As I wrote this review, I changed from 3 to 2 to 1 star. With each "bad," I realized what a shady business Ashline runs. They moved my parents from their home of 51 years to a retirement community 2 miles away. Services provided included packing, the move and unpacking.
The good:
Arrived on time
Moved quickly
Nothing broken
The bad:
The language in the waiver my parents had to sign waived all responsibility for items broken during the move. Thank goodness nothing was broken, but this is a pretty shady practice to completely let them off the hook, especially when they did the packing!
As other reviewers stated, they also charge for travel time to and from their office to the site. I have moved many times, and never paid for this. Creative way for them to pad the bill.
Payment policy not clearly explained. My parents were told they could pay via credit card or check. They paid for the packing via check, but then when they tried to switch to credit card the day of the move, they were told that they had to be "set up" for a credit card transaction. Hard to believe a moving company wouldn't have a Square or ability to charge a credit card on the fly. The crew had left already assuming Teresa had their credit card information. Teresa came back that night to pick up the check, even though she was coming back the next morning.
Didn't pack everything. On the day of the move, found several cabinets in the kitchen that hadn't been packed. I ended up packing them myself.
I had explicitly told the moving crew that the carpet in the living room was to be moved. They left without it, and I had to call Teresa to get them to come back. There were also a few odds and ends left on the floor in my parents bedroom like pillows and a dehumidifier.
Going through cabinets and dressers after they left, the unpacking was very hastily done (which explains why they went so fast). Linens were just shoved into drawers unfolded, and some of the kitchen cabinets were haphazard.
My parents were quoted $600 for packing materials (boxes, bubble wrap, paper, etc). They were moving the equivalent of a 2 bed/2 bath home, and that seemed excessive. Despite being a moving company, they apparently don't keep any packing materials on hand, so they were going to charge not just for the materials, but their time shopping for them. They also don't provide mattress bags, even at a charge. Every move I've ever done has had the moving company provide this.
The ugly:
As they were unpacking, Teresa offered to get rid of my parent's boxes for them. There was no mention of an additional charge at that time. Teresa could not fit all the boxes in her truck, and stated she would send a crew by the following day to pick up the remaining boxes. As she was leaving and my parents were writing out the check, she just casually mentions that she had added 1 1/2 hrs to the bill for the box removal. I texted her around 4 pm on the following day to see when the crew would be by. She said she had forgotten to tell them, and that everyone was already back, and she was out of town. She said the earliest they could do the pick up was 3 days later. The boxes were piled in my parent's garage, so this was 3 days where they were unable to use the garage. It was very convenient for her to jet back out to get payment, but when it came to something we needed, she couldn't be bothered to send someone by. They also chose to dispose of the boxes (or so they claim, given what they charge for materials, I wouldn't put it past them to use them for another client) at a landfill close to them rather than the one literally a mile from my parent's, presumably so they could charge more for travel time. read more
