I have just recently paid off my old phone (IPhone 11 Pro Max) and was wondering if there was any way to purchase the 13 Pro Max and have it temporarily unlocked for the three months that I would be gone since I purchased a korean SIM card. A few months ago I spoke to a representative on the phone who let me know that this was possible. When I arrived at the store I was greeted kindly and Stacy let me know that unfortunately this was not the case. However, she let me know that TMobile does have an international plan where I would get 5GB of data and unlimited text internationally monthly for only a $15 Add on to my current plan. In the end, I decided to just purchase the iPhone13 Pro Max and do a $300 down payment, as a means to bring down my monthly payments while I'm gone. When Stacey brought out my new phone I noticed that she also brought out a $40 screen protector that I did not ask for and she never asked if I was interested in. At first I didn't think much of it but when she was about to charge me I asked her if this was included and she said "no." Again, I never asked nor even SAID I needed the protector. She then took it away and magically my total went down. She proceeded to ask me if I wanted to purchase their phone insurance to which I again said "No" to. A couple of minutes go by and she is setting up my phone. Mind you as someone who has worked customer service for over 8 years I had zero complaints about her service. She was nice, and tried making small talk with me as well, so no complaints there. But then she tells me "So I went ahead and put the insurance on your phone so that you are insured while you're in Korea, just give me a call when you return so we can cancel it." This made me kind of upset, since I just told her that 1. I DID NOT WANT IT, 2. I'm a study abroad student who will not be working for 3 months... I don't need to be paying $75 per month while I am away I'm already paying $60. At that point it had been over an hour since the setup process takes some time and I had a bunch of errands to run, so I just figured I'd call TMobile later during the day and have it removed. AND THANK GOD I DID! When I called the customer service line a representative named Seth very graciously helped me out. When I let him know what happened he apologized and when I mentioned the $15 international plan he let me know that they actually had NOT signed me up for that plan, but instead for one where I could make International calls FROM the US to other countries. Which would have been incredibly unhelpful since I told them I needed data IN KOREA. So I would use the internet IN KOREA. If I had not made that call then I would have been totally screwed half way across the world in a country without any data/Wi-Fi or any way to get around.
