It was a hot Houston summer and I was in the area desperate for water. I didn't think anything of Asante initially but walked in after seeing cases of water in their window display. When I walked in, I knew I had stumbled upon a super cool biz.
I had initially thought it was a typical convenience store, but noticed how different everything looked inside. I saw clothes, hair pieces, memorabilia, imported products galore, and media. I had a double take over the name and it all made sense: This was no mini mart, it's a dedicated store for African goods of all kinds.
"It's hot. Take one from the refrigerator." said the man behind the counter. I was too busy looking at the posters, magazines, and other random import stuff and didn't pay attention. Instead he walked over to a corner, where a fridge with a glass door was and swung it open and grabbed a cold water. He initially didn't even want to charge me because it was a single bottle of water. So I bought several.
I'm sure my future visits will be more about perusing their African goods and water will merely be the bonus. Kudos to outstanding customer service. read more
