Came here as the starting point on a food tour that I booked through Viator. It's a tiny bar tucked away down a side street in the Gothic Quarter. I had some trouble finding it initially, but once inside I was happy to see how warm and welcoming the place felt. I tried sweet vermouth for the first time here, served the traditional way with an olive and citrus slice. It paired well with the many pinxtos we sampled, along with small plates. Service was prompt and the food was delicious and seemed authentic to Barcelona. It's a great place to stop in for a drink and quick bite while touring the Gothic Quarter. One thing to note - seating is limited in this space, so depending what time of day you visit it might be challenging to snag a table or spot at the bar. Still, if you're in the area I'd recommend giving this place a try!

If you're looking for an interactive food experience in Barcelona, make sure you book the paella making class with the Travel Bar! This is such an amazing hands on experience, where you get to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture. The evening starts off at the travel bar where your chef will meet you. Our chef Fernando was running behind, so we were given complimentary sangria while we waited! After this, Chef Fernando took us on a tour of the Boqueria Market, where we purchased the ingredients for our paella. The Boqueria is HUGE, so make sure you stay with the chef. Lastly, you will head over to the cooking school where you will be served traditional Spanish tapas and are taught how to make your own sangria. And of course, you can't forget the best part...making the paella! Overall, I would definitely recommend booking this class with Travel Bar. For only 40 euros you get so much, and not to mention all of the different people you will meet along the way!

Seriously grungy bar. Reminded me of an old college dive bar...nasty bathrooms with only one working toilet though that one had a sign asking you to put your used toilet paper in the (overflowing) trash can, locks don't work, light does not stay on for more than 30seconds, no paper towels or hand dryer, sticky floors and sticky tables. Had my husband not already ordered drinks we would have left. Cava came out warm. No way I would eat any food made here. Stopped in to meet a tour group here but I can't see how this place stays open being in an area with top quality restaurants and clean bars. Stay away. Seriously. If your meeting a group here, wait outside.

Came here through a booking event to watch the Flamingo show. The event states that this bar will provide us tapas and escort us to the venue for the show. Giving this place 5 years because the bar tender and the employees were simply just so nice and hospitable to us. I loved the way they interacted with us and made us feel welcomed. Not to mention, they also mixed our drinks very well! Silly story, but we asked whether we can drink tap water in Barcelona and they were like "OH NO! We wouldn't advise it!" Thinking oh crap that's what we've been drinking all along, they gave us a free water bottle. Although it seems as a small gesture, I appreciate how kind they were to us. The food that came along through the booking event was okay i must say. The portion size was definitely huge. However, most of the "tapas" were just cheese and meat plates. They had some other various tapas, but it's not the kind you would expect from a tapas bar. This could also be because we booked it through a 3rd party and this is what was set up. However, great atmosphere, free Wifi, and excellent customer service.

I reserved to attend a cooking class to make paella. It was the best cooking class that I ever visited. The tour started with shopping in the market to buy the seafood for dinner. Next we walked to the cooking school. He group was split up to different roles, Prep/cooking an sangria. I was in the Prep/cooking group. This is a great tour for groups and solo travelers. I met so many other people. The food was amazing. They provided the recipe at the end of the class.

Totally an American bar if you prefer people that speaks English. They have classes/tourist attractions that you sign up for. I signed up for a paella cooking with tapas and unlimited sangria, and a flamenco show with tapas. It was awesome! Also they have free walking tours at this bar and they take you to their sister bar near the pier. The food was pretty good mostly appetizer/tapas style. The sangria was really good as well! A good bar in Barcelona for the tourist.

We had a great time here last night. We got off the hop on hop off bus (which, BTW, is a great deal) in the Gothic Quarter with the intention of hanging out with our friends at Bar Stoke but it was closed so we walked until we found this one. It was the $4 happy hour drink special sign that 1st drew our attention, then the tapas sign. We went in, grabbed a couple bar stools and the fun began. First, the drink special was Sex on the Beach. My husband had fun with that. What an awkward name for a drink. The jokes must get so old for bartenders. But our bartender made it fun as we watched as several people asked for it til the end of happy hour. Then we ordered food. The olives for $2.50 were a huge serving and wonderful. The garlic mushrooms were OMG good! Then the cook brought out the BLT. It was beautiful and the most fabulous BLT I've eaten yet! My husband got a chicken Caesar salad and drank Estella all night. After 2 of the special drinks and dinner, I also had a Jaime's Wine and after that, I was drunk! LOL We were in a little after 6 and left a little after 8 because we had to catch the last bus of the night to get back to our hotel. The last bus stopped running about half way to our hotel and kicked us off so we got a taxi cuz I was still feeling tipsy and not up for the walk. When we got in the cab is when my husband realized he forgot his backpack at the bar - oh, no! I called, they had it so we took the cab back to the bar!! That was an adventure because the driver drove us through all the tiny streets in the Gothic Quarter so my tipsy husband wouldn't get lost. But he said that it's frowned on by police and the company because it's so risky so we realized he was doing us a very special service! Everything was still in the backpack so we're thankful and appreciate the honesty and integrity of all those we met at this bar!! And that we had a very nice taxi driver!! What a night!
The first meeting location on our food and wine tour was the infamous Travel Bar and had a private large table available for fifteen tourists hosted by Kiki from Travel Brilliant Tours. The dimly lit bar was decent with a full liquor bar. The rear patio shaded by a large umbrella, was available for additional seating and was the perfect place to unwind in the cool weather. We consumed Vermut Casa Mariol with tapas of Pinchos, Queso de Cabra with Honey and Sardines Bocarone (see pic) beautifully served on mini baguettes. read more

