I got a private room for right around $50 a night, which is *AMAZING* for this part of Hong Kong. The hostel is an easy less than 5 minute walk from the Yau Ma Tei subway station, right off of Nathan Road. When I checked in, I liked the look of the common room. Plenty of places to sit and relax, and also a computer if you need to use one. They also have bottled water and other beverages to sell. Everyone I interacted with the week I was there was fantastic. Anything I needed to find, I could find in the immediate neighborhood, and they showed me exactly where it was on a map. I also needed to print up a couple of emails for tours I was taking, and they printed those out for me also. There is also Wi-Fi throughout the building, which was fast enough for me to stream video with, even using a VPN for security. I was on a higher floor, and still had no problem with it. The hostel/guesthouse is in one highrise building. For security purposes, you press your room key up against a sensor in the elevator, and it will give you only access to the floor you are staying on. The room was very small, but again, for what I was paying for a private room in Hong Kong, it was perfect. The room had a bed, a small bathroom, and a TV. I was living out of my suitcase for the week, but there was plenty of space to put my gear and still move around. My TV did not work the first day or so, but as soon as they could get a technician in, they couldn't get it to work, so they just replaced the whole TV. There was also 2 different places to plug in my voltage converter, so I could keep my electronics charged. I told them that they did not need to send someone up to replace my towel or fold my comforter every day, but they did anyway. i thought that was a nice touch. As for the neighborhood, as I mentioned, it is close to the Subway which, combined with the bus, and ferry systems, will get you almost anywhere in town. There is an express bus to and from the airport that runs on Nathan Road just a block and a half away. There are tons of local restaurants in the neighborhood, where you can find all sorts of food, from standard, to very , um, "adventurous". (I *actually* found the duck tongue in soy sauce very tasty. I learned that duck tongues have bones. I didn't get to try the snake soup at another spot, though. :) ) Right outside the front door is the Temple Street Night Market, where you can find just about anything you are looking for. Be prepared to haggle, and you will find some great deals. Overall, a great place to stay run by great people. However, there is one important rule to follow, especially if you are staying in the dorms. (See picture.)

Finding this place can be tricky as the lobby is not on ground floor, but you have to go up stairs to get there. To get to the hotel from the airport, take the A11 or N11 bus which has a bus stop right across the street. It's $40 HKD, exact change, and your stop is number 13, Wan Chai Fire Station. After getting off, go towards the crosswalk in front of the bus stop, make a right across the street, then make a left before the building that says "Yesinn." Go up the stairs, and if you see 1F, you need to go up 1 more floor to 2F in order to get to the lobby. There's a $100 HKD Cash deposit upon checking in, so bring some change. Also, bring your own towel as the place will charge you for using a towel. The common room is pretty chill and there are almost always other english speaking solo travelers as well if you wanted to meet with people. Room is big, clean, and quiet while the bed is light for solo travelers, but it's not bad. The place has a locker for each bed and there's a reading light. Note that there are no outlets except the UK outlet, so US and EU plugs will not work. List of things to bring: Soap Towel $100 HKD UK Style 220V plug Overall, 9.5/10 great place to stay.

Anyways, I first went to this place because my friend was visiting Hong Kong and he found this place and asked me to go check it out. Surprisingly it is located in the centre of Causeway Bay and just 2 minute walk to Time Square and the rate each night was just around HKD$200. I probably will give it a try if one day I am homeless as it is definitely a bargain for all. The common room is very cozy and as a hostel, it is where you will get the information where to go around Hong Kong and meet up with people. They have computers and printer for use; and a kitchen right next to it. The staff are very young and funny which is also a plus. The room was rather nice, the only disadvantage might be that you have to remain your curtain down as it is in Causewaybay and you should know about the seriousness of light pollution in Hong Kong, but it could be easily fixed. The room was very nice and definitely not noisy at all. But given everyone comes here to party, so who needs to sleep anyway? And the highlight of this place is 100% the rooftop. It is like a free beer garden. Of course you need to buy your own beer but supermarket is just around the corner. The rooftop is very spacious and nicely decorated where you can chill, get drunk and meet up with friends. I highly recommend this place for tourists as it is definitely FAR BETTER than other hostels in Causeway Bay.

