At one time this probably was a decent, if not very good, practice. At this point, I really can't recommend it. Firstly, the doctor isn't taking any new patients. He hasn't for years, apparently. There are a two NPs who do accept patients. I don't object to a nurse practitioner being part of my health care team, but I'm not comfortable being unable to access a doctor at all. Secondly, and strangely, I haven't been able to get the wellness visit that my insurance covers as part of preventative care. Before I can get a wellness visit, I have to pay for a consultation with the NP (Ms. Hollet, in my case), who will determine whether or not I need a wellness visit. She's never recommended one. She has also never recommended a mammogram. Even though I'm closing in on 60, she also hadn't recommended any other screening tests such as colonoscopy, bone density, etc. Once, some bloodwork was prescribed, and my blood calcium barely topped the normal range. She did recommend that I adopt a low calcium diet, even though I'm post-menopausal, and don't take Ca supplements. My rheumatologist declared this to be one of the stupidist thing she'd ever heard. I started going there because it was the first primary care practice I called that was accepting patients. Unfortunately, finding a PCP in this town is difficult, and without one, I can't get the above-mentioned screening tests that somebody my age needs. read more
