This Review pertains to the UHaul at this facility. I was asked by UHaul to review my experience here, positive or negative & so I said the Manager, Tom needed a lesson in PR (Public Relations). One day later TOM the manager over there CALLED MY PERSONAL PHONE & WAS YELLING ' I want to know WHY you said this about me?' WHOAH buddy hold on. If he had said, 'help me out, I was just wanting to know how I could do better'... I might have responded...but instead it was a combative & threatening approach so I said, 'Hey this is INAPPROPRIATE for you to call me & I am hanging up now' Heads up UHaul customers!! Do NOT be honest about your customer experience ...honesty could cause you grief . A lot of good it did but I reported it to UHaul Customer Relations. This is a review about renting U-Haul via Astoria Mini Storage. 'Almost 5 stars' Everything was executed via the U-Haul app - reservation, check in, payment, etc. I made a 'local' reservation for the big 26' truck - $40/day plus $1.70 or so per mile. After making the reservation, they'll send an email telling you what you're gonna need if you are picking up 'after hours', in my case 9am. In addition to drivers license, you need 2 of: passport, alt contact#1, Alt contact #2, copy of home lease agreement or proof of employer, all of which they will check. So I thought with my wife as alt contact and a passport i would be golden. Go to pick it up. Checking in, the app claims my wife's number is ineligible as I had included her info in the reservation (hint #1, do NOT include your spouses info in the reservation!!!) So, I wound up contacting online customer service. They went along with using my wife, but now that i've exited the app check-in i can no longer use my passport, which I had dug out of my huge pile of moving boxes. Luckily, my dear old 90 YO mom answered her phone, and without her hardly complaining about her health issues, I was cleared to go. Back to the app, it gives me the lockbox code for a stored key. Get in the truck - it's nice and clean! Verify the fuel level and mileage, now I'm a big-rig driver. Truck ran great! Great mirrors, nice amenities in the truck. So returning the truck - you're supposed to return with same fuel level (its not 'full', or at least mine wasnt) - and its hard to see how full the fuel level is while fueling, even if you on/off the dashboard. I wound up putting several gallons more than I needed to. I was returning at night, and it was hard finding a parking space, did the best i could. Now the VIDEO they ask you to watch made me think I needed to take a bunch of pictures showing mileage/fuel/cleanliness/where i parked etc, but the app just said 'share my location' and then went right to 'drop off the key'. The app never confirmed my return. But next morning I get a detailed receipt, and it was all good. So, the U-Haul app still has some bug-a-boos, but the Astoria mini storage did their part pretty well, I'd definitely rent from them again. read more

Don't store your belongings at Astoria Mini Storage. Unfortunately, I needed to rent sight unseen because I was not from the area and relied on information provided on U-Haul's website. There, the description of the facility said it's climate controlled. I'll save you the frustration of moving a truck full of stuff there only to discover that you have been misled. My unit was on the top floor of the main building, and I'm here to tell you that it is NOT climate controlled (CONTROLLED BY THE CLIMATE), maybe, but definitely not climate controlled by any mechanical means. Whether it's cold or hot outside, expect the same inside. Don't forget to take humidity under consideration (also falls under the definition of climate control) because there is no humidity control, either. If it's cold inside and you need to get work done, you will be in a cold nasty sweat because of it the humidity. It's just as miserable in the summer, and I don't know which is worse. You'd think a cold environment would be welcome if you have a lot of stuff to move around, but trust me -- because of the humidity it is not. Also , when I stopped in there a couple of months ago, I was gobsmacked by a heavy mildew odor. It isn't possible to comfortably get anything done under such miserable conditions. Protect your belongings as though they will be stored in a cold, damp basement. Next up is their janky frankenelevator that can only be operated by staff. It literally has green and red colored lights, a handle-type operating mechanism, and a wire cage door. Passengers not allowed. If I had known in advance that Astoria Mini Storage wasn't climate-controlled and didn't have a customer friendly elevator I never would have moved in. I was really unhappy about it. It is worth noting that if your unit is not accessible from outdoors, you will not be able to enter the building after 5pm M-F. On Saturday and Sunday they are open for a 4 hour window. If you have a 9-5 and busy weekends, these hours will be a deal breaker. I have since moved out, and I implore you avoid this place. read more

Horrible customer service, asked about availability of storage units, The guy who runs the place answered the phone and told me he was completely full and had NO WAY OF KNOWING when a unit would be available as it does not show in the system...( seems like a lie it is 2020 for f sake.) Then when i ask what time I should check back daily or something along the lines of that cause they DO NOT TAKE NAMES AND CALL BACK WHEN SOMETHING IS AVAILABLE, he says do not call to check back daily, they may or may not have one or two people leave a month so check back once a month.... So basically I was told play the lottery once a month in a phone call fashion and if ones available on my once a month phone call great!! but if not too bad please play again next month!!! Complete BS. DO NOT WASTE TIME EVEN CALLING THESE GOONS!!! read more

I had a friend rent a space that was too big for my things because a smaller unit was not available. 3 days later a smaller unit came available. I shifted my things to the smaller unit and they would not credit me back any of the fee for the larger unit. I expected to pay something but not the full $80. That is just greedy and not a fair way to do business. The hours are not convenient and they seem to think they are doing you a favor by letting you rent from them. They suck! read more

Was going to rent a unit here but encountered a very rude & unprofessional employee (Brian). Ended up not renting a unit due to the interaction of this employee. Found a place 100% better not only in service but the units were better and only $15 more then this place. read more
