I don't like dentists. And the proof of this would be to look in my mouth. Yesterday had my first appointment. The place was very modern and state of the art. The staff where great and I actually felt comfortable wasn't nervous. I needed to have a tooth pulled so I went into panic mode. I am 80 yrs old and my appt with aspen dental in newburgh was a horrible experience. I walked in and was immediately told they don't take medicare. I already knew that & was prepared to self-pay. However, I was told I had to pay $244.00 in advance. I have never heard of paying a dr or dentist in advance. I needed an adjustment to my implants and didn't even know if they could do it but they insisted they would not do anything without payment up front. So I reluctantly paid them. The x-ray technician had a hard time taking the xrays because I kept gagging. He got mad at me & was practically cursing. Finally got them done & the "dentist" informed me that she couldnh't help me. She told me that it was loose because there was more bone loss around the screws that holds it in place, making it unstable. NOTE: Every oral surgeon's website that I can find point to 1 of 3 reasons and fixes for a loose implant bridge.. NOT ONE mentions anything about replacement. Everything points to the screw, or the process in which it is attached. Here's where my concerns are that I discussed with Amanda. I don't even know the doctor's name because she did not introduce herself. There was no one else in the office, so she couldn't have been too busy, but since she left the building for lunch, IMMEDIATELY after I was done, it confirmed what I thought. She was in a rush. Here was my question that was relayed to her, without any callback. While I was there, xrays were taken and she determined that 4 teeth be removed, ALONG WITH MY 4 POST BRIDGE and replace it with...... another 4 post bridge. If there is so much bone loss that my existing bridge can not be stregnthened or re-attached, how is a new bridge going to be attached?? I asked her for options and she said there was no other way.... I spent $15,000 on that bridge 2 years ago and she acted like no big deal. I will not be coming back and I will be posting this on a google review. I'm not sure if she was really a doctor or not since she did not introduce herself... Very cold bedside manner. In 2024, with online reviews dictating the consumer's decision to use or not use a business, she should not be in so much of a rush and so pompous to tell me that the ONLY solution is to pull 4 teeth and replace my 4 post implant with ASPEN'S 4 post implant. Another solution that I found online on oral surgeon's websites is to dowel the hole with maple or mahogany or something and then re-drill and re-tap the hole. The implant is not defective and should not be the only solution to replace it!!! You don't replace a hanging light from your dining room because the screws are not holding it securely anymore!! This was a very arrogant attempt to SELL me a new, very overpriced implant bridge that would now cost well over $25,000. read more

On May 31st I had a root canal done by Dr. Johnston. From the first moment he addressed my fear and put me at ease. The doctor, throughout the process, explained what he was about to do, as well as checking with how I was doing. It was a really good experience....for a root canal! As I need another, I hope to see him again for my next root canal ! Highly recommend him! I chose Aspen dental for the IN network benefit for my root canal. I provided all the current x-rays from my dentist, and sadly the office staff at Aspen dental has failed to send one little X-ray, of my root canal, back to me after 5 requests, which I paid for. This is my new location! My denture broke, I called my office in Mohegan Lake in a panic! They could care less, so I went to the Newburgh location. Night and Day difference. The office staff, especially the receptionist, regrettable I didn't get her name, was so friendly and helpful. She welcomed with a smile and "no problem" attitude. 2 hours later walked out with my repaired denture! Thank you so much! You truly care about your patients and their needs! I went here for a good two years. Deep cleaning, reg cleaning and eventually a very high quote to fix my terrible teeth. I obsessed over brushing and flossing my teeth the entire time. They also canceled and made me reschedule quite a few times. Once while I pulled into the parking lot. The last time they did, they gave me a high quote to go along with it. I took someone's advice on yelp to try a different dentist and not mention Aspen. It's a 30 min drive but after two visits and a much lower bill my teeth are feeling and looking really good. My new hygienist mentioned I had burnished calculus which shouldn't be there with all the routine cleanings including the recent deep clean. I've gone twice, once for a deep clean and regular cleaning. My teeth and gums are great now and no ridiculous quotes. If you feel like your teeth aren't getting better and you may be paying too much, just try someone else like I did. Also, you have to really get on them to send your xrays to the new dentist. read more

