When I relocated to the area for work, I came down for 1 day to find a rental and was able to find the perfect house for our family. The ladies helped me to get all my paperwork filled out and turned in just before closing down for the holidays. Over the past year I have had very friendly maintenance when work was needed to be done. The property company is always prompt and responsive. I am able to pay my rent online and have never had any issues. Now as I am coming to the end of my lease they are once again extremely helpful. Haven, the realtor, who is assigned to my property is very nice and easy to work with. I had a few questions regarding my lease and she was able to contact the owner and get back to me quickly and very professionally. I've been with At Home for two years in two different homes. The first year, the service was fine considering we didn't have many things break down. However, before our lease ran up, they sold our house to an individual which made getting back our security deposit a month-long hassle. The second home, ran by a different property manager, Brad, was much worse. The house was not cleaned when we moved in. There were still cereal remnants in the kitchen cabinets and it took three girls and their moms two days to get it to "move-in" ready. The house had also not been updated in many years with many safety hazards. It took At Home over a month to get five or six of the items done on our list. I know there are several people who work at At Home Properties, and I'm sure they are not all as completely INCOMPETENT at their jobs as Haven Scarmardo is. Haven is a disgrace to this industry. Haven should quietly walk away and let someone who knows how to do this job take over for her. Haven is pitiful at communication - EVERYONE I speak to about her is disgusted with her and her complete lack competence. The maintenance people can't stand her because she is so bad at communicating what the tenants need. She pays bills late to them which makes them less eager to work for her. The utility place I had to go to because she failed her job from the beginning in providing accurate information for where tenants are to go to set up utilities stated that they too have had issues with Haven. I just finished my lease with At Home Properties, and my best advice is to not use them. The staff seemed nice in person, but whenever there was a problem they solved it by sending us a huge fee in mail. They were never willing to discuss the fees with us, and often would not return our messages. When it was time for us to move out this past year, we cleaned the house very vigorously. Four girls lived in the house, so you can imagine how spotless the house was. Even the oven and fridge sparkled. However, recently we got our deposit back and it was a huge insult. After talking with the new property manager (which changes insanely often), she explained the fees in a demeaning manor. Saying that she had a really hard time charging us because we were such great tenants. Excuse me.. then why were we charged over $700 in fees? Overall, don't use At Home Properties. The management changes so often, and they don't even tell you that your house manager has changed. My property managers did horrible jobs of calling back, and they were often very unprofessional when dealing with us. While we were college students, they had no reason to treat us the way they did or charge us the insane fees without a reasonable explanation. Don't use At Home Properties. read more

at home properties is probably the WORST business venue i have associated with my entire life. they were horrible with maintenance requests. i lived in a dulex while under their management and numerous times our neighbors filled out a maintenance request, and they came to my home and did the replacement maintenance when we never even needed it. they charged us for it anyways even after notifying them it wasn't requested/needed. there was a point where someone ran over the water meter in the ground with their truck and it busted a water pipe underneath the meter box. i think it was someone random, not even a tenant, and they ended up charging us. they charged us an extra $400 pet fee when there was only one dog, which the pet deposit was paid for. they never informed us ahead of time when they were going to do walk thru's for future tenants. when i moved in, one of the previous tenants stayed and renewed his lease for another year seeing as he was a friend of mine. at home NEVER came in for maintenance, carpet cleaning, or damage repairs prior to moving in even though it was requested. they ended up charging me for repairs and cleaning that was never done by them that were required. they charged me for taking MY OWN ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHT BULBS that i replaced their bulbs with. they charged me for not returning the house key, that i paid out of my own pocket for a copy, since they never provided me with one upon moving in. they charged me for 'not putting a new air filter' in for the a/c, for the next tenants. which i assumed was some thing they were responsible for, not me. our backyard fence was in horrible condition and our dog continuously escaped the back yard numerous times and ran free around college station, which eventually the police and dog pound got involved. the previous tenants were cigarette smokers and left cigarette butts all over the front yard and driveway, which they charged ME for instead of taking it from the previous tenants deposit. due to them being smokers, they charged US, not the previous tenants, a fee for smoking in the house AND a fee for repainting the walls due to 'cigarette smoke'. none of us during my 1 yr lease there were smokers. they claimed we made late payments on rent and didnt pay late fees which according to my bank statements, it was all paid on time. i feel like they intentionally held on to rent payments, just to accrue late charges and then bring it up and throw it in my face AFTER the lease ended. i moved out of their property about a week and a half before the lease ended because my new lease in a different location had started. well the other 2 roommates stayed until the lease was completely over. unfortunately, those 2 didnt clean everything they were responsible for, nor did they move all of their property out. due to that, all 3 of us was charged for not cleaning, charged for at home having to throw away the left behind property, and charged us simply bc property was left behind. i attemped to speak to our leasing agent and the owner of the company about working out a possible deal, or 'plea bargain' if you will, for me seperately seeing as i was not responsible for the charges ater moving out, and wasnt responsible for any of the nonsense fees and repairs accrued while living there. the 2 individuals literally, laughed in my face and just flashed the lease at me claiming 'i signed a contractual lease' and im accountable for everything they charged. at the end of the day, that makes very much sense. but i feel they intentionally took advantage of us because they knew we were young college students, that were still uneducated and inexperienced on this type of situation. now, i have a $3700 charge being reported to my credit and i can't do anything about it. ive tried disputing the issue through credit bureaus but have had no luck. unfortunately, this dilemma has came back to haunt me in many ways. i would NEVER recommend this company to ANYONE. their services was more than horrible, they lied to us on many different occasions, and was only concerned with profit. they arent even part of the BBB and that says ALOT. even property OWNERS who let athome properties manage their property, highly dislike their service. renting through athome was a nightmare that is still haunting me, and i regret every last second of dealing with them. by far, the worst experience ever in my life. Definitely the worst PM I've ever used. The only time they reply to your emails is when they think you did something wrong, and they'll try anything to get more money out of you. Moved into the house with no light bulbs in any of the fixtures, then they tried to charge almost $100 dollars for not replacing a few when we moved out. Also tried charging for leaving some big items for street side pickup, which is both a city service and OK'd by the homeowner. Also they tried charging us for having doors in the attic? We never even went in the attic during the year we lived there. The homeowner said we were the best tenants he'd ever had, but miss Jana Lane absolutely abhorred us. We also went 2 months into winter only using our fireplace because our new heater wouldn't work and the 6 work orders we put in "went missing." I would use anybody else in College Station. The only things that worked were fixed by the homeowner when we called him since nobody else would respond. read more

