Opened a loan with this bank and immediately regretted it. The website is a mess and unclear. Everything about their mobile banking system is dated and misleading. Tried to make a transfer and was shown I had a daily limit of $1k. Well that's not true, you need to wait over a week for the funds to settle before you can make any additional transfers. I called in to make a principal only payment only to find out that they actually never applied the additional payment to principal. Glad I checked. They reversed the wrong payment to keep the additional interest of the higher intended principal payment. Not to mention every time I call, I get the most rude people I have ever interacted with. Dolores especially. Find a different job. You are a disservice to the entire company. I will never bank here again and would suggest others avoid at all costs. read more

I am deeply disappointed with the lack of customer service and what appears to be very unethical banking methods displayed by ACU. I was informed via automated email that a small account I had there was going to be accruing a monthly "inactivity fee". I took the time to immediately call and find out what the process would be to close the account and was kindly advised of the remaining balance and to complete and mail in the closure form with the appropriate forms of identification. I completed this at the beginning of October and had still heard nothing 2 weeks later. My thought was that I'd receive a check for the balance and a letter of confirmation that it was closed. Good riddance ACU! Nope. What I got was another automated email asking me to REVIEW the service I'd received on a recent transaction! I called to find out what was going on - apparently an employee initiated an $80+ transaction to take out fees for inactivity...WOW and that my account was not closed but now in a "Charged off state". This wasn't authorized nor mentioned, nor is it ethical to fee someone into a negative balance without informing them. Fortunately, my balance still wasn't pushed into the negative just yet, but I wanted clear detail about this transaction, who authorized it and why I still hadn't heard anything confirming my account was indeed closed as I requested. I was advised that the Director of Asset Recovery was out of the office (Friday), but that she would call me when she returned on Monday. I was assured that I'd receive a call and that she was "really good about returning calls to customers". Monday came and went - along with the remainder of the week. On Friday, I called again and was transferred to yet another person who then let me know that her (the Director of Asset Recovery) desk was full and that I was a person in a long line of cases - he could provide me no detail as to what the hold up was, no detail as to why my account (now November, 1 month later) STILL wasn't closed, NOR an apology for never calling like they said they would but still sending promotional emails and advertisements for an account that was supposed to be closed a month ago. He said he could give me no timeline as to when to expect a call from her. How tacky, how unprofessional of a credit union. I'm disgusted and it seems that no matter what I do, I cannot get away from this sorry excuse for a bank. I'm moving forward with filing a complaint with the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance and suggest that you do the same. Google their number. Instead of leaving reviews that go ignored (I've seen the complaints against ACU on BBB and Google reviews) we as consumers need to demand better customer service and an end to unethical fees that snatch balances, hard earned money, away from people just to keep their doors open. File a complaint and follow up on it until it's resolved or this behavior will continue. read more

in spring of 2022 when I opened accounts at a nearby branch solely for the convenience of their location, I thought the standard of service above par for smaller banks, trusts and credit unions with whom I have banked in four countries over my lifetime. Over the last 180 - 365 days, I have noticed a complete deterioration of service. They waste plenty of my time. Calls are not answered. Emails from the site form go unanswered. Even their computerized screener on their call in does not recognize my standard London English (NOT a regional) accent. Perhaps I have to learn to talk 'murican of the southern variety. Their digital input does not allow enough time to enter the multiplicyt of digits required. Promises of service go unfilled. Today, I was told that "management would be in touch" about a problem elevated to that level from an email that I sent yesterday about a lack of service issue. Its now 15 minutes past their "go home" time. Have I heard? No. They are closed on a Monday holiday. I foolishly opened a "corporate account" six weeks ago solely for convenience to my personal banking--it took numerous call backs to set up properly. So this condescension towards the customer -- even the squeaky wheel -- must come from up above and flow down. Not a good omen. I will be leaving this area within 18 months or so, probably to go out of state. At that time, I will let my accounts go dormant and look for another "locally owned" institution with what used to be "a personal touch." Don't bother with ACU. Find another credit union. read more

