I've had a very frustrating experience with Athens Family Practice. The older lady sitting on the right when you check in is consistently rude to patients. I've personally watched her speak disrespectfully not only to people checking in, but also to some of the employees. When you're already coming to a doctor's office stressed or not feeling well, the last thing you want is to be greeted with that kind of attitude. Their appointment scheduling also needs serious improvement. I was told there was an opening, got scheduled, and then when I showed up they told me the appointment was actually for a completely different day and time. That kind of mix-up wastes people's time and shouldn't be happening at a medical office. To make things even worse, they later told me I had "rescheduled too many times" and that they were considering dropping me as a patient -- which was extremely frustrating considering the scheduling confusion on their end in the first place. Unfortunately, the care itself didn't feel much better. It often seemed like the doctors were just trying to put a temporary bandage on issues instead of really figuring out what's going on and helping fix the problem. Overall, the front desk professionalism, scheduling system, and quality of care all need major improvement. Patients deserve to feel respected and confident in the care they're receiving, and that just wasn't my experience here. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this office. Office staff and clinical staff. I have been to the walk in clinic there several times and have always received the best of care. I also use them as my primary care and feel heard. My Dr takes the time to listen to me and not in and out. I don't ever feel like just another number. I feel like a patient! read more

As a veteran i was sent to Athens family practice for my primary care dr instead of driving to Knoxville VA. After a year of seeing doctors and fighting with them over billing i went back to driving a hour to the va. Now they sent me to collections because there billing department can't do something as simple as bill the Va. I've called and called Athens family practice telling them they need to bill the Va and over and over again I'm told we are so sorry we will fix this and a month later bill is in the mail. I work in the medical field, so I am normally opposed to writing bad reviews for places because I understand what the field is like. On the other hand, I know what it's like and what to expect for care. I have always had good experiences with Dr. Byrd, so this review isn't for the whole office but for one physician. I sent my 18 year old, extremely anxious daughter to Kevin Dansby for a new patient appointment. Her first one as an adult, going on her own. (My mistake I guess) She's been sick all her life and nobody can figure out why. The doctor I work for is a specialist in another field so we can't see her for primary care, but they looked over her symptoms and wrote down some labs that were suggested to aid in her care and help find a diagnosis for my daughter. My daughter went in to see Mr. Dansby and told him all of her symptoms and history, and he ignored most of what she said and focused on one small portion of her complaints, which wasn't even her main complaint. He was rude and sharp with her. When she talked about me and the Doctor I work for and asked about doing the suggested labs for her, he proceeded to laugh at her and replied with "I don't take orders from other Doctors and I certainly don't listen to mom's." I am beyond angry with this situation. I talked to my daughter (who was in tears on the phone) who informed me about her visit. A GOOD Doctor listens to what other doctors have to say and takes their input. They may have a difference of opinion on what may be the case, but many smart brains are better than one. After all, it's about finding a correct diagnosis, not putting our pride and arrogance above all. He's not running all the labs, just a portion of them, and not addressing the main symptoms. He made her feel small. A doctors office should be a safe place, not a place to be laughed at or made feel bad. I am asking the advice of other doctors to find her a new doctor. It would not have hurt him to listen to her as a person, and to run the requested labs to help find a correct diagnosis. It would have helped my daughter. My family and I have been going this facility for quite some time now, it was great at first with fast and efficient service. But as time went on it gotten worse, when making an appointment there wasn't anything available until months later and when we get to our appointment the wait is long but the check up is short. I don't question the doctors but they really just ask a couple of questions and just provide you some medicine if you're concerned about something, I wish there were more test done or more care for patient since some of these diagnosis are just not a slap on the wrist. These incidents are not a one time thing as it seems to be a reoccurring service now. It's also extremely hard to get in contact with our family doctor when we simply just need a refill on medication or just simple concerns that doesn't require a visit. When we call the office to leave a message for the doctor's nurse they don't reach back until weeks later or not even at all. Extremely disappointed on what this facility has become. read more

The doctor is fine. However, the clinic seems poorly managed. I went for an appointment and there was no record of the appointment. I went for lab work and there were no lab orders in their system. My prescriptions were sent to the wrong pharmacy. I placed calls to the physician's nurse and my calls were never returned. Life is to short to deal with this level of incompetence. read more

I have had terrible experience. Been waiting on them to retrieve records from other doctor in order to get medical supply's! Over a month later, and I getting them the records myself, I'm told I have to see the doctor in the other office to get my cpap supplies. Waited on hold every time I call. I will take my family of six elsewhere! read more
