My first dinner at Hyatt Vivid was at this restaurant and it left me impressed! Restaurant is at the entrance of the resort and it makes you feel like you are going to an independent restaurant. We did not have a reservation but they accommodated us. It is best if you make a reservation ahead of time. Their selection of cocktails included some exclusive to this restaurant and sounded delicious and a nice combination of Asian flavors with local fruits. I went with the Kioto that was a great blend of aged rum, passion fruit puree, tamarind water, iced tea and simple syrup. My mom loved her fish dinner. I very much enjoyed my tiraditos and sashimi. We wrapped up our dinner with ginger ice cream. Service was excellent and food arrived promptly. I wish I've known ahead which days they were closed as they rotate restaurants. Wish we had come here sooner. Asiana was my personal favorite restaurant at the all-inclusive, and I really liked that it is located right at the front entrance of the Hyatt. We did not need reservations and were seated quickly upstairs. They were not strict about the dress code, which was appreciated. Asiana is a great restaurant just at the entrance of Hilton. What's nice about the location is you don't have to enter the hotel to experience it, so it doesn't feel like a "hotel establishment." The food was excellent. I tried the Thai lettuce tacos, spring rolls and tuna tartar duo for appetizers. The tuna and salmon sat abed a crunchy cracker/wafer that were excellent. The Beijing chicken and Yakemishi (Japanese rice with chicken) were delicious with perfect sweet flavors. The matcha cheesecake didn't taste like cheesecake but it was a delectable explosion of flavors in my mouth. We dined here for dinner two nights of our four night stay at the Hilton Playa del Carmen. Great food and great service. We asked to have the gyoza pan fried and the chef accommodated. It was really good. The braised pork belly was the best braised pork belly I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and flavorful throughout. We followed this with chicken and curry . It was a little bland but still tasted very nice. Husband had the duck stir fry with a side of fried rice and absolutely adored it. This was included in our all inclusive package. It was closed last September for renovation when we last came. Good thing they had opened because we definitely wanted to try it out. The service and staff were exceptional--they deserve 5 stars. The food and ambiance, not too great. The ambiance felt "grey". It did not make you feel like you were at an Asian restaurant. I get it, You're in Mexico, but some little touches to make it feel like you're in an Asian restaurant would've been nice. The food, the food was not good. Sushi was stale and kind of sour, it had a tangy taste. I love sushi, we're from SoCal and try lot of different sushi places this was by far one of the worse lol. The sushi didn't taste fresh, it tasted like refrigerated sushi from Costco and Trader Joe's lol. The pad Thai 1/5 was not good either, it was drenched in sauce and extremely sweet--it tasted more like a desert. The matcha cheese cake was not good, the consistency of the cheese cake was odd, the ratio to breading was like 70% breading, 30% cheese cake. I don't want to seem critical, but the food was not good at all--good thing it was included in our all inclusive package because I would definitely not pay to eat here. Since we're in Mexico, we'll stick to eating Mexican food. It was nice to have some variety though just to mix up your palate if you want to take a break from Mexican food. read more

I had a nice experience at Asiana! It's not the best restaurant on this resort, but I certainly liked everything I ate. We started with some sushi, which was good, but VERY SMALL BITES!! Beware that the sashimi is very thin and the rolls are about 1/3 of the size you'd get elsewhere. The main courses of broccoli and beef and cumin pork noodles were both very good. I saw another reviewer mention that this was "outside" the resort and that she wanted to feel "safer," but I couldn't disagree more. This is literally steps away from the entry to the resort, and the whole damn area around this resort is safe! We walked around quite a bit. There's a huge police presence and most of the people around town are tourists. What's the point in choosing a resort that's so public if you don't want to actually experience a bit of the Mexican culture? It's just plain silly, if you ask me. We did Asiana twice during our 5 night stay. Torn between 3/4 stars. By resort food standards, this is a 4-star. By Asian food in America standards, this is a 3-star. Service is great and it's quick. Michelle (spelling) was a fast and friendly server. If you're staying at Hilton Playa Del Carmen, everything on the menu is free unless they have a lobster special. Drinks are free, but mostly taste like free resort drinks. Things I liked: -spring rolls: 2 per order so get a few. Sauce is good and they nice and hot and crunchy. -Thai soup: my favorite on the menu. Good amount of chicken and the broth is pretty good -steak and broccoli entree: not huge, but good flavor and has a little spice -the teriyaki meals: salmon, chicken, and steak were all very good. Come with tempura fried veggies which is cool and rice. Meat is super tender. -fried ice cream. Self explanatory. Things that I thought could be better: -wonton soup: they use fried wontons, which is not what I was hoping for texture wise -rice: although it tastes good, it was off-putting seeing that they microwave it for like 15 seconds to get it up to temp and formed in the little bowls before they send it out. -sushi: most of the rolls I was considering had cream cheese which I don't like in my sushi. Didn't taste bad but they need more variety without it other than the California roll Suggestions: -steamed wontons for the soup -more spicy options -no microwaves should be visible in an open kitchen -more sushi without cream cheese -speciality drink menu (every resort restaurant needs this) so guests don't have to order the same things everywhere. Design a few drinks with the free liquors that pair well with your foods. Small concept that could make the dining experience that much better. Like mai tais or sangria variations. Something that's light and refreshing. I had sangria, but it was the same everywhere. This was our second favorite place to eat on the resort. If you're staying at the Hilton, come here early in your stay. You might wanna come back a second time! read more

