Because she was able to layer them with such nuance and specificity that it seems unlikely she could have done it with any but natural ability. An example: When we had gotten far enough that I felt comfortable divulging some basic facts (that I was a graduate-level design student), she correctly identified the topic of my thesis. For you inquiring minds, here's how that worked: When I told her that my area of study was design, she immediately began contextualizing the nature of my work, describing my thought process, which was accurate. She then used a very specific metaphor (i.e. "it's almost like..."). Except that it was not "almost like"; it was, indeed, the exact topical framework I had chosen for my thesis the week before. Until Kelly, only my professor and my mentor had been aware of it. Fairly, I cannot guarantee that anyone else will have this experience. I chose Kelly very deliberately based on the feeling that I would know immediately what was up and went in with specific intentions to check against.
