The Pebble: no other B&B holds a candle to this lovely establishment…read more We absolutely loved our stay and would come back again and again without hesitation. Everything was clean and well appointed. Maid service each day. Elizabeth and her husband (he was away for work while we were there) and their daughter Lizzy (college student) were an absolute delight. Elizabeth has been in the B&B service industry for a while, and she knows how to delight and serve her customers. Elizabeth is gracious like a family member and we feel like we gained a wonderful new friend in her and Lizzy. Ask Elizabeth to tell you about the romantic story about how she named The Pebble! We miss the Pebble already, and you will not regret staying here! Location: Perfectly situated in an affluent and highly desirable location, just far enough away from the city center, Dal University, the lake and all major highways. Price: Perfectly matched for this lovely and well-appointed B&B. You will find much cheaper, but they are not even in the same league as The Pebble. We found the price rightly valued and much more that we asked for. Kids: We have a 3 years old and Elizabeth accommodated us with a small mattress which we put on the floor; this was perfect! The room is very spacious which allowed all three of us to have ample room to do our own thing. Breakfast: This was included in our stay. Elizabeth is seriously a gourmet chef and our breakfasts were so decadent each morning--we felt so taken care of.

The setting on side street in a quiet neighborhood made for a relaxing stay at the property and the location was perfect for getting to and from the city center and other nearby sites. Our hosts were friendly, helpful, and attentive to our needs. The friendly banter around the breakfast table with other guests and our hosts was lively and enjoyable. The accommodation was excellent as were the wonderful breakfasts. If Halifax is included in future travel plans we will stay at the Pebble again.

Brent & Wendy Lee were fantastic. So warm and inviting and eager to help us with dinner suggestions, tourist recommendations, and anything we could dream of to make us more comfortable. Their home is a beautiful gem and our room was large, comfortable, beautifully decorated (most of the artwork on display was painted by the two of them!) and the yard and gardens were spectacular. We appreciated being in the suburbs down a quiet lane and a little closer to the Halifax airport, it made our next day just that much easier and more relaxed. Breakfast was gourmet level. No expense was spared, no detail overlooked. Sugar cubes for tea? Sure but also rock candy swizzle sticks if you preferred! Beautiful garnishes on each plate. We had "Atlantic breakfast" tea, fresh fruit served with a dollop of yogurt and a hint of honey drizzle and chopped nuts, a cheddar chive biscuit with eggs and hollandaise sauce with a side of ham. Every bite was perfect. The only thing was slightly odd was the ensuite bathroom had a curtain instead of a door. It was very elegant, but didn't offer much privacy between the bedroom and bathroom. The giant whirlpool tub more than made up for that though, talk about WOW factor.

And while I've never been an overnight guest myself, I've visited its enchanting interiors and will marvel accordingly. My roommate's parents were in town and staying at the Waverley. Living quite close at the time, we took a walk over to have a visit and investigate the premises. Decor embraced Old Victorian Style and European decadence. The space was personal, rich and beautifully presented. Chandeliers, wallpapering and popping textures appealed to my visuals. It all takes one back to an older time, when furnishings were classic and gladly adorned. Its bed and breakfast style allows for a home away from home feel, but in the lapse of Old Style luxury. Apparently rooms each have their own unique look- no two the same! This would make for reason to come again... They offer free wi-fi in all guest rooms and a tasteful hot breakfast buffet for all guests. (also free) The staff seemed kind and welcoming in my brief encounter and it all made me reflect quite positively on this little spot! The Waverly has age to back its appeal. The inn has been around for many generations and housed Halifax's own Anna Leonowens and Jon Doul. And on an international scale: the one and only Oscar Wilde! With such deep roots and moderate prices, The Waverly proves to be a top contender in Halifax hospitality. If I ever need to hotel in Halifax, this is a spot that comes to mind!

This is a review that I've been dreading having to write, if for no other reason than I know…read morethere's very little I can say that can do my time at this stunning bed and breakfast justice. Having been very lucky to stay in some pretty incredible places around the world, there's no question that The Old Parsonage easily ranks within my top five. I was stuck looking for a place to get away for a couple of days to myself during which I could do nothing but write, drink wine, relax, and write some more. (And drink more wine...obviously.) After a chance meeting with one of the two owners, an artist himself who takes pride in offering a unique space for creativity, I was sold on the Maitland Suite and booked myself in for a two night, three day stay. When I finished the hour-ish drive from the city, I was floored to realize that I had the entire building to myself - meaning that my plans of being a recluse in my room for three straight days instantly changed to cozying up in any of the six to eight different sitting rooms that were all at my disposal. The fact that I was able to feel as comfortable as I would at home, except with infinitely more beautiful surroundings and gorgeous wood-fire heat, was unbelievable. From room to room, it's plain to see that not a single detail has been overlooked. Each space is a meticulous collection of shabby-chic décor that's both luxurious and liveable - that is, it's not a place where you feel uncomfortable spending the entire day and night. I lounged around like I owned the place, stopping short of napping in the middle of the main living room although I can't imagine that having been a problem... You won't have to rush out in the mornings in search of provisions either. I would make my way downstairs at my leisure to find fresh orange juice, coffee, toast, and scrambled eggs ready for the feasting as I chatted with the owners about life in the UK, our favourite cities around the world, and the importance of getting away from it all from time to time. Truly, I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead, I'll just say that before even leaving the premises, I had already arranged two more plans to return with family, and am already looking forward to my next writing escape. I can't imagine spending them anywhere else.

