Five stars just doesn't seem…read morelike enough to rate somebody who played such a vital part in helping my child overcome the fear, anxiety and debilitation of OCD. My son has struggled with anxiety since he was four, often developing little ticks that only his dad and I noticed. It seemed harmless though as each tick only lasted a couple months. At 6, he became very anxious going to school and in social situations. This became a bit worrisome, so we began trying to talk through ways to help him feel more comfortable with the big goal being him going onto the playground before school (big scary stuff for him). After a school year of working up to the big goal, he still wasn't ready and we tabled the goal for 2nd grade. During summer break (2015), what we thought was only anxiety went from bad to worse. He began hurting himself repeatedly without any ability or control to stop it. He would stick his finger to the back of his throat over and over until his throat was red and raw. My husband and I had to monitor our son 24 hours a day to help him overcome the urges, and it seemed like it was almost causing him pain to deny them. We called Kimberly immediately and she made room for us to come in in just a few days. After meeting him, Kimberly diagnosed him with OCD. The first day our son met Kimberly, he came out of therapy with more hope and peace than we'd seen in days. He was literally armed with tools to help him through what we now know were compulsions. The tools were effective and practical and began to work immediately. After approximately 3 months of therapy, our family was fully equipped with the tools and knowledge to support my son and we only schedule occasional check-ins with Kimberly. Degan, our son, has only had one instance since our last appointment with a compulsion, but he quickly utilized the tools Kimberly gave him and overcame it in seconds. And shortly after his last appointment, my son stepped onto the playground at school 10 full minutes before the bell. Yes, this is a long review, but I imagine our story will resonate with many of you and I hope you let Kimberly get you to a happier ending like us!

It is a hard thing to muster up and do but I knew it was in my sons best interest to find him someone he could talk to about controlling his behaviors/ emotions. Since the day we started I knew that call would end up being one of the best things I have ever done and that she was going to be a great fit. Little did I know that the change would happen pretty fast and that it wouldn't just change his behavior but the dynamic in our family and home and pretty much every area of his life. As we are about to end our program it almost saddens me that we won't see her often but it's comforting to know she will always be in our corner. In our search for a speech therapist as a mom of a 2 year old boy, I found that many of the…read moreproviders covered by PPO insurance had 6-12 month long waitlists. The ones that don't give real...dmv vibes. My husband and I explored about 10+ providers (some covered by insurance and some not...lynne alba, learning tree, OC speech, etc.) between Long Beach and Orange County. What we learned is: 1. Choose a provider that wants you (mom and dad) involved in the process. Sessions build the foundation and it then can be enforced at home 2. Choose a provider that isn't overloaded with clients so you can get a higher quality of care 3. Kids want to talk when they're excited so a dog for example can really help break the ice and allow your child to open up. That said, our experience with Jen has been phenomenal! She truly cares about my son and she's a mom herself so she knows how family dynamics can be and is understanding of that. She keeps us involved and truly goes above and beyond. This past halloween she coordinated a trick-or-treat tour with the nearby offices for her kids to have fun with! She challenges my son so that he is constantly moving to the next level with his speech. The dog Francis is such a great helper! Sometimes the dog does nothing but stick by my son's side and that is enough and we love it. I had the opportunity of hearing Hayley speak in a NMS class, but when I saw she was offering her own series I knew I needed to sign up. My daughter is newly 1 and I found all of the class topics and resources extremely beneficial and helpful for my husband and I. Hayley cares about your personal parenting stories, difficulties and even shares from her own experiences. Even though the class typically meets in person I did not feel that the zoom environment took away from the experience at all. It actually made it a lot easier and flexible for me. The best part of the class for me was the ability to ask questions every week in regards to issues I was currently experiencing. Hayley was able to give me immediate guidance, support and resources to look at for help. I felt that hearing other people's struggles and stories also helped me in feeling supported. I am walking away from this class with tons of information, guidance and resources! So much that I will need to go back and refer to. I also have multiple authors, handouts, articles that have helped shape and transform my parenting methods. I am also walking away with an entirely new understanding of how kids grow, learn and behave. We've had the opportunity to work with several wonderful therapists, and we're grateful for all of them. I'd also like to mention his speech therapists, Ms. Dana and Ms. Jena, and Mr. Joseph (OT therapist) to who have been such an important part of his progress. They've taken the time to get to know my son, incorporate his interests into each session, and keep him engaged and motivated to learn. They also do a great job keeping us involved by sharing his progress after each session and giving us ideas for what we can continue working on at home. Watching my son grow in his communication skills has been incredibly rewarding. My 8 year old daughter was being teased about not being able to say her R's. Adults and children…read morealike would mimic her speech and a rude child on the soccer field pointed out the irony that her name had R's in it but she couldn't say them. Her name begins and ends with R, and she began to avoid saying her name when introducing herself or when people would ask her name. This broke my heart and solidified the need to seek speech therapy. She began therapy in February 2024 with Mikayla, and by October/November she had made drastic improvements in the ability to say R's but the habit of saying R sounds the old way was hard to break. It is now January 2025 and our insurance has changed so she is no longer able to attend therapy, but I am so happy to report that she has now mostly broken the habit of saying R's the old way all on her own without reminders, and most importantly can confidently say her own name. I also want to thank Karen for her diligence in working with my insurance company getting the claims paid.
