Insurance fraud - thief. Actual rating is negative 100. NH Attorney general needs to get involved and shut this place down. They will max your insurance with unneeded procedures and most are only covered 50% so your on the hook. My regular dentist didn't take my new insurance so my daughter and I went here. My teeth are fine and just needed xrays and regular cleaning. After the xrays they said "We can't do regular cleaning you need scaling and root planeing, irrigation, etc." A few appointments and couple hundred $ later they say come back in 3 months so we can do more perio stuff... I said no I'm done with that. I waited 6 months to go back for a regular cleaning. They won't do it they wanted another $200+ to do more unneeded stuff and would not provide a basic cleaning. I had to walk out before I throttled someone. That's not the worst part! My 21 YO daughter has great teeth and has gone to our family dentist every 6 months since she was 2, went in for xrays and cleaning. She has never had a cavity and was just seen by our dentist 6 months prior with no issues. Aspen did 360 Xray (Unnecessary) and took pictures of all her teeth which she said was painful and burned her mouth (also unnecessary). After that, all of a sudden she has gingivitis and 5 cavities!!!!!!!! Their treatment plan was for deep cleaning, irrigation and 5 fillings over 4 different appointments and costing $600+ (after insurance). We refused treatment. I was so skeptical we had her records transferred back to our dentist for a second opinion. This was an issue unto itself! We had to make multiple requests (they supposedly lost paperwork on first request) and both me and her mother had to call and insist that they send it before they actually did the transfer 2-3 months after the initial request. Then they sent low resolution xrays, I can only assume on purpose. Anyway I paid cash for her cleaning at our dentist and she had NO CAVITIES in any teeth including the teeth indicated on her treatment plan! Two teeth need to be watched but were not cavities as of yet and he already knew about those. THIS PLACE WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO DRILL INTO AT LEAST 3 (REALLY 5) HEALTHY TEETH IN A 21 YEAR OLD WHO HAS NEVER HAD A CAVITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got screwed too but as a parent this is absolutely unbelievable and infuriating! I can only believe they saw a 21 year old girl (ringer) who they could run their insurance scam on and wouldn't know the difference... Beware of this dentist! My mother is in her late 80's and after her dental benefits were used up with "treatment" at this facility, she was conned into opening a care credit account under false pretenses. She is on a fixed income and was pushed onto this credit for more dental work. These employees told her she would not have any accrued interest if the balance was paid off/payments made on time and allowed her to accrue over $4,000 in dental work. As you can see she has nothing to show for this "work." However, after a short time the interest kicked in and her monthly payments were way over what is manageable for her and is now on a payment plan. If work had actually been done, this wouldn't be as much of an issue but she has nothing to show for it, is in pain, and needs significant work done. She got a partial plate from here that has caused consistent pain and bleeding due to its poor fit, which they can't seem to get right. She cannot wear this at times when she should be able to. I called the office manager directly (conference with my mom) to question how she could have accrued over $4k in work when she has nothing to show for it. The office manager began listing all of the things that were done to her with no explanation as to why her teeth look like this. This place has been reported to care credit for poor practices. This place will rip you off and take advantage of vulnerable people. Now my mom is on the hook for over $4k of dental work and is embarrassed of her teeth and is in pain. This office should reverse all of her charges as they did nothing for her! We will be pursuing legal action unless this is made right by Aspen dental. Photos added! read more

Do Not Use Them Run! My son needed a cleaning. Has perfect teeth. Over 20 years old never a cavity. Not One. Religiously cares for his teeth. Brushes after every time he eats. June he goes in for a cleaning, but they wouldn't clean just took X rays and said he had inflamed gums. They want to do a gum wash (never heard of such a thing). Need a new appointment but can't leave until I pay $70. The next appoint comes. My husband carries the Dental insurance he says this next appointment clean my sons teeth ONLY !!! Receptionist says okay you have a $70 credit if you just want a cleaning. I meet with the doctor and my son and the receptionist (Cleaning Only - We All Agree) now after the phone call the $70 credit is magically only $19. I say find , "Just Clean His Teeth!" My son sits in the chair and said, "I'm here for a teeth cleaning only." Doctor ignores 3 requests doesn't clean