Impromptu dinner for 6 - ordered three entrees, a Greek salad, extra falafel and hummus. More than enough food, and delicious. Been coming here for 25 years. LOVE THIS PLACE. Front and back equally welcoming. Dine in or take out, you can't go wrong. Super casual. OPA! read more

Try this place for awesome Greek food! The staff were super friendly and helpful as it was our first time in. Everything was flavorful and delicious. We are already planning to come back to try other dishes, it sounds like you can't go wrong at this place based on what we heard from some of the regulars stopping by. read more

Fast and friendly service is the order of the day in this spartan cafe. The front man was pretty out there which made it a fun local experience. The building and cafe have seen better days, but they are doing a brisk trade and the food is generous and tasty. We both had specials and the plates were full. Bring your appetite if you order a special plate or grab a takeout box off the counter to save some for later. read more

Athens Cafe - Kebab plate - Greek Near Me - Robbinsdale, Minnesota

Simple Food. Done well. Great Service, real people. Neighborhood fav! For over 25yrs!

We ordered 2 Gryo Meals (includes fries & a drink). The Gryo meat with Lettuce, Onion, Tomato and tzatziki sauce is always so fresh & fries are always phenomenal! We also got a bag of pita bread, Garlic Hummus and Tabbouleh. I love getting their garlic hummus and using it as a veggie dip. Service is always fast and the kitchen staff is also very nice. The interior could use some new paint, a good cleaning & some updated decor but we usually order our food to go so it is not really too much of an issue. We love coming here and will definitely be back. read more

I've been coming here for years. I grew up in Crystal right across the bridge and the food is always phenomenal. The portions are large, food is the best, I've tried other gyro places since I've moved from Crystal but I always come back. The people at the counter are always kind and it's a wonderful small business. Absolutely recommend! read more

Athen's Cafe has been around for decades, but frankly, it looks like it's been around since "The Odyssey" was written in the seventh century, BC by that Homer guy (the one before Homer Simpson). Or perhaps that was when they last remodeled the place and it was opened even earlier. I have to get this part out of the way first: This is the saddest, least appealing restaurant interior that I've ever seen in the United States. The food photos on the wall are old and faded and the prices were removed years ago. I don't even WANT to know what the kitchen looks like. Athen's has no website. It's page on Facebook contains a menu from 2013 and the "Daily Specials" board in the restaurant has not changed since the Vietnam War ended. Also, this will be a bit tricky to find the first time you go. It's address is West Broadway in Robbinsdale, but you have to go to the BACK of the two-sided mall because it's facing Bottineau Blvd (which has way too many vowels) and it's off 41st Avenue. It could be a CIA front, but that's just a guess. OK. Let's move on. What propels this place from a one-star to a four-star rating is that the food is consistently excellent, the portion quantity is huge, and the prices are low. The gyros are excellent and the hummus is five-star quality. The salads have fresh lettuce and I appreciate the variety and freshness of veggies they include, even though it's a side-salad. The pita bread is soft and fresh. I have ordered the combo meals and they can easily feed three people. I advise you to order light because the quantities are surprisingly large. So despite what this place looks like (and what the FDA might find), the food really is good and I've never had any issues with it. If your partner is a clean-freak, I recommend take-out! In fact, if you were having a party, this food would be a great choice because it's actually plated very well. I have been coming to Athens frequently for at least 20 years, and do highly recommend it. I wish instead of a tip jar, they had a remodeling jar. I definitely would contribute to that. read more

Consistently top notch. Service is very quick. it has tables etc. But it's primarily for take out. A family business for decades.

Dude..... Everytime I come to town, my friend and I get some delicious Gyros from here. This shopping plaza Greek place is the very definition of a delicious dive! The gyro platters are yum yum yummy! I always get some extra pepper and extra Tzatziki sauce. The owner gives my friend occasional discount coupons ! read more

Super fast and flavorful takeout! The line is long but it moves very quickly Ordered the two meat gyro of chicken and lamb which comes with a choice of rice, hummus or fries. Picked the rice. The meal also includes salad, pita bread and a drink from the soda fountain. Food is very flavorful and oh, what a good deal for $11.86. It's a huge serving that's good for 2 people, and since I'm just myself it's a meal that stretches out for a couple of days. The authentic Greek salad, has all the works... featuring tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, olives, Feta, oregano and olive oil. Opah! read more

Run here! Stop reading-go now! My friend got us a two person combo from here and it was INCREDIBLE!!! We loved all the different meats that came in it! The beef was probably my favorite and I really liked the chicken too. And the grilled onions! Yes please! The Greek salad was good-I would have liked more olives and I love olives so there are never enough. My husband loved the falafel and I didn't. Hummus was super duper creamy! So creamy-yummy! The baba ganoush was good and very smoky! They put them in styrofoam which I thought was weird but whatever. I'm looking forward to going back and getting some sandwiches. Stellar spot in Robbinsdale! read more

I frequent Athens Cafe to get the gyro lunch combo. I haven't tried much else, but the gyro combo is a large amount of food for $13. Sometimes I'll get half rice, half hummus to go with the lamb and chicken that comes with. The side salad, pita and a drink also come with the combo meal. The chicken and lamb are great, the rice is a little on the dry side but still good. The pita is fairly thin and can end up breaking if you put too much in. Service is good, I think the owner recognizes me and is prompt on preparing my to-go order. Ambiance is what I would expect, although the restaurant is not up to date, it's fine to stop in and eat at a table. They have lots of items for purchase such as baklava and homemade hummus with different ingredients. Worth stopping in! read more