This is the first review I am actually writing toward non-restaurants. I usually writes only about food but this is an exception. Why? Because this is one of the worst dentists in the world and I want everyone to know about it so that you won't get scammed. I chipped my front tooth about 2 yrs ago and was desparate to fix ASAP. I was looking for a nearby office and the ones where they take my insurance. I found this dental office in Poughkeepsie...so one in Newburgh is not the one I actually went but I am thinking they are all the same since this is one big dental coorporation. I liked the fact they do free full mouth xray on the first visit. The lady who took xray was very nice we talked about my college life and her son who is also a college student. Then i was lead to a doctor's office and she was very young and pretty seemed nice.Then she told me that I have 4 cavities and I need to have them treated. so she sent me to the receptionist to make a next appointment. The receptionist gave me a piece of paper stating that I have 4 cavities and how much it will cost to fix them....$500 with insurance!! without insurance? over $1000!!! She told me that one of them is completely covered black and really bad....but she never told me or marked on the piece of paper she gave me which teeth had cavities. Thank god I was not stupid enough to take their word. I told them my schedule is not sure so I have to wait and see and walked out. I obviously did not have any cavities....matter fact they were super clean when I visited a different dentist to fix my tront tooth. I was treated horribly today by Aspen Dental Newburgh NY and by DR SAFFNER specifically. I called MANY times both on Sat and Mon morning and no one answered and no voice mail. I went in person today to ask to be seen as a walk-in. I was the only walk in that day. I arrived at 9:45 am, before the Dr arrived, and was repeatedly told "she will be with me shortly" and "I'm next" for over 5 hours!!!. I would have left or scheduled an appointment if I knew she would not see me sooner and if I weren't in great pain with a bleeding tongue! I was finally seen by Dr. Seffner at 250pm, who loudly announced several times she leaves at 3. She was blatantly unapologetic for the wait and extremely rude. I needed 5 min of a dentist's time to remove a small piece of bone that was cutting into my tongue. Instead, I lost over 5 hours and was horribly disrespected by Dr. Seffner. I should have read the reviews earlier! I had an apt for an exam, had all my x-rays taken, but the dentist made me sit and wait 21 minutes because she didn't see them on the screen. WHAT?! I searched for someone to tell that I had them taken already....no one around. When she came back, she mocked me for being upset for having my time wasted with her incompetence.. Then they billed my insurance wrong, I am still waiting for a resolution. A surgeon operated on a patient who takes blood thinners, and didn't do the appropriate pre-op tests. I found this place to be a very commercial dentist office, I found that they really could care less about your true dental health,they sell treatments, also seems like everyone that goes needs to have a deep cleaning, with antibiotic. The finance lady was very short and rude and didn't like the questions asked regarding treatment. If you disagree with what they recommend your made to feel awful. My husband scheduled an appointment over the phone for a painful, broken tooth two days ago. His issue was clearly explained when the appointment was booked. Most of the way through his appointment he realized they obviously were not planning on fixing his tooth, not even with a temp. They repeated BLAMED HIM and excused that it was "the last appointment of the day" So what? You booked the appointment at that time knowing his issues. They admitted to him even if his appointment was earlier they probably wouldn't have had time for it. SO.... are they just booking appointments for the ability to bill people without even having time to help them? The appointment was so worthless they reversed the charges. He took off work for this and could have easily gone somewhere that would have helped him if only we hadn't mistakenly picked this here. read more

We came to Aspen Dental because it had one of the better ratings when we looked at dentists listed for our insurance. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular as this is a franchise, but still, the utterly terrible service and office conditions made this THE worst dentist office I or my spouse have ever visited. When you arrive, don't expect to be seen on time. You can print off the new patient paperwork from their website to save some time, but you still won't be seen as scheduled. The shortest wait I or my spouse had was just shy of an hour past the appointment time. The first thing done are X-rays, and the tech doing this stopped not once but twice to take personal phone calls. I mentioned this to the office manager and was told "we're pretty laid back here". Once I got back to the chair, the hygienist introduced herself and did the gum disease check. Then the dentist came back and poked around, then I was told to go upfront to schedule a cleaning. Wait a minute - that's what I thought I was here for and what I was told would happen. Nope, not here. You pay for a separate, additional visit before you're teeth cleaning so they can determine if you need a cleaning. So I made the follow up appointment for the cleaning. The cleaning and the teeth and mouth check by the dentist were unbelievably terrible. The hygienist slipped a couple times with her metal scrapping tool, drawing blood and eliciting a "Whoops! Sorry!" from her. The polishing didn't extend to all my back teeth even when I said something about them being missed. She told me she was done and that I would have to schedule ANOTHER cleaning if I wanted her to do my back teeth. Gossip about other patients is the norm for this office, and they will even gossip about a patient with other patients. Personal information is not treated in a manner accordant with HIPAA rules. Phone calls are rarely returned. The equipment is dirty, patient chairs in the dental area are broken, and one of the hygienists is incredibly pushy about her feelings on what constitutes good dental health. After she did the