Last month, the hubs and I won a trip to Nova Scotia. Yes seriously! It was an amazing 2 night…read moretrip to see 6 Primrose at the Devour Food and Film Fest in Wolfville, NS, but I also knew that we NEEDED to add on a couple days and see Halifax. Hence, where the Halliburton comes in. I spent a couple days searching Hotels.com for all the options, reading websites, and talking to peeps from Halifax to get an idea of where we'd want to stay. I finally settled on the Halliburton and so happy that we did. It's a historic site literally 3 blocks from the water. The buildings official dates are listed outside on plaques as Halliburton House 1823, Henry House 1834, and Pryor-Benney House 1831. You can see the bay out the front door. We ended up with a basement suite to save our money for eating all the seafood our bellies could hold and it worked out great. The bathroom had been recently renovated and Bath and Body Works toiletries were complimentary. It's a series of three townhouses that have been converted into a "boutique hotel." Parking is included but limited and super squished. I don't think you could fit a large truck in the back. They do have overflow parking down the street next to the waterfront, but I'm not sure of the details. Breakfast is included and was your standard continental with one or two hot items. On our stay the hot item was beans. There was also cold sliced ham and hard boiled eggs. Coffee and tea is available complimentary throughout your stay. The basement did have a bit of an older musty smell, I'm not sure you can get around that being old and so close to the water but I didn't mind. Right off the lobby, is "Stories," their fine dining restaurant. The menu looked lovely and I'm sure it would make for a romantic eat in experience but we were more interested in walking around and checking out local pubs. I highly recommend Henry House Pub just two blocks away (delicious and traditional meat pies) and the Bicycle Thief (waterfront) for a fancier night out. Also, no elevator here if that's a concern for you or your party. I would definitely stay here again. So many things to do and see all within walking distance. https://www.thehalliburton.com

On-site parking is a definite plus for Halifax and the spaces were adequately sized, but when an oversize pickup parked next to our little compact car, we had a heck of a time getting out of our space without bonking into the neighbor's porch. Location is decent but unexceptional; it's a few blocks away from the main attractions of Downtown Halifax, although our room was nice and quiet. Be aware that the rooms are all located in townhouses that are extremely narrow, with tight hallways, low ceilings, and a lot of half-steps that can pose a tripping hazard. Staff was pleasant but we would have appreciated if someone had showed us to our room, especially since it wasn't all that easy to find from the front desk with how the Halliburton is set up. Overall, our stay was adequate, but we would have chosen to stay at a more central and modern hotel if we had to do it over.

The place had four customers. We sat down and the waitress came over and took our drink order which was a tequila cocktail and a Peroni, both on the menu but the waitress came back saying she had neither the Peroni nor Tequila. Advice 1, get some Tequila or you're not a real bar/restaurant. The menu is pretty pretentious. They charge 35 dollars for a 6oz rib steak... that's barely even a real steak. I stared at the menu for a long time and finally after reading it ten times we settled on the cheesy bread thing, and mussels to start, the spaghetti and single meatball a gin replacement to the tequila and a Keith's. The cheesy bread thing was covered in tomatoes and they leaked cold juice into the bread and made it a cold juicy wet diaper. The Mussels were like whoever made them didn't really give a damn. There is so much you can do with Mussels, do a yummy sauce with a nice splash of Tidal Bay. Not here. I've seen a lunch truck do a better plate of mussels. The spaghetti really stole the show though. They claim House Made Pasta and a fresh giant meatball, the only giant meatball was me for ordering this mess. The pasta I'm almost sure was over cooked catelli. The sauce was either from a jar or tasted exactly like it was. Finally, the showstopper was the meatball. Bland with zero taste and not a salt shaker in sight. Like a champ I tried, I really tried to eat this bowl of Italian tragedy but the meatball was also burnt solid like a round disc at the bottom. I put it in my mouth and as I spit it back out onto a plate I realized simultaneously that it was unseasoned, overcooked, burnt, frozen then thawed out and probably microwaved. I know this because it was a texture of used to be burnt but now it's just semi solid wet almost crunchy and tasted like cat food (don't ask how I know what cat food tastes like, or a wet cold diaper for that matter, it was a long time ago). As I said I spit what was left out. I looked over at my Fiancé and saw her having a similar experience. The server came back asking how everything was tasting and I told her I spit out the meatball pointing at the remainder on the plate. She just took it away. We finished up our drinks we didn't want and then asked for the check. It arrived with the spaghetti still on it of course, no sense comping it and salvaging a possible second visit or the full tip. I paid a 10% on it but I should have gone down to 5% or less, and then we got up out of there. My Fiancé mentioned we should have just gotten McDonalds fries instead of paying 80 dollars for this trip to yuck town. So if you read down this far, you are either a masochist who still plans on a first hand experience or you are the owner. If the former, just go somewhere else, if you are the latter you are going to just be in denial which is sad because Fall River could desperately use a good restaurant and we were both saddened that this one isn't going to be it. Advice 2 Put a burger on the menu, your pretentious levels are way too high, and back again to Advice 1 Stock your bar it doesn't really spoil easy.

We used to frequent the restaurant before it became the Fourth Lock and we loved everything about it and we were sad to see it leave the area. Tonight we dropped in and we loved the ambience of this restaurant it has a hipster vibe. I had the Caesar salad which blew me away I can't remember when I've had such an amazing salad. I then had the spaghetti and meatball, and it was amazing as well. The meatball was so big i wasn't able to finish it but I definitely brought it home with me. My husband had the squash soup and he said it was really good , one of the best he's tried and he had the linguine and mussels and he could barely finish it saying it was truly fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly and came across as though she was truly happy we were there. Overall the experience was fantastic and we will be regulars at this restaurant.
