Definitely a hole in the wall, but that's a good sign. Seating for 13 but only tables for 10; the extra 3 are for those waiting, I suppose. First things first, the fries are excellent-- they are dusted with something before frying, maybe a light cheese. I would have guessed panko if this wasn't Greek food. I'm not sure, but it makes them different and it makes them tasty! On to the gyro. It was surprisingly hotter (temperature, not spice) than expected. Especially since it had been sitting a couple minutes while I was munching on fries. I would prefer if the pita were slightly toasted (not the case here), but overall the gyro was pretty good. I'm not convinced that the gyro meat is sliced...it looked a little processed to me, but I'd still come back and eat another. On to the Baklava. Comes with four pieces which is more than I need, but this is food for the Gods, so I'm not complaining. And it leaves three more pieces for a midnight snack later. Worth a visit in itself. Overall a great experience. Cheap eats, delicious food. I've had better gyros elsewhere, but the food here holds its own. read more

I wasn't sure about Pita King, looks a little sketch, however those are usually the best kind of places. Turned out their 4 1/2 star rating was spot on. Their chicken had amazing flavor and their fries were perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken pita comes with a very good Tzatziki sauce. However I did not like the raw onions, I think it would have been better if they were grilled. read more

It's official! Pita King is in the houuuussssee!!! Aka the Seward neighborhood. With a fresh coat of paint they are now ready for action. I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner Friday night and remembered this gem that is now in its 5th month of operation. I walked the block and a half to order a chicken shawarma with fries and baklava. It took about 7-10 minutes waiting and then my to-go order was served. They have space for about 8-10 people but my dog was waiting at home soooo priorities. I opened up my box at home and found a delicious basket of perfectly crisp fries along with my nicely cut into two portions. If I hadn't been the ravenous person I was, I might have saved leftovers. The chicken was deliciously seasoned with a solid amount of tahini sauce (my fav). I didn't detect any cucumbers but there were tomatoes and lettuce included. It was sooooooo good. I ate it all and two pieces of the baklava which were deliciously prepared and had pistachios crumbled on top. For a girl who LOVES Holy Land, this is a nice spot to have so close by. My total order was around $11 but you can easily spend less by just getting the sandwich or pita. And with their late hours, it's good pre night out food as well. Back in the 80's this place was a ice cream location. So I just happen to stop in for a Philly Cheesesteak and fries, plus Baklava. Ummm Ummm everything was very good. I ordered mine to go and it just took a few minutes. I will definitely come back for more food here. I love the bread on my sandwich and the dessert was sooo delicious and filling. I've been here a few times now- I've had the gyro (great) chicken platter (yum) and Chicken shawarma with fries: It's well-seasoned shawarma, but the veggies were honestly pretty over-cooked on this one. To be fair, I walk home with the food every time, so the heat probably processed the vegetables a bit longer, since it's foil-wrapped tightly in pita (with tahini). The French fries are really great and crisp, with a salty/sweet seasoning. It's cheap, and plentiful Middle Eastern and American selections- Friendly people at the counter, too. The food, of course, is good, but more than anything, I appreciated the hospitality! The lady who took our order greeted us with a big bright smile. I have lived the Pita King for a long time, but it must have changed owners. The food was awful. The falflafels were the size of a small walnut, the meat was not the type that was carved off the spit like it use to be , it was prefab pressed meat that I could have bought in a kit at the grocery store and the Hummus is made from a powered mix, bland and tasteless. I do not think this is because of Covid folks, something has really changed here. This is my second time here at this unpretentious stand (at the site of the old Franklin Freeze which reopened in partnership with Pita King). The food is ample and delicious served cheerfully and quickly by Louie and his family (Palestinians who were living in Jordan I believe). The gyros were juicy and flavorful as were the falafel. The falafel sandwich is my current favorite. I hate dried out falafel. These were moist and filled up the pita roll well. Even the fries were tasty and flavorful. Pita King is my neighbor and has been for 3.5 years. The ownership must have switched because the food is awful now. Before, they homemade almost everything (most importantly the falafel was homemade and fried fresh, and the gyro meat cooked on the rotating thing & sliced off). Not anymore. We got a gyro platter and a falafel platter (the falafel platter isn't on the menu and we had to ask multiple times to make one - It's literally the gyro platter but with falafel instead!). The gyro is all pre-made, frozen and warmed up on a grill (it was perfectly shaped, no rough edges). The falafel were super small (they were really big before) and were clearly bought pre-made in large batches then re-fried. The little salad they included was completely doused in cheap thousand island dressing. The rice may have been made by hand, but wasn't very good. To top it all off, the hummus is POWDERED! They use a powder and put water and oil on it (vegetable oil, definitely not olive oil). I'm sad that we lost the old Pita King. It wasn't perfect before, but they had amazing gyro, falafel, and homemade tabouli (they don't give tabouli at all now). Now all of this is cheap, highly processed ingredients I could get at any regular grocery store for less than half the price. I won't be spending my money here again. read more