gum disease check and the dentist came and did his check and discussed my oral health, she came back and told me to ignore what the dentist said because he didn't know how dangerous current dental products are and how they caused more problems than they helped. Without asking me anything about my diet or dental habits, she started telling me that I (and almost every other patient she sees) would end up losing all my teeth if I didn't switch to a mostly vegan diet. She told me I had to have a deep cleaning due to the extensive gingivitis I had, which the dentist told me as well. The dentist also told me I had multiple cavities and would need two root canals to save the teeth due to gingivitis and decay. Total for this was over $3,000. I booked a visit with another dentist shortly after this, and without telling them anything about my visit to Aspen Dental. The non-Aspen Dental hygienist and dentist both gave me a completely different version of my dental health. After having the other dentist review the x-rays from Aspen (which I had to ask for multiple times for because they kept 'losing' my request until I told them the next time a request came in for my records it would be from an attorney), he told me that there was no evidence at all necessitating such extensive work on my teeth. I had held off on having the "necessary and emergency" dental work that Aspen had told me I needed to get because we couldn't afford it and didn't want to sign up for the credit plan they kept pushing, and I am glad I did. The dentist I saw after Aspen told me that I didn't need the two root canals and six fillings that Aspen told me I needed to have immediately, nor did I have the horrifying level of gingivitis they claimed I had. At this point, I told the non-Aspen hygienist and dentist about what transpired at Aspen, and was told that my story is one they've heard over and over and there are rumors Aspen will do unnecessary and expensive dental - especially this 'deep cleaning' - work purely for profit. Unfortunately, we fell victim to that scam as they quoted my spouse $1,600 of "necessary and emergency" dental work if he wanted to save his teeth, so he went ahead with the deep cleaning. He saw the same dentist I saw who also reviewed his records and told him that no, he didn't need the deep cleaning at all. I can't say with any certainty if this is just the way this particular office operates, or if it is endemic to all Aspen Dental offices, but we will never return. It's wrong to prey on people's fear of losing their teeth, and to push on them high interest rate credit lines in order to fund this work. A truly great dentist and their office works with patients and their best interests, not against them. read more

I'm always hesitant and fearful of going to the dentist, but today's visit was honestly a great first impression. Our insurance changed recently and I haven't had X-rays in almost 2 years, so I needed to find a new dentist. I knew this company offered free new patient exams so that was an immediate perk. Plus, this office is close to home and so I figured why not. Here are my thoughts... The office: The waiting area is clean and inviting. The whole office/patient area is nicely laid out & is different than any other dentist I have been to (I've only ever gone to private dentist practices in the past). Staff: Every single staff member was friendly and made me feel comfortable. I'm always super nervous at any sort of Dr appt, and being a new patient, you meet with quite a few staff members. One took X-rays, another did an exam, the Dr came in, and there were a few staff members up front (reception & checkout). Everyone answered my questions, no matter how silly they were, explained things clearly, and I never felt judged by any of them. I never floss as much as I should and often feel like I'm a kid being scolded at last dentist visits, but I didn't get that today. I didn't feel like I was in trouble yet I got the same advice in more friendly manner. Overall it was just a comfortable experience. Kudos to the staff at this office for making my first visit a positive one! If you're in the area and/or looking to swap dentists, I would definitely recommend them. After my initial x-rays and exam, I sat with someone who set up a treatment plan for me. We VERBALLY agreed on what was to be done, and I booked an appointment. As I said, I had a great experience with Maria, but I was confused because I thought that other work was to be completed at the same time, as discussed previously. After a few phone calls to the office, I was finally told that the contract I signed on my first visit did not include the work that we had spoken about. And since it was in writing, there was nothing I could do about it. I would have thought I had made a mistake, but after speaking to my son, he told me that they had done the exact same thing to him, and that he was charged more than they had initially agreed upon. I never review places negatively or even at all but after today I can't just not say anything. My initial visit was because my bottom row of teeth were shifting. I came 15 min early as recommended. So the receptionist, who is so polite and nice, says they are backed up. I was fine with it, a bit annoyed because I have a 1 year old. One year olds have very short attention spans. So we decide we will take out 3 wisdom teeth the next time the oral surgeon is there. Cool. Also I have gingivitis and they want me to do a care plan which is $300. I express I don't have extra right now as I have a child and just bought a home. NO OTHER OPTION WAS GIVEN so I'm like ok I'll do this when I can. Side note I go back to my son and sister that was watching him and they are both red and sweating. They had no