Athens Services provides the waste management at our seven unit condominium in Venice. We have a roll off dumpster and two blue recycling bins. Athens Services is reliable and will provide an extra dumpster pick up if needed, like we recently did when a tenant moving out filled the dumpster the day after it was emptied, for only $43.54. Today, I want to give a shout out to Stephanie, the great customer service representative at Athens Services who assisted me this morning. She was fast, knowledgeable and personable. Stephanie made it easy to order a green organics bin for our building so that we would comply with the new organics program through California assembly bill AB1826. The bill requires buildings like ours to implement an organic waste recycling program. Stephanie made it easy for us to comply and gets a gold star in my book! 9 months after my last service request (pick up extra trash can), and still Athens can't seem to handle my basic service request. Received a confirmation for a replacement trash can, but "due to the high volume of service requests", they can't replace my trash can for another week. What good is a confirmation number if you're going to keep rescheduling. This is exactly what happened with my last request. Athens rescheduled each week for over one month. My guess, this family owned company has more business than they effectively handle and I hope like hell that the City of Pomona residents and other cities residents aren't stuck with a similar (alleged) 20-year contract that according to another review, the city of Azusa council was bribed with for their residents with this (Athens) company. As a 20+ year resident, I haven't experience this consistently poor level of service when it was handled by Waste Management. read more

Athens has been harassing us for the last five months in reference to our canceling in April where they removed the bin however they continued to charge us. We spoke with several people at the company. Their service rep and their district manager, along with accounting they say they corrected the issue And then they continue to send us bills for outrageous amounts of money. They have a monopoly on us. If anything is left outside the trash barrels they wont take it and will leave it. Screw this extra pick up idea. I have trash that wont fit in the 2 small barrels that were provided. They will just leave it if it is not inside and I have to wait until next week or pay too much money to have them come out. This is the worst company ever. They have terrible customer service, unreliable pick-up services, don't follow through, don't communicate with themselves or customers and continually raise prices. Absolutely LOATHE this company. I had an issue with them a few years ago when I moved into my home (I mentioned that I acquired the property months before I moved in & USED TRASH SERVICES) & they back billed me to that date & justified doing so by saying it's illegal not to have trash service !!!! Even though I was not living there or creating trash! This was during covid & the $400 they billed me was actually rough for me to pay as a hairstylist that was not able to work- I genuinely cried on the phone call & they didn't give a F*ck- I told them I was moving from an apt & didn't know how it worked (so I didn't put trash to the curb or use their services !) they still demanded I pay or threatened sending my acct to collections- heartless. Recently, I requested smaller receptacles as the 96 gallon barrels are absurdly large & I never come close to filling them- I asked if the 32 gallon barrels cost less monthly as it's 1/3 the trash & they said NO & that was up to my city -- WHY?! You're charging to discard waste; which I have LESS of! Anyway, I was told to leave the barrels at the curb & theyd be picked up & replaced with 32 gallon barrels (I arranged my schedule to make this happen) & lo & behold, these dummies did not do as they said- days later & the large barrels are still at the curb! I called to ask what's going on & they said the 32 gallon receptacles are out of stock ... meanwhile, my neighbors have brought my trashcans up my driveway 2x assuming I'm just being lazy as I await Athens to do their F'ing job. So my mom lives on a street where the city of Azusa has their historical oak trees. Residents aren't allowed to trim them. Instead residents have to deal with the acorns, roots, and leafs that kill the grass and ruin your roof and gutters. So the street sweeper has always done a great job while I was growing up there. So recently I noticed the older driver is gone and a younger driver is doing the sweeping. But he's driving the speed limit plus. So all the debris is left on the streets making a mess as it accumulates. My sister called Tom complain and then I called twice. They just tell you what you want to hear, that they'll tell the driver and the boss but nothing changes. Wish I could hire another service or bring the previous driver back. I called the city of Azusa to complain and I guess per the other complaint on Yelp, they work well together because no one would answer or return my phone calls. Dont use Auto Pay with these People!! My Card expired...and I got no notification via Email or Regular Mail to change the payment. I just got my next bill... Past due..Late fee $48 and $8 Declined Fee?? I called Athens Customer Service about the fees...they said tough luck thats our policy..and told me to take up with President Biden?! WORST trash service for commercial customers!! I have had a restaurant for 15 years and never have I had a bad experience until this company took over CALMET SERVICES. Azusa council took election money from Athens and awarded them with a 20 year contract with the city. Now our trash bill is 30% higher and they charge us $60/month for a roll out fee. They don't pick up the bulk items we've requested either. Waste Management never had any problems with our trash. Athens is a joke and the Azusa council should be ashamed of taking bribes and forcing higher trash bill on the residents. read more

Without a doubt the worst customer service that I have ever encountered. When they make a mistake they will never admit it saying that they reviewed their cameras (which is a lie) and then they do not even attempt to correct it. From what I have ascertained from several phone calls over the last two weeks is that this is policy and procedures from Athen's upper management to never service their customers. I get a strong feeling that they believe that they are the " ONLY GAME IN TOWN" and you just have to suffer. They seem to have forgotten that we are the ones who pay their hefty paychecks. Pricing was a bit high and the pick up price is included plus tack on extra days if you keep containers. Was not expecting these charges.

Where do I begin. Customer service is the WORST here. If you call in to make a payment but want a get a fee waived, get ready to get transferred and wait another 30 mins on hold for someone else to help, and if you wanna speak to someone about a temp bin rental, get ready to get transferred to another rep for another 30 min hold. This call center is ridiculous! Shouldn't all the customer service representatives be able to know their products and processes to assist ? That's bad customer service!! Now onto the next issue. Drivers reporting service and KNOWING THEY DID NOT SERVICE! I had to call twice and both times was told drivers serviced and they absolutely did not!! I'm going to complain to the city and hopefully when it's time to give out contracts..we are all aware of who is getting "donations " and why contracts are being awarded! I have had service for a trash bin since Nov 2019 and been ripped off with billing by charging me for months without even servicing my address for a 4 yard bin service. i am charged for service, the stinger. I spoke to Darlene from the billing department who lies to customers and even told me that she suspended my account, mean time it wasnt so i got charged for the next five months without service. and now they want me to pay for it. read more

Not only have we always been happy with our service at our residence.... I have a son who has Autism and has been fascinated with waiting outside every Friday to greet our trash man and say hello. He can usually make it home in time to see at least one can get dumped after school. Last month I reached out to Athens to see if we could visit for a tour. I was put in touch with Freddy Torres who went above and beyond. Not only agreeing to a tour but made it extra special by providing him with a goodie bag, let him get into the drivers seat, explained how things work, let him blow the horn, introduced him to all the staff, and really made an impact on my sons life! I can only hope that Freddy and Mark who also attended this very special tour know how very special that was to a child who idolizes them and has a dream to work for Athens one day. My son was so elated and proud that he was given this opportunity... He's actually dressing up as Freddy Torres for Halloween and plans to visit the site and deliver goodies for Halloween in appreciation for the kindness they showed a boy who had his dream not only met but exceeded!