Besides, the walk from the subway to the hostel isn't scary as long as it's not in the middle of the night, so that's all fine. The hostel itself is the biggest one I've seen in my life; it's seriously HUGE and so are the rooms. I did miss this 'hostel feeling' (all the lonely travelers hanging out together in the common room) as the common room was a restaurant that's also open for other visitors. Talking about that restaurant: it's so cozy! And the breakfast (which is included in your stay) consists of three options: Western style, Chinese style and Hong Kong style. That's just something I only can like. Another thing to like (a lot) about Mei Ho House is the fact that they have their own little post office ánd personal stamp. Oh, I'm sorry for being such a big mail fan :)

Check Inn has dorms on four different floors: 14th has the nicest deluxe rooms and common room, 13th has a bigger common room, female dorms, mixed, and a private three person bunk bed, 3rd floor is the most open as it is the reception and has the oldest kind of bathrooms, 2nd floor is the smallest but each room has 6 occupants instead of the usual 7-9. The family/friends that run the place are nice people who can also speak English. If you ever need any tourist help or getting to places you can ask them, they are very patient. One of them went over saying Tsim Sha Tsui with a lady way too many times. Anyways, the bathrooms are always cleaned, all the floors but the 3rd have rainfall shower heads (my favorite). Nights range from $178-$232HKD. Always book earlier to get a cheaper price and don't be afraid to call them up to book either. Just an FYI though if you have heights, don't like climbing up bunk beds (the ladder goes straight up and can be slippery in socks) let them know or ask for a bed on a lower level. Also, make sure you get an email from them regarding check in time and they will give you the key code into the apartment complex, if not then email them or get their number so you're prepared. Not only is this hostel close to the subway (MTR), but it's also close to local restaurants, 7-11, and other shops. For the hostel itself, prices are reasonable. I booked my reservation through Hostelworld.com and had reserved a double ensuite room. The room itself was nice. For a double, it included a shower + toilet. The shower worked nicely (had great water pressure!) and overall, the room was clean and tidy. While the room itself wasn't extremely big, it was spacious enough for two people. Plus, having a TV in the room was a nice touch and everything from Wifi to A/C worked smoothly. As for the common room area, it's pretty small but clean. Included in your stay is free access to the kitchen area for basic needs (water, tea, coffee) and also a fridge to store your food. Another perk that I really enjoyed at this hostel was the luggage storage. If you check in / out early, you can simply leave your stuff at the hostel and go out and do your thing. However, your luggage isn't securely locked behind a room but rather, it's just against the wall that is directly across from the receptionist. So if you're leery about someone taking off with your bag, I wouldn't recommend storing anything valuable in your luggage. In general though, I did feel safe leaving my bag there (since it was just clothes + toiletries). Overall, the stay here was very pleasant. I would definitely stay here again!

I booked 3 nights on hotels.com at a rate of about $35 USD per night or $270 HKD per night. It's ideal if you're a backpacker or just want a cheap place to sleep and don't care about the size of the room. I'm giving this place 4 stars due to the price, location and professional management. Once I booked online, I received an email from InnSight asking to confirm my flight time and with detailed directions on how to get there from HK Airport. Located just off of Nathan Road, InnSight is conveniently located on the Kowloon side and just a short walk from metro station. The hostel is located in a building that is shared with other businesses. The front door has a secure entry gate and a key pad allowing you to easily let yourself in by entering the code which is given to you at check-in. My room was very small with the bed taking up two thirds of the space. I was able to tuck the luggage under the bed, but there isn't much room to move around. The room also had a small bathroom with excellent pressure and hot water. Unfortunately there was no mirror in the bathroom, only the bed area. Outside the room was a little self serve tea/hot water station. The management was especially friendly and the place was very clean. The free wifi is also fast.
