I've found that MMA gyms tend to be more in line with the training we get in Kyokushin than most traditional martial arts schools of other styles here in the USA, because they train hard and fight full contact. While I didn't get a chance to spar these guys, the padwork was excellent, and then there was a bunch of MMA-related balance ball stuff that kicked my butt! I went for the Muay Thai and MMA class, and I was glad I showed up. Everyone was super nice. I was the only woman there, but I didn't feel unwelcome, nor did I feel coddled. I have a lot of physical disabilities (being female isn't one of them) and the coach accepted when I said I wasn't able to do an activity safely, but he also gave me something else to do, which I appreciated. All of the students were polite, friendly, down to earth, and fun to train with. Super nice guys. They don't put on airs and there isn't a bunch of bowing and standing in certain position type protocol, but don't get the idea that they are thugs because of that. MMA people are just as chill as TMA people. Actually, they're kind of MORE chill than a lot of TMA people. The gym is huge and very well outfitted. There are a couple mat rooms, there's a room with heavy bags, there's a boxing ring, and there's a cage. Lots of striking pads, focus mitts, gloves, shin guards, etc etc. The place seems clean. There are a lot of different classes, and they are very welcoming to new people. Check them out. I'm glad I did, and I wish I had more than one day here so I could go back!

There is very little instruction on basics and fundamentals, and the head instructor makes fun of white belts on his group chat. Also, the vibe there is somewhat "culty". I received an injury at my last class and after telling the instructor that I needed at least a month to heal, I was dropped from his "list" like a hot potato before my healing time had even ended. He also regularly drops the f bomb with children there. Just something to think about if you think about enrolling your child.

Andrew just got his black belt through Eddie Bravo, every class but the women's class is taught by him. He competes often at a high level and wins using technique he shows in class. Andrew has coached me at every tournament I have competed in and has been super present in building my game from zero experience to purple belt. The mats are cleaned well consistently. I have never gotten ringworm or staph from training here. The people here are good at making sure no-one walks barefoot off the mats and that people cut their nails. There's classes three times a day Monday - Friday for a variety of levels. The fundamentals at six has no live rolling and is easy to dip into but can be a good workout if you drill hard. The atmosphere is relaxed, unless we are doing comp specific training on Thursdays for advanced class. I've seen a lot of people lose fat training, even beginners just doing advanced. 10th planer grants pass is hands down the best jiu jitsu in the Rogue Valley.

We tried a community wrestling team the year before and our son wanted nothing to do with it. Gave it a half season but eventually pulled him out because of his lack of interest. A few months back I was seeing FB adds for a free introductory session at Grappletown. We signed our son up and after his first visit, he was adamant about coming back for more. A few months in at 2 days a week and he's still full speed ahead enjoying every class. Coach Matt, Coach Kale, and others have been very patient with the kids as they all progress and focus at different levels. We like Grappletown so much that even I've decided to join in while exploring a newfound motivation to enter into a fitness journey. After a back injury has kept me from being as active as I've been most my life, I've finally healed up enough to explore these opportunities.