his teeth and instead gives him a painful gum washing that involved numbing gel shoved up the gums. My son said "Is this a normal teeth cleaning because it hurts? Dentist says YES ! My son is done then the receptionist said you owe $16.00 and your son needs a 3rd visit to have his teeth cleaned. WHAT! WHAT! They lie, cheat, rack up bills insurance will not cover. My son is in pain from the procedure. They had no answers as to why they did the procedure 3 people insisted they do not do! Had a crown installed a year and a half ago. Had no issues with the tooth but paid to have it done. After the crown was installed couldn't bite down on it without some discomfort and went back 4x, once during a checkup, for them to grind on it to try to make it better. It did get a little better each time but never went away. Learned to live with it and adjust my chewing. Well, it just broke off while eating dinner. Have relocated to another state since then. Called Aspen corporate to see if local office would provide any assistance. They emailed local office and said the office would contact me within 48 hrs. No response after a 1.5 weeks. Will now have to spend thousands for a root canal to get fixed elsewhere. Not happy with The quality of service and not supporting their work. Go elsewhere for dental care. read more

Unprofessional and thiefs. My sister came in to have your wisdom teeth removed. They told her it would be $2500. We paid the full amount and than they scheduled the surgery a month later. On the day the surgery they told us we have to pay an extra $500 because some specialist noticed something extra. If we had known the actual cost at the start we could have shopped around. Very nice staff. Unfortunately I can't give above a three star due to organizational purposes. I had to get a cap put on one of my teeth and two appointments turned into five appointments. Due to understaffing and wrong time slots assigned. I also was going to get impressions for a night guard and right before the impression I asked about my cavity being filled. They fail to recognize and inform me prior to coming in that I would have to get a new night guard once the cavity was filled in. Because I was there for also a cleaning we decided to reschedule the impression for the day I get the cavity filled. Lack of communication almost cost me hundreds of dollars. First and last time customer. McDonald's of dentistry. Stretching out exams/cleanings into 4 appointments that would have been done in two anywhere else. Rude customer service that is unhelpful with answering billing and appointment questions. 60% upfront fee just to schedule a procedure appointment, not to mention they Don't even check with insurance first -who said they cover more than the deposit I paid. I have insurance and they will not tell me if I will have to pay an additional amount for a regular cleaning appointment. They want me to have a full exam, x-rays, and then they will tell me what the cost will be. I just want to know if my insurance is going to cover the cost of the cleaning or if I have to pay an additional amount because what the insurance pays doesn't match what they charge. IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! I originally went to this place (at the end of March) because I broke a tooth and they were the only ones able to fit me in for an "emergency" appointment. I got asked repeatedly if I wanted to do the "new patient" exam, and I had to explain several times I was there just for the broken tooth. I got a few x-rays and I got told that I needed a crown but they didn't know if I needed a root canal; and that was the end of my visit! I WAS SENT OUT THE DOOR WITH A SHARP BROKEN TOOTH!!! I needed to get the thing fixed, so I scheduled the next appointment, I was quoted at ~$300 for the crown, and ~$500 if I needed a root canal on top of it, then I got charged %60 of the first number just to schedule the damn appointment. I got seen next the first week of April for the crown prep, found out I needed a root canal and was given a temporary filling; went up front to schedule the root canal, and the earliest they could get their SINGLE orthodontist to see me would be the first week of May. I got put on a cancellation list (at this point the dentist expressed her concern about waiting so long); I never got a call so I don't know if anyone actually cancelled. Fast forward to the root canal appointment: I showed up ~15 min early, and waited ~30 minutes before I was seen. Then instead of going to the back to be seen, I went to the check-out/billing counter to go over some costs. The tall blonde there (Kate I think her name is) gave me a quote for the confirmed work at about ~$895; I then told her that I was quoted at $500 for the root canal/crown procedure and she literally said to me "I don't know where that would have come from", and gave me a dark look when I showed her the printed quote I got from their office. At this point I got rushed into deciding if I wanted to continue treatment or not since we were already 15 minutes into my scheduled