One (if not the best) of the most authentic Chinese I've had! I ordered the general tso's tofu a half hour out and when I opened it it was piping hot. Drove in from out of town. Saw reviews about it not being dine in. NOT TRUE! You can dine in it just doesn't have the buffet. You can order from the menu like a regular restaurant. The food was GREAT. Service was GREAT. We felt bad because we got there 30 minutes before closing and they took us in. And told me , "we don't care about time, you are welcome to eat and stay as long as you like." Very comforting. My children loved the soup. And my husband love the hot tea and chicken soup. Unsure why this restaurant has 4 stars!?! But, it was surprisingly busy when we arrived, which made us wonder if we found a hidden gem in Raton. Which was even more surprising because this place is DIRTY! There were dead flys on window sills, dust covered lights, sticky tables, dingy carpets. You get the point. There's no buffet due to C19, so it's off menu orders only. And even if it was, it would have been a challenge to get any food as the actual buffet tables were being used as storage. Additionally, there was food being prepped in the dining room, less than 10 feet from our table. The food came fast. From order to service it took around 5 minutes for our appetizers to come out, being followed by our main entrees shortly after. The dishes were extremely hot and also extremely underwhelming. Although portion size was generous, it was a generous amount of tasteless food. We got egg drop soup, which looked the part but was very tasteless although it seemed legit. For my entree I ordered the veggie fried rice and it was essentially nothing more than fried rice with like 10 pieces of vegetables, of which 5 were snap pea pods. Pricing was fair (I guess) for the amount of food you get. Around $25 for x2 of everything soup/app/entrees. However disappointing! The server who I assume was the owner, is the only reason I gave 2 stars. Very friendly but I wish they'd try a bit harder. Sadly, I will not return. Prior to COVID-19, this was the best deal in town, because of their all-you-can-eat buffet, although their food has always been, at best, passable. What they call "hot and spicy" is mild to my Colorado-born-and-bred palate; in other words, when you bite into it, it does not bite you back. It's called "Asian Buffet" but it's really a Chinese restaurant, as they offer no Thai, Vietnamese, Indian or Korean dishes, their only real claim to being more than Chinese an extremely limited (and therefore suspect) selection of sushi rolls. My experience today proved to be the proverbial last straw on a camel's back. It was fairly busy, and they were clearly understaffed, so my instinct was to be generous and forgiving. (1) But after separately asking two employees (my original server, and then a different server, who was also a busser, whom I did not observe washing her hands between bussing and serving) for their homemade mustard for my eggroll, that eggroll cooled to room temperature while it remained uneaten, before the sauce was finally delivered. (2) Having ordered the lunch special, which includes the eggroll and a bowl of soup as appetizers, I selected my choice of soup--but this was never brought to me. Well, I thought, they're busy, and will probably take off a dollar or two if I ask--no big deal and, besides, it had taken close to 15 minutes to get the mustard and did I really want to wait another 15 for the soup? I've been a fairly good customer since I moved here three years ago, and have always tipped generously, typically at 25%. (3) My server asked if I wanted fried rice, but I specified that I wanted steamed rice (their pot of steamed rice is right next to the pot of fried rice on the edge of the dining room, so this was not an exceptional request). And yet, I was still brought fried rice (which also happened to me the previous time I dined there). When I corrected the server who brought it (the busser-server, not the same server who took my order), she took my plate and shoveled the fried rice back into the big pot, leaving about a quarter of it on my plate, then added a scoop of the steamed. (4) When my original server delivered my check, I pointed out that she had never brought my soup, and asked if she would deduct a couple of dollars. She said, "No, I can't do that. I'm not the owner." She offered to bring it to me, then--after I had already finished eating, or to send it home with me, but I had wanted it before I ate a big plate, not afterwards, so I declined. When I told her I would likely not return, she took 50 cents off, and that was all. I paid the check, and for the first time ever I did not leave a tip, though I suppose, in retrospect, I should have left her 50¢. I will not return. Having been "treated" to such poor service and an unwillingness to make things right in a satisfactory way, they have lost more than a half-dollar. They have lost a customer whom they knew by my first name. read more

