This is the type of place you can tell locals have been going to for a long time. It has a cozy and welcoming vibe. I appreciated that there were lunch specials that included a half grinder and minestrone soup or salad for $14. My friend said the soup was pretty good and very tomato forward. I enjoyed the salad, it was basic but you could tell the blue cheese dressing was homemade and it was very good. I got a cold cut grinder and it was pretty tasty. I always enjoy marinara with my grinders but for $4 that wasn't going to happen. The sandwich only includes a few slices of meat but for lunch it totally works and I just ate half with double the meat. My friend got the ham grinder and enjoyed hers. I was recommended from a fellow Coworker to try this place out. They say they're famous for the Grinders. I stepped in and was helped right away. Helped myself to a booth in the corner and was greeted by the server. He's actually the son to the owner of the place. I knew to get the grinders but I asked him. What would you recommend? He said the obvious Grinders but he said if you're really hungry and want something I personally think everyone should get. Get the Baked Spaghetti. A bit pricey yes but worth it. I asked "should I add the mushrooms and/or meat balls"? He said don't add the extras. The dish itself is perfect. He recommended the side to be the salad with the homemade dressing from Grandma herself. Was not disappointed. The dish itself had a nice cheese crust that was still bubbling from the spaghetti sauce. Came in from what I believe is a cast iron bowl. Can't really go too deep with the spaghetti. Best way to explain it is that if you had good spaghetti. The experience will be the same. Only different is the cheese that covers the whole spaghetti. That right there sold me. I would cut pieces of the cheese to serve with the spaghetti. You can mix yes, but cutting it and then pair it with the spaghetti was good. Had a great time. After the dish. I went up to pay. Maybe because I was in a suit and had a great time with the server/son of the business. The owner came out to say hi. Great hospitality. Truly a family owned business. Being unfamiliar with Auburn, my family and I did a hurried search for a dinner location when we came across Athens Pizza & Pasta. Upon walking in, I was impressed by how attentive the hostess and servers were. We were seated instantly, and the server was ready to take our order as soon as we were ready. Appetizers and drinks came out with hardly a wait. The place (including bathrooms) was clean, and the decor was pleasant. The spaghetti is delicious, as was the baked ravioli. The beef gyro left something to be desired, and I would not order this again. The best thing we ate was the Baklava sundae. It was the perfect end to our meal. First off, I'm not sure how you could be treated better than you are at Athens Pizza. Every person I've encountered there makes me feel genuinely valued as a customer, and that does not happen everywhere. The service is consistently friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The food is remarkable. The grinders (sub sandwiches) are unbelievably good--I usually get the Clubhouse, and it's always awesome. The lasagna is phenomenal, and I've never had a bad salad there. I started going here in high school in the 80s. Today was my last time. I don't know the code for ordering pizza anymore. This has happened a few times throughout the years, but the last 4 visits did me in. I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza with light BBQ sauce on top. There was no sauce on top 3 times in a row. This time I asked for a little sauce on top. Maybe saying it differently will help. We opened the box at home and I just don't know what to say. I don't understand. We each got a piece and used paper towels to sop up the BBQ sauce. We couldn't get enough off it to make it edible. We threw it away. We absolutely love Athens in Auburn and began coming here around the mid-80's. Athens is owned and run by a wonderful family. My husband and I have eaten most items on their menu including their pizzas but our favorite items are their pepperoni grinders and their Cannelloni with meatballs. Now if you like really good pepperoni, this grinder will probably make you a believer. They split one of their long french rolls lengthwise and on one side layer the pepperoni, the other half layer the provolone and toast it so the cheese is melted nicely and the pepperoni comes out hot and crispy on the edges. Once it's out of the oven they spread plenty of mayo on the grinder, add fresh sliced lettuce and a few sprinkles of Italian vinaigrette dressing and close it up and cut it in two. Guess it isn't rocket science but honestly, they not only smell delicious but they are that good. The other dish we love is Athen's canneloni with meatballs. They bake the pasta tubes filled with ground beef, cheeses and the best seasonings covered in a red sauce. We usually get our food to go, so this dish is baked in a covered round foil pan and is always piping hot when we get it home. We always get two green side salads and like others have said, Athens bleu cheese dressing is quite good. Other items we've tried over time are their bbq ribs with spaghetti w/meat sauce on the side. I never would have thought bbq ribs and spaghetti would go together but the combo really does work well. Of course, their spaghetti and meatballs with mushrooms is always good. I do wish they would sautee the mushrooms but they serve them fresh in the sauce. Love their minestrone, their cheese bread and the Village salad and the Greek vegetable salad with Kalamata olives and Feta. One more thing, the Contoravdis family who own Athens have always given back to our community. They provide Thanksgiving meals from their restaurant and managed to do this after the restaurant had the electrical fire and they were closed for almost a year and a half. The family received support from the city of Auburn during that time and allowed to use the Auburn Community Center to serve these meals. Private companies also provided assistance by providing refrigeration trucks. I don't always have things like this to mention in a yelp review but I like this hard working family, and of course we love their food. read more

I hate that I didn't get pictures! I walked in to order and I was greeted by staff at the counter as well as staff from the kitchen. I ended up taking the advice of staff and added feta and jalapenos to my BBQ Chicken pizza; it smelled so amazing on the way home I don't know how I made it without digging in on the ride back. The chicken pieces were pretty large and tasty. I also ordered the pepperoni and I was given a free baklava! Great little spot in Auburn. I hope they stay around for another generation. I'm a pizza EATER & this pizza is substantial; I normally order 1-2 larges (or 2 mediums) from other chains, but 2 smalls from here with decent fresh toppings were just enough for myself, another adult, & teen. TLDR: Food: Good, Service: Good, Cost: Reasonable, Verdict: Try it if you are in Auburn. This is a local gem of a restaurant and you should come try it out. Certainly not the most authentic Greek/Italian combo restaurant in King County but easily the best option in Auburn and certainly the one that will leave you feeling cared about. I have never seen a community embrace a business like the did to this one when they had the misfortune of a fire. The people of Auburn have spoke and their rally cry felt like "Give me Pasta of Give me Death or at the very least Gyros." I have gotten to go dinner from this place more times than I can count and they are never disappointing. Ambiance: The casual ambiance and familiar vibe are exactly what you want in a local place like this one. I cannot speak highly enough about the atmosphere of this place. It is remodeled now after the fire but it still has all the charm of the old place but with a nice new coat of paint. Food: The pasta and the Greek food are equally good with the possibility that the Greek side of things is slightly better. I have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered but I will say that the containers for to go items sometimes have let me down. Service: I usually ordered to go and so I cannot speak to how service is if you sit down but I do know that their phone etiquete and in person hosts are pleasant and competent. read more
