I received a text message introducing my technician when he was on his way. Preston A. showed up with a big smile and laid out a mat on my front porch. He explained what to expect and got right to work. While he was working, I asked him a dozen questions, and with a ton of personality, he took the time to answer each one. If an explanation was needed, he provided it. After replacing the air filter and closing everything up, he offered a coupon for a free tune-up in the fall! I'm sure this isn't always the case, but what great customer service! There were no big upsells, and the price was as advertised. It's nice to get what you expect these days because every company seems to be trying to upsell everything and get you to buy things you don't need. These guys were exactly as advertised and did a great job. I'll definitely be using them in the future.

This business is part-time with the owner operating from his home with his son apprenticing. I had…read morea walk-in shower temperature mixing valve that was failing and I couldn't get the handle set screw removed to inspect it. This rounded out the Allen head socket and I informed the owner about this when I scheduled. First the good. The owner scheduled me directly for a few days out, availability was good. He kept the appointment on time and communicated that he was on his way. He is competent, experienced, and licensed with the State of Idaho. He fixed the problem by replacing the mixing cartridge but had to destroy the handle to remove it because of the set screw damage. The finish quality is good. The bad: he is not totally transparent about his pricing. When scheduling, I asked what his hourly rate was and he refused to disclose that, telling me that he prefers to work on a unit price basis and gave me an estimate of $325 for the job with a $175 call-out fee minimum. When he arrived, he determined that he would have to drill out the set screw and buy a new shower kit (head, finish nipple, faring, valve handle, and valve faring plate. At that point I should have asked him what he was going to charge for the extra work. When he was done with the job, he paused, contemplating what he was going to charge me and ended up doubling the price. He did not detail the cost of materials or time on the invoice so there is no way of knowing if he marked materials up or whether he was covering time until his next job. So, if you want a competent plumber but one who may take advantage of your situation and charge a price with a comfortable profit for him at no risk, then he is your man. I was probably overcharged (on a competitive basis) but the job was only a couple of hours so it was limited in any case.

I found Stateline Plumbing and Drain and was willing to try one more. What a blessing, Travis called me back within an hour and was here in the time frame he said he would be. Travis travelled 25 miles to get here. He and his helper immediately went to work. Guess what with a little over hour they had open all the drains. He answered all of our questions. He is so polite, very professional, communicative and take so much pride in his work. He was apprehensive at first to do an outdoor shower for liability purposes, but still came to spec the job, which I really appreciated. He ended up taking the job and was exciting about the challenge and the design and went as far as doing research on how he could make the water valves safe from freezing in the winter. He just went above and beyond every step of the way. I really appreciated the complementary home inspection of all the plumbing inside and outside the house PRIOR to starting any work. That was so smart and so nice and it actually turned out to be a life saver for me when he found a pin hole leak in a pipe underneath my house that had been leaking for weeks!
