Rude, unprofessional, and hazardous…read more These workers came to our cabin to remove old fiberglass insulation from under the house. They laid down plastic under the porch and one would have thought that they would bag up the insulation over the plastic so as to contain the fiberglass. Instead, they pulled the insulation out into our yard and haphazardly bagged it up. There was fiberglass flying everywhere. Seeing this, I knew we would have some clean up to do in that area, but things were made shockingly worse when they began to use a LEAF BLOWER to blow the fiberglass insulation all over our yard!!! I ran out to stop them and they acted like I was being crazy for telling them that this was not okay. Fiberglass is literally fibers of glass and it does not break down and is incredibly hazardous. It was spread all over our yard, dispersed in tiny pieces, and an enormous hazard for our dog if she came into contact with it. We spent about 2 weeks remediating the situation, combing through our yard on our hands and knees, vacuuming up pieces and eventually covering the entire affected area with mulch since the damage was too far gone. We still can't let our dog into that part of the yard as she could breathe in or consume tiny, indiscernible pieces. The owner of the company came to asses the situation 3 days after it occurred and could not have been more rude. His commentary was non-sensical and it was clear that the attitudes of his workers matched the unprofessionalism of the company owner. Do not hire these people. They will only create more problems and potentially some very serious hazards.

Then, just as roof was to begin, backed out with only a text to builder saying 'sorry for the inconvenience'. Turns out it was likely way under-bid, with the wrong product. So, we dodged a bullet, but also they put us in a huge pickle. Shame.

From the owner: Why Choose Asheville Stonesmith LLC?…read more What sets us apart ... Matthew Smith, Stonemason in Asheville. Our attention to detail both seen and unseen. Sure you want your stone project to look great, but more so you want your investment in stone to be lasting. Our stone walls are well hearted/self-supported and stand alone, not relying on soil (which settles) or gravel (which travels) to hold them up. This is what makes them "traditional" stone walls, because through the ages this is the style that endures. Using these tried and true techniques our walls can last for centuries. When they eventually need to be re built, you can use all the materials to build another structure. What is a "greener" building method than that? We hand pick 90% of the stone used on your project. Every project is different. By customizing our selection for you, we get the right rocks for your project and minimize the amount of waste created while leaving you with a more finished product. This also benefits the planet by reducing the need for hauling away this heavy material. Although we are capable machine operators and stone splitting technicians, we strive to use less power tools on your job site. There is something meditative about the rhythmic ringing of a hammer and chisel shaping a stone. By consistently leaving the saws at home we are less intrusive, dusty and noisy which creates a more peaceful/natural environment both audibly and visually...