Before you all go looking, Asiana is located outside the resort. You would think they would build the restaurant so it's more of a secluded resort but no, you have to walk outside your resort to eat at this restaurant. The idea wasn't the best just because most people want to feel safe in a 4 to 5 star resort especially being in Mexico. Ernesto was our server and he was incredible. He was attentive and kind to us. Everything we asked for he went above and beyond to make us happy. The food here was decent but Mexico isn't known for sushi but they did alright. We ordered: -Spring Rolls (4/5): This is more of an egg roll but with vegetables inside because spring rolls are usually in rice paper and not fried but hey it tasted pretty good so hip hip hooray! Tasted so good we ordered 3 of them. -Salmon Nigiri (3.5/5): Wasn't the best salmon I've ever had. Didn't taste as fresh. -Eel Nigiri (3.5/5): Quite large piece but didn't taste as fresh. -Rainbow Sushi (3/5.5): Mediocre -Tabasco (3.5/5): My husband enjoyed this roll. I for one, thought it was ok as well. -Vietnamese Roll Salad (2.5/5): Mm the idea was kinda off.. it was like a spring roll thrown on a dish and cut in half. It wasn't much of a salad in my opinion. -Flank Steak with Tamarind (4/5): Best dish in this whole resultant. The steak was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were sautéed magnificently. This dish is why I'll come back here. It was delicious. I could eat 10 of these dishes. Yes 10. Highly recommend. If you're staying at the resort and you are a sushi connoisseur like myself, just give this place a try. It's not your typical Nobu or Uchi but it's decent for Mexico. read more

We chose this restaurant on our first night staying at The Royal. It's just out front of the hotel, not attached as the others are but still included in your all inclusive package. To start we ordered the rainbow roll and spicy tuna roll. They were very heavy in rice and lacking in fish. They come in 4's as opposed to 6 or 8 and are very small. I suggest ordering more than two if there are more than two people at your table. For my main meal I ordered the duck with steamed rice and veggies and my boyfriend got the Thai beef. Both were amazing. My duck had a great flavor to it. The sauce on it was lightly sweet and tangy. It was cooked perfectly and not greasy like most duck dishes. My boyfriends Thai beef was wonderful! The beef was cooked perfectly and so tender. The sauce was very light and complimented the beef well. It came with steamed broccoli and a side of steamed rice. The restaurant itself is very beautiful. Decorated well without being overdone. The noise level can get pretty loud. Service was good. Not the best. Our servers were so nice but not very quick. Our group enjoyed the sashimi- we got the shrimp, scallops, octopus, tuna, and salmon. The soy sauce in Mexico is sweeter and the wasabi doesn't really have a kick to it so you'll have to ask for a lot of wasabi if you like that kick. The shrimp dishes here are good. Out of all of the restaurants we went to at the resort, this was definitely our favorite! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Jaime with a massive smile. I loved the menu. It had Chinese and Japanese food. It was delicious. I will mention that the sushi here isn't really to die for. Mexico really isn't the place to seek out sushi but I'm sure that there are some places that have great sushi. I would recommend the Chinese and Japanese dishes. I fell in love with the Duck Asilao with steamed rice. Oh my gosh. This is the best dish on their menu. I've never had duck that was cooked so perfectly. We also ordered the Kion Chon Beef Filet w/ fried rice. We also had the teppanyaki dishes. These were also great. But the best part? The Tempura Ice Cream. So what if I'm lactose intolerant? THIS WAS WORTH IT. We made it a habit to come to this restaurant daily during our stay just for the tempura ice cream. And each time, Jaime, our server, was friendly, welcoming and engaging.