I had booked a wine and tapas tour and this charming little bar happened to be the meeting spot. The staff was incredibly kind and such a pleasure to engage with. They offer a wide variety of beverages and tapas, as well as tours. It may seem a bit touristy but honestly it's in the best way possible. It's the perfect place to begin your adventure if you've never visited Barcelona before and you're not sure where to start. read more
The pintxos and sweet vermouth are excellent here! Travel Bar is such a swell time. Came here with a group as part of a food tour and this was our first stop. The bar is trendy and lively with good bar and table seating. Service was wonderful and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Very different from some of the other service experiences that I had while in Spain. We tried a few different pintxos and they arrived on huge platters for us to taste. It was so much food that we couldn't even finish everything but we sincerely tried. They were all served over crispy toasted bread. We had the following: *Salumi and spicy red marmalade: Spicy and delicious! The salumi tasted extremely fresh and the red marmalade had great spices. *Croquette wrapped in bacon over blue cheese: Exceptional! The culmination of flavors was just crazy! Loved the blue cheese with the bacon and then the deep fried croquette with the meat filling. Seemed like there was a lot going on with this one, but the flavors melded together beautifully. This was actually my favorite pintxo out of all the ones we tried. *Duck liver pate with fresh anchovies: Surprisingly really good! This was the pintxo that I was least excited about since I'm not a huge fan of duck liver or fresh anchovies, but it was really tasty. I feel like the pate mellowed out the potentness of the anchovies which allowed me to truly enjoy the taste. The sweet vermouth was to DIE for! Almost like a dryer and less sweet Sangria but with more body. I feel like never had "sweet" vermouth before because my previous experience with vermouth has not been all that great. Also could just be that I tried the best of the best since it's literally from Spain and IN Spain. Either way, I was extremely impressed. The bar is so chill and fun. We thoroughly enjoyed our pintxos and vermouth while engaging in fun conversation. I feel like this is a fun place to hang with friends, but I really appreciated that it was apart of our food tour too. Would definitely recommend a visit either for a food tour or just to check out on your own. read more

If you're visiting Barcelona and you're in the Barrio Gótico, make sure the Travel Bar is the first place you visit for a great experience in Spanish tapas and wine culture. The place in run by expatriate English speakers and they will recommend how to order and what tastes best. Their sangria is delicious and the bartender has a heavy hand with the alcohol. Overall, you'll enjoy the atmosphere, have great tapas and drinks, and meet friendly locals and tourists from all over the world. read more

Came here for the cocktail making class. This was one of the highlights of our Barcelona trip! I forget the name of the bartender that ran the class, but he was incredible! He's from Dublin. He's very personable, made the class so fun! The drinks turned out great. Made some new friends in this class even!! Highly recommend the class. read more

I could only give it 3 stars as we were given a piece of paper to take a picture for the recipes for the paella and sangria. To my disappointment the recipes is not available and the more I searched I kept ending up empty handed with invalid IRL. But aside that it wS a great experience, truly enjoyed it but just wish I could have the recipes to make at home. I had other sangria while visiting Barcelona but nothing topped the one at the cooking class at Travel Nest. Would definitely do it again but make sure to write down every Ingredient. read more

If you're much more comfortable with English than Spanish, and you have a soft-spot for dive bars, the Travel Bar is for you! The Travel Bar is in an extremely touristy area of Barcelona (perhaps the entire city is a tourist trap), but it's less of a rip-off than most places. Large (pint) draughts are about 4€ -- but you must like Estrella Damm, because that's all they have on draught. The only food I had was an extremely greasy order of calimari. It was OK, but very greasy. As I mentioned, the Travel Bar is a dive bar, so I wasn't expecting a great culinary experience. They also have perhaps the most generous WiFi policy in Barcelona -- free for as long as you want to sit there and you don't need a password. read more

