Food was good, but service was poor. Got a strong sense of being unwelcome here as Americans. First waiter gestured for us to sit at a table solidly in the deli section, quite far away from the main group of tables in the nicer "restaurant" area, and practically threw the menus down at us, barely making eye contact. Just unbelievably rude. We had half a mind to leave because we felt so unwelcome. Unfortunately, it was quite late at night (around 10pm, so nothing else was really open nearby), however, it was not even close to their closing time, which is midnight.
A second waiter came by that was more friendly but made it a point to spend as little time as possible with us. After not being checked in on or having our water refilled (and we completely drained our water glasses) or experiencing any semblance of service beyond the minimum of placing the food on the table, we asked for the check. At this point, the second waiter had the AUDACITY to attempt to coerce me into tipping, presumably because we are American and wouldn't know any better. He kept saying "no service charge included"....yeah because it's illegal to include service charge in the bill in Spain!! I looked this up, and I have been to Spain and specifically Barcelona before! He kept saying "how much do you want to charge," and I had to state multiple times, the exact amount of the bill. He asked a couple of times, while holding the bill, how was everything? As if saying, oh, it was good? You should tip then! I responded, "good," in regards to the food, but refrained from commenting on the quality of service. If you are not from the area, I would recommend against coming here (which is probably what they want anyways). If you do decide to come here, please do not feel pressured to tip (I never felt any pressure or expectation at any other restaurant in Barcelona. The one time I felt compelled to tip at another restaurant, the waitress was super grateful, probably overly so because people do not typically tip in Spain or Europe). This place was extremely unprofessional and I regret coming here.
Afterwards, I realized that they served us the Iberian ham without the bread with tomato (cocas con tomate), and sliced us pieces of ham that were significantly thinner and smaller than their usual standard (from looking at the Google Photos on their Google business page)...what kind of petty shit is that?
Also, for the record, because this Yelp page isn't official, this place's actual address is C/ del Dr. Ferran, 23, Les Corts, 08034 Barcelona, Spain. read more