so I was very skeptical on using this bank simply because the hours of operation are the same time as mine and that was just not going to work for me at all. So I decided to use the account for savings . I saved up 450 for my sons football in this account..I hadn't even ordered a debit card to this account just so I wouldn't spend the money . somehow someway a hacker got inside of my account and was able to make ACH transfers. the day before my sons football was due .I was literally flabbergasted , I contacted ACU and got the most amazing customer service rep named LORI . and now I see why this bank times of operation are the way they are.its like I had my very own personal banker. mrs Lori reversed those achievements payments so fast it was almost as if they never existed, ive never been treated with such kindness ,not to mention the fact that she was a real human and American for that matter,, when I called her extension she actually picked uo ad recognized that I was the one she was emailing. that is so rare to find , Mrs Lori has gained my complete trust in ACU platform, the woman is a angel and I want to thank ACY for handling my situation with expertise and care and sensitivity ,I felt so vulnerable and open and mrs Lori cleared it all up. I would like to express extreme disappointment with the service provided by Associated Credit Union. Recently I fell upon financial difficulty which caused me to result to seek relief by filing a Chapter 13, bankruptcy, something I did not want to do however underemployment left me no choice. With that said, as a member of the Associated Credit Union for at least 30 years, I did not expect to be treated like a wayward son. They immediately restricted on-line banking and terminated overdraft services. I did not owe them any money, all OD fees were paid. Now I cannot make any online transactions such as on line deposits or Zelle and the only explanation I received was from a rude and inconsiderate employee stating "that's just the way it is" and If I wanted to make a deposit I'd have to drive to the nearest branch to make a deposit which is dam near 50 miles from my home! It appears that loyalty it is not rewarded at ACU. It is ok, God doesn't like ugly. I will change banks immediately to one that doesn't penalize you for experiencing hard times. Absolutely Horrible. I made the mistake of getting my home loan from them because my employer "used" them. It turns out that they have nothing to do with my employer. They messed up my first payment and I got a ding on my credit report. They then messed up my tax payment from escrow twice. Now that I am finally trying to close my accounts, they won't close them. They want my driver's license number, a signed letter, and/or to come into their bank. I have moved. If I have to drive 200 miles just to get the lousy $200 that is left in my account, I'll be sure that it costs them... What in the world! Just CLOSE my account! read more

From taking money out of my account without me knowing I just happened to notice a mass withdrawal-their error not mine-and refusing to answer me or validate why to allow dispute (Vincent Tucker in their corporate office refused to legitimize or validate the reason) for which I had to hire an attorney to get resolution they just released the money back to my account again with no apology or word, to their slow and terrible service where no one knows what they are doing, their terrible isolated locations, their awful slow and clunky atm machines that are actually located in inaccessible locked lobbies that half the time the swipe card does not work, so the times you need them-say Sunday or after hours oh well. That and forget depositing on their mobile ap which is halfway decent but only allow check deposits of $5,000 or less. So if it's a Sunday and the atm lobby is locked and their access door is defunct oh well, Monday morning it is. So this and that they are just overall a poorly run organization with terrible communication, terrible computer systems, inconvenient hours, incompetent and ever changing staff so nobody knows what they are doing, bad/nefarios business practices, time consuming and mostly useless atm machines, deserted banks so be prepared to wait, and crap computer systems and shitty corporate employees that cost consumers by mistakenly and illegally withdrawing money, beware. Rates aren't terrible but not as competitive or on par as other credit unions and even banks. I say keep moving if you have other credit union options, they aren't worth the headache. read more