I hate to admit it but this place was a haven when I was in Barcelona for a long weekend in March. After a couple of nights of expensive clubs, average bars and restaurants, too much sodding tapas, rain and millions of miserable and unfriendly spanish people, we decided enough was enough. We'd done the culture and all we wanted was a burger and a beer. After getting absolutely drenched we found the travel bar. Ok, it's not in the least bit Spanish - they show Eastenders on the TV and serve English food (at cheap prices), with English and English-speaking staff, cheap drinks, internet etc etc Almost immediately after going in we were commandeered by the manager into drinking 'fruit shots' (which actually turned out to be straight vodka with a touch of juice on top) and were joined by eager young barmen who clearly thought they had spotted their entertainment for the evening. There is nothing new about this place - I felt like I was 18 and travelling again. This is where you come to meet other young English people abroad, pull the barman, have loads of fun. I'm happy I was just there for one night as a bit too old to have been impressed with it for too long, but my friend liked it so much she is now working there as their number 1 barmaid. They also organise travel to Ibiza and other places. Recommend unless you hate that kind of thing (if you've been travelling or been to magaluf, you can imagine what it's like) read more

I wandered off the Rambla looking for a Wifi connection a tapa or two and some escape from the August throngs. I've been able to avoid August vacations until now. A prominent "Wifi Zone" sign at this place caught my eye and I ventured in. I ordered the tapa sampler and a Long Island Iced Tea. Most of the tapas were too greasy as mentioned in earlier posts. The drink was fine. At first, staff seemed a little snooty, but once I stuck to speaking Spanish, they eased up. I'd just arrived in town and had fun trotting out my rusty, learned in Ecuador, Spanish with waite staff who also mostly learned their Spanish outside of Spain. Morocco, Colombia, Mexico etc. I'd definitely recommend this place as a bar but save your Euros for elsewhere eats. read more

They have a free Barcelona walking tour starting from here at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, so we got here early and hung out hearing a lot of expat accents and grabbed a decent cup of coffee (pretty good and pretty cheap) for under €2. There's also a free photography walking tour at 11 starting here too. It's a nice dive (as dive bars go!) and service was very quick. I enjoyed hearing the variety of languages and the free wifi (need to ask server for password) is always a bonus. read more

The food at the Travel Bar wasn't amazing. The location is decent. The best part of my experience was the waiter who helped us. He was very helpful. Other than that nothing was great. I got a Philly cheesesteak and didn't love it. Some of the meat was undercooked. The service was also very slow and it wasn't crowded. The people working at the bar and in the kitchen were yelling swear words (in English). There was free wifi. The food wasn't terribly expensive if it was good. It was expensive for the subpar quality of the food. Some of my family got feta cheese salads and they were good. Subpar restaurant with slow service. read more

We did the free walking tour and it was amazing! The guide, Adi, was so knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us directions and suggestions after the tour, and suggested we try Travel Bar's paella and sangria cooking class... It was fantastic! It was so much fun to go to the market to buy the fresh seafood, prepare it, and cook it, while enjoying delicious tapas and sangria. Such a great deal too. Afterwards we went back to Travel Bar for free shots and had a couple beers too with friends we met during the cooking class. This is such a great place and wonderful experience! read more

I feel I have to defend Travel Bar, because it's a great place that's well worth checking out, even if it's not perfect. The down side is that it's not very Spanish; Travel Bar is a mostly English-speaking rally point for, well, TRAVELERS, duh-- so you'll definitely find a nice mix of people. Drinks are very slightly on the pricey side, but the food is way above average for a bar, so don't be afraid to hang out and order some nice tapas here. Best of all, the staff is all really nice, so if you're looking for a great dive to relax and meet good people (and for god's sake, to get away from the Ramblas!!), you can't go wrong here. read more