Athens Cafe - Gyro combo meal. Lamb, chicken, rice, hummus, pita, pop, salad. - Greek Near Me - Robbinsdale, Minnesota

Yum yum yum. This is my favorite place to get Greek in the cities. It's a total hole in the wall, inside an old business strip type building. All of the employees are flirty and effortlessly kind in that hallmark Mediterranean way - it's my FAVORITE! The gyro is phenomenal. The stuffed grape leaves are okay, but I've got high standards for those. Truthfully, the best stuffed grape leaves you'll find are Holy Land ones - get them at Whole Foods or go to Holy Land in Minneapolis. I have yet to go, but have never been disappointed by their food. Athens is the best. read more

Styrofoam takeout boxes aren't the most glamorous. But you hum-must admit, it's really the food inside that counts... :) I had the Gyro Combo with Marinated Chicken and Lamb Gyro Meat, and a side of Hummus This dish also came with pitas, a salad, and hummus. It was all good, but the meat and hummus... Greek-straordinary The gyro meat was so fresh, and the chicken was moist, flavorful, and marinated with an insane blend of spices; it has permanent space reserved in my memory. The hummus appeared really liquid, so I was skeptical. Until it was all gone. Oh my goodness, that stuff was fantastic! On the pita and for dipping the meat. Wow. Athens cafe is little, but they pack a punch for a low price. All hummus-lovers and meat maniacs need to try it read more

Great bang for your buck! You get so much with the entree. I didn't take a photo of everything that came with my order, but it came with a drink and pitas too. So delicious. So freakin good. Best spinach pie I've ever had. Grape leaves are perfect. Falafel and hummus are excellent. I'm in love!

Not impressed with this place. The owners/ and staff were very friendly but the food missed the mark. It just wasn't the same as the many Greek food places that I have been too. But it wasn't terrible so don't be too turned off. Go and check it out for yourself. It's a fast food place. read more

One of my favorite eateries in the Twin Cities. Also, my go-to place when entertaining. The Mediterranean Platter for 4 (hint - it serves six easily - especially when you order a side of the great pita chips) is a terrific combination of all things good about Greek food. Staff is friendly with just the right amount of attitude, and their humus is second to none. read more

Been here twice now. Family orders both times.Ordered the chicken gyros platter for four of us last time. The food was so much and it was real. It was fresh. The chicken is real chicken cooked on a grill and seasoned in I think cumin and mild spices. Tasty. Really tasty. This time I ordered the same plus a lamb and chicken combo. Again very yummy. I also got more hummos than before because it tastes so fresh. I even liked their salad W feta, cucumbers. Flavorful. That 8.99 platter can easily feed two. We just ordered in to go boxes so we would have extra for tomorrow. Hope people check it out. It's close to North Memorial, I have to swing by there every so often. Nice to have a really tasty place that is so affordable. read more

This place is a great ratio of good food for a good price. We both got gyro combos. Mine was with fries and my partner's was with rice. Both sides were great. We also got some hummus too in the side and it has a good fresh taste and was probably better than the Big Dog hummus maker in town. Both combos came with a bit side salad with tasty dressing and components. The meat itself tasted fresh and what I would expect. The beef gyro tasted like the sort of beef gyro you'd get anywhere, which is good in my book. It also came with a curried chicken gyro type meat too that was unique and worth getting. It added a nice twist to the food. All in all, this place rules. read more

Tasty gyros and yummy cheeseburgers in a quaint location! We LOVE it!! Conveniently located in central Robbinsdale. Lots of 5 star reviews... either they're fake or the people eating here have zero knowledge about Greek food. The hummus is super runny. The guy serving the food, handling forks and touching your bread has a fungus or eczema on his hands. Super nice guy but still... Now the food... It's bland and horrible. Nothing tastes even halfway close to being authentic. read more

Great fresh gyros. That's all you need to know. I prefer the sauce on the side with no onions but you know, whatever floats your boat. A little birdie told me that I was able to get the kids meal version of the gyro too, which offers the same amount of fries and a bit less meat but I mean if your a small eater like me, this is more than enough food. Plus you can't beat paying $2 less than regular for it. If you want to be adventurous and have a little bit more for your buck, get the gyro value combo. Same thing as a gyro kids meal but more meat and veggies. Both meals come with a drink and this place opens late! read more

Spectular I have been coming here at least once a month ( using my metro dining club card) for years now. I'm always up for trying new things but no need once I fell in love with the gyro dinner. I skip the hummus, rice, fries option and go right for an extra house salad with their amazing dressing. The guys in the kitchen are helpful and funny... And the gal behind the register is always super sweet It's a small cafe/diner. A real find for the area. I really appreciate the fast service and great quality of meat. The vegetables seem like they are right from the farmers market... Fresh, crisp., flavorful. If you are in the area give it a try. You can't go wrong. read more

Solid hole in the wall at a strip mall, some hits and some misses average to a 3 star rating. Tried a gyro/curry chicken combo with hummus and the kofta plate with fries. Both combos are served with salad. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, moist and deserves at least 4/5 stars. The gyro meat was average and a bit on the greasy side. Hummus was okay, slightly below average. As a reference point, Merhaba is the gold standard for hummus based on our palettes. Most disappointing was the kofta. It was overly dry, no seasoning and tasted like burned hamburgers. Fries are average. Overall, some good options if you're in the neighborhood but not worth an intentional drive. read more