Their online bill pay is a third party service. You CANNOT contact that service. Yet, the credit union does not advocate on your behalf. The bill pay service pays your bills, and a couple of days later collects $ from your checking account. My husband accidentally paid a 5,000$ bill, twice within 2 days. It was a disaster. They suspended bill pay, while we were on vacation. It was going to take 15 days to get a refund from the company that was paid twice. We contacted the credit union as soon as we saw the suspension, but still were dinged 3 times for insufficient funds as the bill pay service tried to collect. We came home a day early from vacation to put cash in the bank to pay the bill. Apparently, an hour before we deposited cash into the account, bill pay sent it to collections. This was on Friday after we received the notice of insufficient funds on the Tuesday before. Also, as soon as we deposited the $, we contacted some sort of liaison that ACU has with their bill pay, to let them know we had deposited the cash. We've had an account with ACU for 8 years. Big banks may be evil, but this credit union is worse, whether intentional or just incredibly inept. Wanted to refinance my mortgage but in order to do so here you have to open 2 accounts first - a membership account and a checking account - with a $25 deposit. When I tried to open the required accounts online (branch offices closed at the time due to Covid) I kept having technical issues and the mortgage people shrugged and said "call tech support". Which I did. For a week or two. Never got a response. Never got an indication that they opened the accounts even though I never got all the way through the process. Meanwhile I got a new mortgage elsewhere. All of a sudden I started getting statements from ACU with $8 per month in fees for paper statements and a monthly service charge. I was away from Atlanta for a bit but when I tried to close the accounts remotely they told me I had to come into a branch. I was finally able to get into a branch and when I explained my issue and request to close the account, they shrugged, gave me back the few dollars that remained after all their fees and closed the account. Unless you're a masochist who likes to pay for people to shrug at you and not help even when you're asking to do business with them, then do yourself a favor and avoid ACU. read more

I just join this credit union and the rep who help me set it up was amazing. My experience changed when I applied for a loan. I'm recently in need of a car and reviewed my credit then realized I need a loan to consolidate my debt to increase the score, then my goal was to late apply for a car loan. I had been up to date on my recent credit but there were some misc. issues to dispute. I have the income over 6k a month after tax and $338 in monthly debt. The rates were decent and I applied online on a Friday 7/26 and never received a call or notification I was aware of. I called and I was referred the loan officer Debra K*****y. I called a few more times on 7/30 and left a message but no response then finally she answered. I told her my situation and my goals but then she tells me my credit score then tells me my DTI was at 48% lol as if I don't know how to calculate it and I asked if she can break it down or walk me through this process because I don't understand how she came up with that number with I only pay $338 a month. She says because they are max and that's why I want the loan to pay them off. Then she tells me "I have seen your kind of people," then goes on to say that we get loans and say we are paying off credit or debt consolidation but don't really do it." Then she had taken this conversation too far and personal and judging me on my racial profile then continues to tell me why I don't deserve the loan. At the moment I didn't want to cause a scene or get update but asked for a manager or compliant info. She was rude, dismissive, racially profiled me, over talked me, she was just nasty and there were no customer service or as if any respect for me or my situation. They don't use proper or stand practices as a normal bank. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB, FDIC, Federal Reserves and my company because they acknowledge them as a preferred bank. They don't deserve to be a company's preferred bank since they treat people in this manor. read more

Used this Credit Union for decades. Then, they went public, changed the website, and now, it is utterly non functional. After 30 plus years, because the website does not work at all, I am leaving ACU. As I said, for decades this little bank was top tier. But when they changed to an open bank, the website broke, (it has been unreliable since day one of the change), and the policies changed, it became like a regular "up yours with a red hot poker" bank, except, that almost every other back I have heard about has a website that works. ACU has no functional website, at best you can log in 1 time in five attempts, and then actually use some of the functionality 1 time in five that you are able to log in. And I am being generous. At first this credit union was good, not great but good I have been a member for over five years and had one loan through them for a motorcycle, I sold the bike after a year and paid the loan off, no problem then when I tried to get a personal loan filling out the application online this is were their online process go askew, evidently I wanted more then they allow but how am I to know this when the online application does not stipulate a limit, then my cosigner who is my grandfather who has over a 800 credit rating was denied since he does not live in the same house as me, this was ludicrous why would he live here, makes no sense and he had never heard this. Well all in all I am moving my account to another institution so are my father and step