I wished I had did my research before I leased a unit through at home properties. First all the unit was INFESTED with ANTS which I had to pay a professional exterminate. I tried to explain to Jana that the unit needed more than treatment it was a problem that had not been addressed. I think they assumed I was naive college student because they just blew me off. I went 2 weeks without a working stove, 6 days without a working refrigerator and 5 days without air conditioning. I never received reimbursement for my lost of food or offered a hotel stay. It's over 100 degrees in TX. When I complained I was told the previous tenants didn't have this problem and you need to read your lease. However, my come back was that's why no one stays beyond a year's lease. I did read my lease, and Oh, it gets better, I found out that they were watering the lawn on my dime. The final straw was I requested a final work through on 3 days before my lease ended because btw the move-out check list is a joke. This list should be provided to you when you move-in so you know what they charge the previous tenants for but didn't repair for the next tenant. Melissa cancelled on me because I wrote my complaint in an email using bold, italics, capitalization, and the acronym BS. So I had to seek legal advice so I can be reimbursed for some of the cost for being without a refrigerator and air conditioning and exterminating their ANT problem. read more

I would give them 0 stars but I had to give a rating so 1 star will have to do. We recently rented out a townhouse. The place was ok and in an ideal area. However, each townhouse is assigned to an individual and unfortunately our "help" , Brad, wasn't very friendly. More than half of the time Brad never responded to us. Our fridge was broken and the repairman recommended a new one but we never saw it. Also, Brad was well aware of our move in date but had nothing done when we moved in. The painters came on our move in day so all of our stuff had to go in the middle of the room. The carpet was terrible and the air didn't work downstairs. The bathroom sinks would leak underneath the cabinets with the smallest amount of water. The townhouse itself was decent overall but Brad was horrible with returning calls and fixing anything we needed done. Would I recommend them to anyone I cared about? Not at all unless you are dealing with someone other than Brad! read more

I really can't say anything good about this PM. Unprofessional comes to mind. They pretty much treated my wife and I like children when we signed the lease, promised all sorts of great things and told us how clean and well kept their properties are. When we opened the door to move in - disgusting. Nothing had been cleaned, not even vacuumed or swept. Not to mention the carpet must be about 10 years old by the looks of it. Had to have carped shampooed while we were moving in (wet for a week) and spent at least two days just doing basic cleaning on top of unpacking. Don't expect to get things fixed either, luckily I am fully capable of doing this myself. You can expect to be treated like a nuisance though so if that's your thing, great. Also, spent two days cleaning and getting carpet professionally cleaned on move out and still had "cleaning fees" taken out of security deposit. I know from personal experience they do not clean their properties before tenants take ownership, plus the place was spotless when we left! I have never had any deposit taken out by any of the many places I have rented from before because I take care of properties very well, in this case much better than we found it. Knowing the nature of this company, I even called the office requesting a move out walk-through with management and was refused. I now know why. I took many pictures and will be fighting these fees on my time now. Completely rediculous experience all together, do not use this PM if at all possible!! read more

At home is the WORST management company in bcs. I work for a realty firm in bcs and at home is well known as being incompetent and full of people who do not care. I wish I had known this information before I decided to rent a property from them. And don't think there is any way you will get even a good portion of your deposit back. I spent 3 days cleaning as well as had professionals clean all carpets and repaint all walls and still received less than half of my $1100 deposit from things such as an "o-zone cleanser" as well as over $100 bucks to turn on the power again in order to perform this o-zone cleaning. They also have people leave bogus reviews for them in order to boost their ratings so make sure to read all reviews. You will find most people have all the same problems such as bad service, slow responses, rude employees, and people being screwed out of deposits. DO NOT use at home. EVER. read more