A good spot to meet up with folks if you're traveling on your own and lonely for company who speak English. The bar has what they call "home food" and depending on where you hail from, that includes the comforting standard American burger or bangers and mash. They also have 1-euro dinners: buy a drink (beer, cocktail, tea, etc) and a meal of simple pasta or veggies and rice comes for only... you guessed it, 1 euro. The husband and I found the bar after stumbling around the Barri Gotic trying to find our way back to La Rambla. We saw a sign for Travel Bar's flamenco and tapas deal (24 euro per person) and decided to go back for that experience the next night, Halloween. There were about 15 other tourists with us. We walked from the Bar to Plaza Real where we got to bypass the huge line for the flamenco show. My husband thought that it was the show with dinner, so he hadn't eaten beforehand and was pretty hungry by the time the show was over. Though it was only 30 minutes long, there was enough passion and sweat from the performers to make it a pretty good show. The only thing that made me pause and feel a little "eh" was that the tickets were only 8 euro at the door (and I even saw one lady who had gotten a discounted ticket for 6 euro!). So that made me wonder if the deal through Travel Bar was all that great. After the show, we walked through what felt like the entire Barri Gotic to the Travel Bar's sister spot Travel Bar Port. We were ready for our tapas dinner and unlimited sangria! The food was pretty delicious and there were a lot of plates on the table, but since we were sharing amongst 8 people, I actually left a little hungry. The sangria was pretty watered down, as well. Since it was Halloween night, the place soon became full of costumed drunk folk. When the grungy pirate at the bar came over and started sloshing his beer in our laps, we figured it was time to go. read more

If you're a tourist looking to mingle with other tourists, then this is the place for you. The food is decent and the staff speaks English. Downsides: the food is not very authentic, and I definitely felt like I had stepped out of Barcelona for the hour that I was there. Also, since there are two entrances (a front and a back entrance), there are pickpockets who come in the back door, pretend they are leaving the bar through the front, and pickpocket people on the way out. This happened to someone in our group, and the bartender admitted that this happens fairly often, which kind of makes sense since the name of the bar is basically the equivalent of a huge neon sign saying "We are tourists, we don't speak your language, and we most likely have lots of cash and our passports on us!" I didn't hate it, but it certainly wasn't an authentic Barcelona-esque experience. read more

Average food. Slow service. But reasonably priced and has a wifi connection. We shared a €15 tapas platter between 2 of us and it was a lot of food for us. Soo yummy! They had a menu of the day for 9.50 euros and it includes a starter (soup or salads) a main (chicken and fries, fish and chips, or tri tip but the steak is 2 extra) and desert (apple pie or chocolate cake) and all with a free drink (beer wine or water) the fish and chips was awesome but the chef wasn't in so it took a little longer. While in Barcelona, some people we met recomended the free walking tour that starts from Travel Bar, and we had an amazing time. The tour guide was enthralling, a long-term resident but native English speaker, had loads of fun but learnt so much at the same time. Was the highlight of our trip - we did go to the other Travel Bar by the Port at the end of the tour, at which time the tour guide offered to help the guests with their maps and plans - wish we had done it earlier in the tour so we could have benefitted more from the help from the guide - highly recommend the free walking tour! read more

Awrite Brian Harvey here from East 17. I won't need to explain me self and introduce me self if you've been following me reviews of places on me holidays. The travel bar is the next one in line to get reveiwed by B Harvey, I'll be givin you me experience of the place, straight up no bends, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. this become a little bit of a permanent residence for me at least in the mornings / early afternoon when i was in barcelona and loved the pleasure of a cider or five with me morning internets but what i had to endure for what shouldve been one of lifes little pleasures was farkin hell on earth. straight off the air in this place was as clammy as turkish brothel and needless to say i was sweating like a peado in a childrens playground. you'd think a nice cold beer would sort that - you're having a laff! this bar never had any beer on tap so i could cool meself down. i have to say it was me who felt like a bit of baked potato with me tracksuit being the foil and the baked potato being me head! the staff were all backpacking chodes, the sort who think they're cock of the walk for having the luxury to jet off & live the life of a smelly wanker in some bar that might as well be the devils taint it was that hot and smelly but whatever. at their age i was learning me a trade with me plumbing, you know? that reminds me the one day i was there with emma, looking on the internet & one of the staff stands on our table to change the bloody CD. No excuse me, or nothing just this chode with a face full of sandwich. he then dropped his sandwich on me computer. no farking apology. i was bloody ravin, wasnt i, - i give him a look to say 'you're a such a farkin wanker, mate' but didnt even register. also i dunno what was bloody up with the guy who ran the place. the guy reminded me a bit of me manager in east 17, creepy, weird, and very strange but just not fat like that wanker who had me sacked. he give me the right creeps, i think he knew i was brian harvey & was a bit obsessed. it was just another thing that was piled on top of brian with his terrible experience of this hole. i've shat in toilets that are nicer than this in the ukraine, where you just have a bucket, even if you're on the presidents whore boat FFS. place is well mingin, avoid it. get your self some tinnies of strongbow head back to the hotel, stick them in the fridge, get on your internet there and knock a few back. dont make the same mistake me and emma did. anyway thanks for reading me review. stay safe. read more

I just have been again to Barcelona, a great super place to be! Just Brillllliant! Travel bar is a bit of a lagging experience. I have been to Barcelona for over seven times and this bar was the no no experience of this round. I had heard about it but I had never time to go!