mother. This branch must be one of the oldest they run and an update would be very beneficial. You have to go around to the back of the building to get inside and there's always a line. I'm sure that's one of the ways that they save money for their members (well, that's the story they're telling). The loan officer assigned to my mortgage application, J. Pearson, did not create a good experience for me. I sent him an email asking him a question about my application nearly a month ago and he still hasn't responded. Also, the other lenders I applied to would call me once per week to see how the home search was going and would promptly respond to calls and emails and answer any questions I had. The other lenders were also available outside of normal business hours. J. Pearson did no check ups to see how the process was going, did not promptly respond to emails, did not answer all of my questions, and did not appear to be available outside of normal business hours. I went in on Friday, August 2, to deposit a government check at Delta community credit union in downtown Decatur on Ponce, the teller didn't know that checks from the government are guaranteed funds! I bank with Associated CU, but I went to Delta because they are a share branch facility, so I thought that everything would be done just like it is a other service center locations? I was wrong, sooooo wrong !!!! Training is needed at that branch,desperately !!! A copy of the check was faxed over to associated cu, so that the manager could see that the check was, in fact, a government check. Needless to say, associated would not release my check until Monday, the following week. I have bills to pay, but I've been forced to wait until Monday for the check to clear. Now my bills will be paid late!! First thing Monday morning, I'm withdrawing ALL of my funds, then I'm closing my account. I've often referred customers to Associated, if my financial institution was unable to grant them account. The Marietta location by the Air Force base smells like an old church--10 times NO! Don't go here! Use another credit union instead. In my case they didn't even get numbers/math right to the point I was shocked. I went in on a Monday and the ladies working all had jeans on so they looked dumb and then they looked even dumber when they had blank stares for me. I am still wondering why my experience there was so uncomfortable. I was wearing a business casual dress and was polite but as always their workers are WEIRD and rude. They left me in the "lobby" for a long time, but it wasn't even a lobby--it was a side area with a sofa and desks that reminded me of in-school suspension in Middle school!! So I awoke yesterday to find that someone in another state had withdrawn the equivalent of my paycheck out of my account. I was assured by someone at ACU that it would be taken care of I just needed to fill out the paperwork right? Did that immediately and faxed it. Not a word the first day. Called at opening time the next morning and was told it was on somebody's desk and Vanessa will call me today. 45 minutes before closing I figured they were blowing me off and I called them. After 2 hangups I get a person who swears she can't hear a word I say even thought I hear her fine. I call again from a land line. Two more hang ups and then she just can't hear what I'm saying....except when I turn to my co-worker and say "this is un-freaking believable". She can hear that apparently but anytime I try to ask about Vanessa (who may or may not even exist) all of a sudden the static is just so bad she can't tell what I'm saying. Call again from a different land line. At this point I've lost count of the times they transferred me only to get disconnected. Once I get someone, same game "can't understand you" unless I say to my co-worker that she still claims to not hear me - again she can hear that just fine. This must just be some "Friday Fun Times" games they play to get out of working so close to closing time. It is immature, and unprofessional but I see from other reviews that it is not unexpected. I will continue this runaround until I get an answer. But it doesn't look like this company wants to help me at all. I'm a fan of the credit union, and I love being a member, however, this particular credit union MUST UPDATE THEIR TECHNOLOGY, specifically at THIS branch! The hours of operation aren't conducive for me to do a lot of banking during the week (they close at 4pm daily), so I usually bank on Saturdays when the drive thru is open 9am-12pm, unless there is a Federal Holiday on Monday, which means they are CLOSED on the Saturday before (this is WEIRD! I work on the corporate side of a major bank and we don't have this practice at all). So if the drive thru is closed, and the branch is closed, then one would think that the ATM would be a great option, right? WRONG! The ATM does NOT accept deposits. Yes, in 2015, there are still ATMs that DO NOT accept deposits. I was forced to drive to another location (Norcross, main branch), and to my surprise, this location DID allow ATM deposits. I live in the city of Atlanta (Buckhead). Driving to Norcross is about 25mins.....I'm seriously considering closing this account and opening another elsewhere. read more