Honest Review - My girlfriend and I had stopped into town to stay the night and were looking for somewhere to have a nice dinner. I didn't not have high hopes for this place to start off because buffets of any type are not exactly "Gourmet". So here is my opinion... Atmosphere - You can tell this place is probable family run, they have plastic covers on everything just to try and class up the place, which I understand, not everyone is going to speed large amounts of money to make me feel comfy while I'm eating. Service - The staff (family I assume) are all foreign and speak alright english, but I can tell they struggle a little just because the two interactions I had with them were not fluid in any sense of the word. But hey, I'm not worried about that. Good on them for roughing it out in a unfamiliar place. Food - This is the part I have been waiting for, because this is the part that won them the 1 star review. Now I know buffet food is never gonna be mind blowing unless you're in Las Vegas. But damn, the food was comparable to the food prepped for us in middle school. Not a lot of flavor, kinda slimy, and everything tasted a little off from what it should have. What got me to get up and leave without finishing my food at all was that I found 2 of their hairs wrapped around one of the kababs. Now I'm not a food inspector, but I have worked my share of fast food and I know that finding other people's hair in your food is a sure-fire way to lose your FHL. So if you're brave enough to eat there after everything I said, then go for it. We are staying at the KOA across the street and went back to Asian Buffet for a second time tonight. We weren't disappointed. Ordered off the menu this time- egg rolls were still very good and very light and crispy. We both ordered the Triple Delight ( chicken, beef and shrimp ) and asked for slightly spicy. Delicious and just the right amount of heat. All the veggies , except for the baby corn, was fresh. Again, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Monday evening dinner in Raton with wife and grandsons. Young man who greeted us was super accommodating as he was more than happy to prepare a dish for my youngest grandson that was not a menu item. Probably the best Chinese Buffet in the whole of USA. Price is so low, $6.95, foods selection is so wide, so fresh and has wok fire taste! Truly a rare gem! The bosses really know how to do a great business. Most Chinese buffet we had in united have ingredients that are stale or the foods will be extremely salty, sweet or oily to discourage you from eating alot. I guess if you're looking for a cleansing meal and to evacuate your bowels, this is the place to go. So there we were eating at a mostly empty restaurant space with almost nothing but greasy food and overcooked various meats and few veggies. The price was low for a buffet dinner. Food was fresh and hot and quite good! Service was efficient. The men's toilet, though? Icky...needs to be cleaned. I often judge a restaurants overall cleanliness by its bathrooms. What a great find! We got to Raton pretty late, and called in a dinner order to Asian Buffet. Their advertising said they delivered, but when we called they said were short staffed and could not handle delivery. We were towing a trailer we had just gotten nicely parked at the hotel and really didn't want to drive ... so the son of the owner brought our food over as soon as they closed. I was not paying attention to what my 9 year old son selected from the buffet for dessert. I saw he had green jello and something else when he came back to the booth and sat down. While I was trying to convince my 4 year old daughter to eat something before we got back in the car for another 3 hours, my son started eating his jello. All of a sudden, the female manager ran over frantically and stopped him from eating what looked like pistachio ice cream. It was actually a giant scoop of wasabi. Thankfully, she interrupted him before he tucked into it. He thinks the school tacos are too spicy so a heaping spoonful of wasabi would have scarred him for life and maybe sent him to urgent care. What a great find in Raton!! We make the drive from Texas to Colorado often and find ourselves here around lunch or dinner and had always settled for the Arby's right of the free. This is just a couple minutes off the beaten path and well worth it! Everything we tried was good and there was a big variety! There was a steady stream of people coming in for dinner around 7pm on a Saturday and the owners were friendly and welcoming to us and those who were clearly regular customers. The food here is a solid 4 stars. It was hot (always what I look for on a buffet) and had good flavor. Some of the meat was slightly dry but there was good variety for a small town restaurant. The reason i gave 3 stars was because of the bathroom...the cleanest thing in it was the toilet! The walls, floor, door handles, paper towel dispenser....basically everything, was grimy and gross. This is one of our favorite meal stops when we were in Raton. They have a nice selection, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. On one occasion when we ate there, they had a staff member patiently take time to prepare the plates for an elderly gentleman so that the gentleman did not need to get up from his table. There is a limit to their menu, but chiefly because this is a small town in a rather isolated location (even though it is on the Interstate). It is a fairly easy detour if you're coming off of the Interstate, and better than many of the fast food options. read more