air on in the waiting room and the temp was 87 degrees. Come on. Today was my wisdom tooth extraction. My husband brings me and per usual we have our one year old with us. I come 15 min early again. Half hour passes, then 45 min and the kid is getting restless. My husband asks the receptionist if she knows about when I'll go back. She says well we are behind so it will be another 45 min. . So he leaves and takes our son to get some food. I'm waiting while another customer who just arrived is carrying on about waiting. The guy was giving me severe anxiety. So finally I go back and the dental assistant says where is your driver. I tell her he went across the parking lot because our son was restless because we waited so long. She's immediately on the defense saying "I'm not arguing about wait times with you." Then she says something about putting me to sleep. Wait. When I met with the girl after my initial visit she NEVER mentioned that. My teeth weren't impacted so I figured numbing and go like I have done before. I go with her to the dr room because at this point I'm just defeated. The doctor is a asshole for the lack of a better word. He doesn't let me speak and told me several times to stop talking. Then says I'll answer your questions after I speak. I had no complaints about the initial visit. I liked the dentist. However, the dental hygenist whom I had for the cleaning on my second visit gave me the worst pain I have ever experienced in my 50 years of dental office visits by jamming some steel torture in order to rip the gums up on every side of each tooth. I had never had bleeding like that before from a cleaning and I now have deep pockets around each tooth that bleed when I brush and which look like the gums have been detached from the teeth. Before my cleaning I had only one gum that I was slightly concerned about as it had receded a tiny bit. Afterward I told her she should have offered me something for the pain and she said that I was the only patient who had EVER complained! My mouth hurt so badly from this that I did not eat food for several days--they ached. By the way I have no fillings or other work to be done and my gums were in good shape before this. And I am not happy at all--she asked me to go back for "the second part" of the cleaning ---but I called and cancelled. This type of thing never happened to me before. IT REALLY HURT and I am worried about whether my gums will ever be the same. Hard to describe how bad it was. read more

My fiancé had a chipped molar so we called local dentists and Aspen Dental was the one who could see her the soonest. For the first visit though, they would only do a general exam and take x-rays. They found 3 issues, with the chipped tooth the most serious. She liked that the x-ray results were displayed so she could try and find what the dentist was referring to during the consultation. This was all done on a Friday with the follow-up scheduled for the following Friday for 3:30pm. So on the following Friday, she gets called at 2:30pm by the office, asking if she could reschedule. She said no, and said she couldn't take off another day of work and that she was experiencing some pain. The guy said ok but there would be a wait. Upon arrival, the receptionist said there would be no wait. The receptionist said two fillings (should have been 3), but my fiancé was fine with it since the dentist was going to do the chipped tooth and fill another above it. She was led to a chair. But then she had to wait for TWO HOURS! She had brought her laptop to get some work done but she decided against using it in the chair because that would have been rude and she didn't know she would be waiting so long or when the dentist would arrive. It would have been better if they had let her wait in the waiting room and get stuff done. Finally her dentist arrives and gives her local anesthesia on her right side, both upper and lower, and disappears for 45 MINUTES. Then he comes backs and works on the top tooth (non-chipped). After finishing only the top tooth, he says that they were out of time and that she would need to reschedule for the other tooth! He didn't even work on the chipped tooth that was bothering her!!! This office is unorganized and unprofessional. Scheduling has no idea about operations who is clueless about billing. This is basically the dentist version of a jiffy lube shop, where they do high volume to make up for any clients lost to shoddy treatment. Dentist rotate in throughout the week, with all the examination chairs set up in one large room. Very large corporation feel, with none of their efficiencies and definitely lacking in private office service. Highly recommend going to another dentist. There are many in the area. Got a recommendation from a friend who's also new to the area and found a good dentist (tried him first but was too booked, now I know why). read more

So far I had a great experience yesterday for my consult! Everyone in the office was kind and helped me with any and ALL my crazy questions. Dr Saffner was very nice and patient with me, she went over all my concerns, suggested a few things to me. I told her how I felt and what I wanted and she was ok with what I wanted. My treatment plan is going exactly how I want. Price is a bit high, but in the long run, as long as I am happy and I walk out with a beautiful smile the price will be totally worth it! read more