I have been a member of this credit union for close to 40 years and their performance keeps getting worse. This organization is and has always been very backward and has not caught up to the 21st century. Anything that happens, they blame contractors (Allied) for the errors. If you like hillbilly banking, ACU is for you. Flood Insurance Required-Threats Made- Last year out of the blue we received a letter telling us that we needed flood insurance of all things on our home of 25 years. (We have a very small mortgage and equity loan with them.) Never before had flood insurance been required but we purchased the additional insurance and provided proof as there was threatening language about what would happen if this was not done ASAP. We didn't want any problems with our home. Several days later during a conversation with ACU, we were advised that the company contracted by ACU had erred and sent letters to all their mortgage customers instead of the select few who needed flood insurance and we really DIDN'T need flood insurance. Next we had to secure a refund of the insurance paid, contact the flood insurance federal agency and get proof we didn't need the insurance etc. etc., ACU never issued anything in writing advising us and other customers what had happened. Who knows how many other mortgage customers paid for this flood insurance in error and never knew it. We just happened to find out when husband was verifying the insurance was paid for and we were all clear etc, etc. Homeowners Insurance Required-Threatening language about a $2,500. charge if we didn't act ASAP. Recently we received a letter stating ACU's records show we do not have home owner's insurance, that insurance is required blah, blah, blah. Of course, we DO have insurance and have always had insurance on our largest asset. This is at least the 2nd or 3rd time we have provided proof. Last year after over 30 years with State Farm we changed to AMICA. Proof was provided to ACU at the time. State Farm didn't even make the top 10 insurance companies in Consumer Report Issue on Insurance agencies and their performance. By the way, we ended up saving a wad of cash on our home and auto insurance (Cotton States). If you've been with a company for a long, long time, you're probably paying too much. They don't reduce your premiums although you may qualify for lower rates. My husband called ACU about the matter. Again, their vendor, Allied, was blamed for the mix up. He asked to speak to the manager and left a message on his voice mail but was not called back. A call to ACU this morning to ask why mgr hadn't called back--"he was in meetings all day". Still haven't heard from manager. Yesterday, we received a letter that ACU will begin charging a monthly fee of over $4.00. When asked what this was for, it's for identity theft insurance, etc for us. Please please please for your sake do not open an account with the associated credit union. I have recently been robbed for 800 dollars by this bank. Someone has written multiple checks from there own account to my account and withdrew funds in which this bank has yet to investigate. I was informed to create a police report when i have never owned a check book. This company is a fraud. I walked into the bank and closed the account after finding this fraud activity and opened a new account in which they charged the fraud activity to the new accout while harrassing me about the returned check fees. Not really sure how someone can write checks with there name and address on it and signing my name as the pay to the order of but i get charged for it. Then speak with numerous of representatives which inform that they are unable to give me the fraud departments number although for me to make a police report. Then tell me if its found to be fraud then i would receive me money back although no contact from there fraud department has been made. If you have an account with this bank i would definitely advise you to close it and take your money somewhere else. 800 dollars has been taken from me and no correspondence from the bank. I have explained this to numerous current bank employees and no one can explain nor give a contact number for me to call for resolution. My husband passed away on April 3 2019. We had been members for almost 30 years and through many mergers and changes. We had been married for 55 years. On Friday, April 5th, an undisclosed credit union worker read my husbands obituary and proceeded to lock our joint account. We had a joint mortgage, checking and savings account. We have excellent credit with 775-800 scores. We had 3-4 months cash in the bank to cover bills. I called to see why the accounts were locked and the representative said it was because he had one credit card that I was not joint on. Therefore, for the last 9 days, I have been without the ability to purchase medicine, pay bills or take care of myself. My pension auto enters that account. Our bills auto drafted for their payments. I am now dependent on my daughter and her husband to get me through until we can change banks or work something out. It is no wonder they are 1star rated. On top of my husbands death, this is horrible. I would have at least expected a phone call from them but not this. DO NOT USE THIS BANK. read more
