the cans were not serviced. All I was told was this would be reported to the route supervisor. Will our cans get serviced today? Who knows? I think the customer service reps should be informed when a problem exists so they are able to inform customers calling in to inquire. read more

Athens Services is the the waste management (trash) company that the City of Thousand Oaks just awarded a 15-year contract. They are the WORST company! Saying they are inept and incompetent doesn't even begin to describe how bad they are. They totally mismanaged changing their bins from the previous provider's. They often provided incorrect bins, missed dates, took weeks to collect bins. As far as their scheduled collection -- they frequently don't empty all of the bins. Are totally unaware they messed up. Then after being told, still don't collect the bins in a timely manner. I don't know which is worse -- Athens or the City of Thousand Oaks for giving Athens a 15-year contract! read more

Ever since we switched from Harrison I have been incredibly disappointed. Especially in regards to the bulky item pick up. Harrison is AMAZINGLY good with this. This company is completely disorganized and the communication from the call centers/administration and the people are the ground is abysmal and they just dont seem to care. They will tell you one thing then do another. Don't expect that when you call anything but a lie will come from them. I have been waiting since the end of January to get extra bins, was told 4 different dates when they would be coming even speaking to a supervisor did not help after she told me I would get the bins by the end of the week at the latest, this was 6 weeks ago she told me this. Was still using a waste management bin because I needed an extra trash bin, put it out yesterday, it was NOT emptied even though the bins on my side of the block were already done hours before. I called in and told them I needed it emptied, the girl assured me that when they do empty it that they won't take it because an order has to be put in to do that, well that was another lie because when I went outside to retrieve it, it was Gone. I call back this morning and was told that in my account it said I had already received the extra bins when I have NOT. Of course all the times I have called not one person I spoke told me that in my account it stated I had already received the bins. They DO NOT know what they are doing, they dont care and expect lies. I also have a client that didn't get any black trash bin at all, she kept calling as well. She had trash in bags because she had no bin and her elderly dog got into it and she had to rush her to the vet, that cost $500 read more

Athens is the worse thing the City of Thousand Oaks could have done. They are the most inefficient, messy trash collection services. The bins are left just wherever, I have been behind the truck on several occasions and see trash flying out, and not to mention their horrendous customer service. I have called 4 different times.