appointment! I said yes because I wasn't going to sit with a crumbling temporary filling in my mouth for who knows how long. I started looking through all the numbers and on my next appointment I showed up very early to sit down and talk to someone about it, and I got the same woman again. I told her that some of the estimates don't match up based on my coverage and she told me "If the insurance pays more then we'll just issue a refund". I explained to her that the quote I was given for the crown was based at %55 coverage, not the %80 my insurance covers, and she told me she could send in a predetermination request....WHY WASN'T THIS DONE FIRST!? How in the world do you give patients estimates without getting predetermination of coverage from their insurance? After this appointment I called my insurance company and thankfully they were more accommodating. I ended up talking with someone from Contract Compliance and they looked over my EOB and the estimates that I was given, and based on coverage for this area, Aspen Dental was trying to overcharge me by nearly $500. At this point I was still throwing money at the $895 quote because I would be responsible for it if the insurance company couldn't straighten everything out, and I'd already dropped ~$650 into this fiasco. I got an email not long before my crown appointment from the insurance stating that I had overpaid and shouldn't owe anything when they put the crown in; which was the case (a break finally!). I spoke to the insurance company about a week later to make sure I didn't owe anything and they confirmed. I spoke to Aspem and they told me that they had to wait for the check to be mailed to them, then to NY for proceeding (why?) and to give the refund a few weeks. I called this past monday (6/25) and the check had apparently JUST cleared and they could send me a refund...but they only do them once a week. I finally got everything squared away today (almost exactly 3 months since the original appointment). AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!! read more

This was my fourth and final trip to Aspen dental. Today was the icing on the cake after they called for two weeks to remind me of my appointment as well as receiving an email. I showed up a few minutes before my scheduled meeting and no one was at the front desk. I wrote down my name and patiently waited for 15 min only to be told they didn't have me scheduled. The assistant went to the back after and spoke with someone else who claimed she attempted to contacted me just this morning stating that a hygienist called in and the number she called was disconnected. It apparently wasn't the the same number they called the last two weeks on. Do not attempt to schedule appointments with them. They've also set me up with a recommended schedule of coming every 4 months for me to pay out of pocket because as they attempt to leach every dime out of your pocket without notice but know fare well what your insurance company is capable of. So when you do give them a call and are placed on hold right away, let that be a deterrent and a fore warning that I did let you know before hand. Good luck! read more

Let me tell you about the most horrific experience I have ever had at a dentist! I went to Aspen because I had a toothache and needed relief. They were kind enough to schedule my appointment for the same day. I made my appointment for 4pm and then received a call saying they were double booked so it got pushed up to 3pm. No biggie! I arrive and fill out paperwork as expected. Then I am taking to a room for a 3D X-ray. No pain ,went well. Then they subjected me to the painful X-rays. Ok still no biggie. Expected that. Then they put me in this alcove where a hygienist comes in and tortures me by poking at my gums and reciting numbers to her fellow worker. At this point I am getting frustrated but I am still expecting relief soon so it is ok. In comes the angel of a dentist. She looks at my teeth and my xrays and says I need a plate and do I want her to schedule an oral surgeon to take out my painful tooth and would I rather she just pull it. I weigh the costs and decide to have her pull it. She says I need antibiotics and we agree to schedule the removal of my tooth for a few days later. Then the torture begins!!!! She walks me to the front office to schedule the tooth removal but that is not what is happening. This pissed off woman who has a very angry look on her face sits me down and hands me a bill for $5803. Yes that is five thousand eight hundred and three dollars. It is an estimate of all this work I need done pronto. By the way I have dental insurance that is covering this. The cost is after the insurance. When I tell her I don't have almost $6000 in my pocket she says you only need to put $3700 done and you can pay the rest in 6 months. When I say I need to talk to my husband about it, she says well I need you to give me a $50 deposit to schedule your extraction. At this point I think I am being punked. They have done absolutely nothing besides hurt me and tell me I need all this dental work. The