I still haven't the slightest idea how it came to be, but I showed up to my first consultation. When the time came to see the dentist assistant have x-Rays I should have known this was going to be bad. It's bad enough your mouth gets distorted into all different positions, but it was nothing to what was yet to come. When the time came to see the dentist I was told that I had at least 5 cavities! Never in my life had I had 1, let alone 5! I was told I had beginnings of gingivitis and that it was URGENT I get care asap. So long story short once I was terrified I was told I could begin treatment right away. But first k had to meet with cashier to discuss payment. According to them my insurance wouldn't cover everything and k would be responsible for $900for 1/2 visits. At this point I was like wow, this must be really severe if it costing me this much. I agreed to it because I knew that it could get worse and it had been a looong time since I had been to dentist. I was told a special mouthwash and a a special toothbrush was pivotal in my treatment. Come to find out that was not covered (received bill later on.) $80!!!! I called insurance to notify me of problem, but it was too late. It was considered preventative treatment and it had been done. I am writing this email because I am so very upset right now over the fact that your Newburgh Office has lied and been untruthful to me about my dental care for the past 5-6 years now. I have just today found out that, contrary to what I had been told by the Newburgh Office, I do in fact have enough bone in my mouth for dental implants. I did not, in fact, need to have 8 teeth removed to accommodate partials that have not fit me properly in all these years. That I could not, in fact, have the partials adjusted any more because they could not be adjusted any further. I was also told I would have to "get used to them". So here it is, all these years later, and I am still not used to them. I go religiously every 3-4 months for periodontal maintenance, and thankfully refused to go along with their recommendation that I have additional teeth removed. I am going to another dental office now simply because I needed to have a tooth filled after the filling fell out over the weekend. I was told by the Newburgh office AND the Poughkeepsie office that I first needed to go for a consultation, then an examination because they did not fill the tooth! How ridiculous is that??!?!?! I will be receiving my new implants next month. I am livid at the idea of Aspen Dental getting away with this. I plan on consulting a lawyer regarding my treatment and hopefully will have a case. In the meantime, I will be writing to the local newspapers and any other media I can think of to tell my story. I sincerely hope you do not condone this kind of treatment at all your offices. This has to be one of the worst, most confusing first office visits of my life! I had more xrays taken at this first visit than Ive ever experienced. The xray tech was very nice and professional. I was there for a cleaning but also for a chipped front tooth which is sharp and does create issues for me when talking/eating.....which I did mention to them. Dr. Ryan comes in to a very, not private examination room, and looks in my mouth. Tells me he can see the chip in the front tooth and tells me there are 3 options. He can buff it out, bond the 2 front teeth or veneer the 2 front teeth. He tells me I have a small cavity which will need to be addressed. I am then escorted back to the front desk area where I meet with Lisa who tells me the cost out of pocket for the bonding and the veneers...asks me what I want to do. I told her I would need to discuss with my DH and then says, well call us when you decide what you want to do. I am then told to have a nice day and shown to the door. Really? No mention of cleaning appointment, I am not sent home with a written treatment plan, as indicated on their website for the "first visit". I'm back in my car thinking to myself that they took a bunch of xrays, let me walk out with a sharp, chipped tooth and no cleaning appointment scheduled. Im exactly in the same position I was an hour earlier! I was so confused and floored by this, I didn't ask about it. Horrid! Waited months for an appointment for a cleaning. Waited 48 minutes in waiting room. Waited 24 minutes In chair. Had cleaning. Sensitive for 3 weeks. 3 months later, pain in back of mouth. 2 wks before I could get appointment. Went to another dentist. Got appointment next day-wisdom tooth has to come out but cleaning recommended. At new dentist cleaning-CHUNKS of junk left behind from Aspen cleaning-per new dentist hygienist. I felt I had to write a review after reading the one below. I read that one prior to having work done, but after paying to get the work started. I was really nervous and wondering what I had gotten into. Well let me say that the work was outstanding! The office was more than helpful and friendly. The only thing I didn't like was the phone of the dental assistant beeping while my extractions where taking place. Keep in mind that I have a genetic disorder that has had me a dentists on a regular basis since I was 12. I couldn't recommend DR.LEE more. The office is always on time and I wait no more that 5 min in the waiting room and another max of 5 in the chair. Also, I get compliments on my smile everytime I see a friend that I haven't seen since the procedure. I am 33 and it is important to me to have a nice white smile. Dr. J. Jeong is a douchebag!! Waited over 3 hours there for this guy!!! The place seems nice and available when no one else can see you on a holiday, but once they get you in they treat you like it's a damn inconvenience to work on you and fit you in!! It's such bull shit!! If they don't want to work on people and have the attitude like he's doing us the favor, then we don't have to ever come back and pay you for shit ever again!!! If you don't want to work on people.....Then don't fucking do it!!! We're doing you the favor by bringing you business, you treat your patients like gold, not like shit douchebag!!!
