We were abit underwhelmed today with our food. The egg rolls were very greasy and no hot mustard available. The pork with veggies had very large bok choy pieces and too much fat on the pork. The chicken chow mein lacked flavor. To end it we had fortune cookies that were stale. Not a great meal today. Maybe they have new owners? It used to be much better. read more

Even though I grew up on the east coast, getting to the ocean was difficult when you were a kid in the Bronx with one working parent and not much money. But I do remember many summers when my Mom and Grandma would pack up a canteen filled with hard-boiled eggs, plums, grapes and cheese and off we would go to Orchard Beach, a public beach available to low income homes. Great memories of sitting on the sand with my family, swimming in the Atlantic ocean and watching my Grandma peel an egg for me with love. So, it's no surprise when I moved to North Carolina that I was aching to have a little place by the water. In the recession of 2009 my dream came true and I bought a little 900 ft cabin on Oak island, a 10 minute walk from the ocean. During the pandemic this has been a lifesaver. Being able to jump in my car, drive directly to my place as I enjoy the beauty of Oak Island's ocean and Southport's Marina is heavenly and COVID safe!. When Mom was alive we used to love to drive to Southport to Asian Taste and order the egg foo young combo special. For less than $10 you get this huge portion that comes with fried rice and egg roll. So delicious, so scrumptious, so appetizing and so affordable! In honor of Mom and out of recognition of their delicious food, a trip down to my place in Oak Island rarely happens without me stopping by Asian Taste in Southport to get my Brunswick County fix!. I appreciate their sensitivity during COVID in that they are not allowing any indoor dining since the space is small. The counter is pretty much wrapped in plastic so there is not much interaction or fear of passing or catching anything. I always grab a few soy sauce packets on my way out. I continue to order the egg foo young special and also enjoy their egg drop soup. I try not to eat all the fried noodles on the way back to my house but I'm not always successful! LOL But nothing beats getting back to my cozy little place, sitting out on my screen porch and opening up all my goodies as I hear the ocean in the distance. I honestly cannot tell you about the other dishes and many combo specials that they have although friends and family have ordered them and were always very satisfied. Being a creature of habit, I keep going back to egg foo young and whether it's vegetable, shrimp or pork, it always hits the spot. I feel just like a kid of 10 when my grandparents took us out for Chinese food, and I coldn't wait until the end of the meal for that delicious little fortune cookie and finding out what my future holds! So here's the deal folks... COVID or not, get in the car and head to the beach. It's one of the few places today where we can walk free and have little fear of the pandemic. It's so easy to be socially distant on the beach and no chance of catching anything eating a big bowl of egg drop soup and a heaping portion of Chinese food on my porch other than a full belly. As I finished my takeout the other day and walked along the beach during sunset I was so taken back by the beauty of it all and the irony that the world can still look so breathtaking and yet the deadly pandemic looms over us. I'm counting on us all getting through this and having a big party of Asian Taste on the beach and celebrating...with a fortune cookie of course!!! read more

Chinese takeout, but really really good. The size and flavor of the meats in my dish were better than any Chinese takeout I've had anywhere. They also use good rice, not typical cheap takeout rice, which makes it that much better. read more

On Tuesday 24 May 2022, aprox 8pm , I just purchased a chicken Fried rice and Wings meal from this Chinese Restaurant, Asian Taste , and the Chicken wings taste Horrible and meat was tough, This was my first and last time eating or going to this restaurant, and the Customer service was terrible due to fact the Lady front desk was rude, Poor customer service . read more

New to Southport and was looking for a Chinese food restaurant. Saw Asian Taste had many good reviews so we tried it. The food was great, fresh and good portions. We had sesame chicken with pork fried rice combo. The sesame chicken had small bites of chicken which was good and fresh. Sauce is good too. The portion of rice was a lot and was good too. Egg roll comes with the meal and the combos were reasonably priced. Also ordered the sweet and sour chicken. Same thing food was great and the sauce was very good. Orders BBQ ribs with the bone, the ribs and a lot of meat on them and the sauce was good. Very happy with the meals: all food was fresh, good portions and good price. Highly recommend read more