only kind person is the dentist who numbed my tooth so I could breath with crying. I go in my purse to give her my debit card but notice it isn't there. As I am panicking and looking for my card, the b**** is saying I need to cancel your appointment if you can't put the $50 deposit down to extract my tooth. The cost of extracting the tooth is $86. Not $860.00 but $86.00. I leave in a panic about that happened to my debit card worried that somebody is charging thousand of dollars on my bank account. As I leaving she reminds me if I don't call her by 7pm with my debit card numbers, she will cancel my appointment. It is literally 5pm and she just gave me a 2 hour window to find my debit card. As I cry the whole way home about where is my card and where am I going to find $6000 for a sore tooth, I realize they did nothing! N O T H I N G ! When I get home I find the debit card and breathe a sigh of relief but my tooth is starting to hurt again. I tell my family about this and they tell me that I am right and that the woman who is trying to threaten me into giving her my debit card is the wrong one. I decide I have already missed my 7pm deadline so I guess I need to find another dentist. Fast forward to Monday at 4:15 pm. I am sitting at work when my phone rings and they want to know why I missed my appointment. I explain that I assumed it was canceled and tell them the whole story. They reschedule me for the next day to take the tooth out. I feel like ok here we go. It was just one person who was crazy so let's just get the tooth out and get on with the dental work I need. I go there and the angel dentist removes the tooth and it hurts but I will be ok. She gives me a prescription for 2 percocets. I understand the opioid crisis so even that doesn't offend me. I am a nurse so I understand. 2 days later I call Aspen dental and say I would like to proceed with my needed dental work but I need to plan it so I get half done now and half done in January. I speak with the same woman who made me feel like criminal when my debit card was missing. I tell her I have a sonicare tooth brush so I don't need the $150 she put on my estimate. I also say I just want a regular cleaning and to schedule my extractions and plate. She tells me she needs to talk to the dentist because it would be neglect to not get the deep cleaning,periodontal scaling and root planing, gingival irrigation, and antibacterial rinse. (Which by the way my dental insurance covers at 80% per the policy but Aspen says only covers 60%) Forgive me if I am wrong but I thought as a human being and American that I am the only one who can say what is done to my body. She calls me back 2 hours later and says the dentist insists you get all the required services and when would you like me to schedule it for? I then tell her never mind I will get a new dentist. Not so happy. Most of the persons working at Aspen Rote 101A in Amherst NH are nice, professional and have a good attitude with customer service. Except they never return calls. I say most except the cashier girl you checkout with. I have been there several times now. She was supposed to follow up with another appointment and never did call. She is nasty and seems to spend a lot of effort trying to force treatments and sell additional treatments to get more money. Waited over 20 min for a scheduled apt with the hygienist. The hygienist was knowledgeable and friendly.. The check out process took over 45min due to the Aspen Dental policies and the system was not able to resolve their issues while I patiently waited. After 30 min of this, they said I could leave but I still haven't received a call saying things were all set with my account. 5/21/2018. Had 4 wisdom teeth extracted a month before. Not much of an issue there. The problem arose today when I was calling my insurance company trying to get a status of my refund. Dental ins paid for most of it. Aspen dental said they do not file with medical and I would have to do that. I did. My insurance company accidentally sent the refund to Aspen Dental, not me. So the insurance rep and I called them. The office manager, Kaylin P., hardly let us get a word in and would speak over us. The red flags started going up when she was stating that she could not speak to my insurance rep without my approval. Good thing I was on the phone. I ok'd. Then the OM started talking about how these are estimates. My insurance rep said they have agreed upon prices in their contract with my insurance co. Even I could not get a word in. Kaylin said I had to come in the office to speak to her. It was clear that she did not want my insurance rep correcting her. I was starting to get the "this place is shady feeling". I had a fantastic experience at the dentist. What!? Yep, at the dentist. I'm normally petrified about going to the dentist but they put me at ease and had me laughing in no time. The young lady that performed my x-rays was hysterical, yet professional, and my hygienist was excellent. The brief interaction that I had with Dr. Shah was pleasant and made me comfortable with my issue.