It appears that others are having a few consistency issues here, this is not something my family has experienced, and we put it to the ultimate test about a month ago. We had some family from New York City in town. These are folks used to getting the best of the best when it comes to Chinese take-out, and they would let you know if any of it was not good in a heartbeat. It was their last night here, and in total, we numbered up to 16 people. We didn't want to fight the crowds for a table that large at any of the restaurants in town, and we had gotten sick of pizza. I suggested chinese take-out, and though I was met with skepticism, I convinced this rowdy crew to give it a chance. We ordered a ton of food. I mean... people just started circling stuff on that menu, all over the place. When we called to place the order on the phone, there is a chance the owner might have been in a little bit of shock at the sheer size of it... In total, we got just under $250 worth of stuff. To me, a lot of money, to a New Yorker... chump change for such a large order. When we went to pick it up, they were still preparing it, so we had to wait a short time. Happy to do so for fresh food. When it came out, we had to load two large boxes into the back of the SUV and carry a couple bags. We basically had ordered our own miniature chinese buffet. The owner helped us get it all packed in and was very thankful for the business. Once we got it all laid out back at home, the delicious smells filled the air, and all the food was piping hot. Everyone dug in and was very happy. The fried items were crisp and warm, the spicy items had a little bite but also great flavor. The Lo Mein was firm but flavorful, just a little spongy... to me just right. The stand-bys all tasted great, like the General Tso's chicken, the Chow Mein, the Kung pao Shrimp, etc. Some of the more interesting dishes we got, things that I would never really order normally I enjoyed as well. I wish I could recount all of those things, but half the time I didn't know exactly what I ate... just that I enjoyed eating all of it. In general, the NY crowd was satisfied, and even very complimentary of certain things. That must mean those guys did well. I certainly enjoyed it, and would recommend this tiny place to anyone in town looking for good Asian take-out. read more

As a previous Yelper wrote, this is not a place you go to for atmosphere but the food is what you expect at most Chinese takeout places in NC. We ordered Garlic Beef which came with white rice, and Crab Rangoon both of which were served right out of the wok and fryer and were very hot. The food was plentiful and good and filled up two of us for under $12. We will be back when we are in town. read more

We ordered takeout it was ready in 15 minutes. Had wonton soup, really good! Also, had seasme chicken, egg rolls, fried wontons with meat and pan fried pork wontons. Sesame chicken was good and so were the egg rolls, the fried wontons were just so so, the pan fried wontons were really doughy, we though that they may have been pre-packaged frozen pork wontons not made on site. Also, NOT ONE DAMN EMPLOYEE wearing a mask!!! Have these morons heard of covid? They require their customers to wear a mask, so why not one employee wearing a mask??? read more

My wife and I have dined here about half a dozen times, and had takeout twice. Food has been very fresh. Combination Mei Fan noodles have been well done. Sushi is great for a place like we live. About every type of roll you could ask for. Staff has been friendly and paced about right. Good addition to the local scene in Southport. Looks to be popular with people so far. The previous review had me convinced I was going to have a great supper but I was very disappointed. The atmosphere is stark and at 6:30 on a winter Friday night only two people were eating in. I ordered an egg roll- it was fine. The crab Rangoon was piping hot but unusually sweet and the Lo Mein tasted very strange-not all at like lo mein I've had anywhere else or Charlotte, Boston or New York. Surprised by two very good reviews. Based on these, our family of four went to Asian Taste while on vacation in Oak Island. Compared with a similar establishment called Great Wall, near our home outside Frederick, MD, this place is no contender. First, you don't want to eat at Asian Taste unless you have to. It really is a carryout place (as is Great Wall). Second, we did not find the woman at the counter friendly; she was downright surly for the most part, though she did put the soups in separate containers at no extra charge when I told her we were eating there. The soups are just okay, judging by the hot-and-sour soup and the wonton soup. The hot-and-sour tends toward the very spicy side. The one thing that redeems it is a good amount of vegetables. I've had better wonton broth. Asian Taste's chicken broth didn't have a lot of flavor and there was an oily mouthfeel to it. The best dishes to order are any of the Mei Fun (rice noodle) dishes. We got the house special Mei Fun and it was quite good. However, the chicken with snow peas might be the worst rendition of that dish that I've had--served in an oddly dark brown sauce with hoisin(?) which I dislike. We were expecting the more mild white sauce that usually flavors this dish. Also, the chicken was in huge, thin slabs, which was annoying to eat without a knife. Have never seen chicken prepared this way before in Chinese food. read more

Ah - okay is the assessment. Fried Rice would have been great but the overly chewy pork chunks had to be spit out. Sweet and Sour chicken had good promise but grisle snuck in on a bite. We were looking forward to trying something new and had heard from a neighbor this was good Chinese food. We ordered egg rolls which were good and thus the one star. We also ordered hot and sour soup, which was full of vegetables that were cut thick and mostly raw; beef mei fun, which had gristly, fatty and tough beef; and lemon chicken (a chef's recommendation), which had lemon sauce the consistency of lemon juice and no flavor. We have eaten from Tasty Asian twice. Both times we were highly satisfied. We recommended Asian Taste to our neighbors who just tried it this past weekend.
