Food is amazing and the ambience of the new interior was amazing. The service was great, our server was very nice and attentive.

We went for hibachi. The food and the show were amazing. They did a truly wonderful job. The hibachi chef was very engaging and was certainly talented as well. I like the menu options for hibachi. They had more combo options that most places. They also cooked everything to perfection and the portion was generous and filling. The only negative was the wait time. We had a 5:30 reservation. We were seated at 5:25. At 6:15 they say someone else down with us. They then took their order and didn't start cooking until 6:40, more than an hour after our reservation. We did not like that especially with little kids and getting them to sit for an hour before even starting the show. read more

A good experience on Mother's Day! Made a reservation for 6 at 8p and we're promptly seated--most tables were finishing up and was clear that we were going to be one of the last to dine. Server was very friendly and very good. Sushi and apps were fine as was the eventual hibachi. The cook was very entertaining with all the usual gags and jokes. Both the steak and the chicken were cooked perfect and were very good. Portions were huge of course--plenty of leftovers to take home for the week. Whole staff was very gracious. This was a delivery order from Uber Eats: having said that and knowing that I pay a premium for the delivery service, it would be nice for this restaurant to pack their items with more care. When my sushi rolls arrived, it looked more like a crime scene than something I looked forward to eating. The soup (that I didn't know was soup as it was listed in the "noodle" section was disappointing. The broth had zero flavor, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would leave the tails on tempura shrimp. The Gyoza was pan fried, and plain grim. The atmosphere was great, however, the sushi was lukewarm and the salmon very fishy. The hibachi and rice were good and the portions plentiful but the service was atrocious. We had to go beg for our steamed rice, water, drinks, sauce, sushi rolls, ice cream- I mean it was rough. The sushi was adequate, I have had better. This would be a 3-Star review but I have one complaint. The menu located at: http://www.asahirestaurant.us/speciall.htm listed different pricing for the "early bird specials" than was actually on the menu in the restaurant. I did not look at the other prices but BE WARNED, you may be expecting to pay less than you actually will. I paid more than 20% of what I was expecting prior to coming in. I really don't enjoy writing bad reviews but this was the worst hibachi I've had in a very long time. The vegetables in the hibachi chicken (which is actually just teriyaki chicken) were burnt - black pieces of burnt food mixed in with the veggies. Not to mention the veggies were all cabbage and onions. No carrots, zucchini, mushrooms or anything you usually get in hibachi veggies... I asked for no teriyaki since that's not what I'm used to on my hibachi and regretted it since I ended up with a small portion of very bland chicken. We had takeout and received no white sauce on the side. The sushi was mostly just rice and had little flavor and we just threw it away after trying a piece of each roll. The salad I received with my "hibachi" dinner was the most laughable side salad I've ever seen. I could count the pieces of lettuce as the little container wasn't even half full.. sadly this was the worst and most overpriced meal I've ever paid for and we won't be back. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this experience. I called ahead to see if reservations were needed for hibachi at 5:30 with this size group and was told they would take our name, but no problem walking in at that time. We were seated, drink order taken immediately, ordered within minutes, and soup was out in 3, followed by salad as we were finishing. The nigiri arrived between the two and was above average and about average price (this isn't a discount sushi place, but the cost was comparable to other establishments). Our chef was GREAT! of the 5 kids at the table (two in their teens who would frown on me calling them such), 3 had an absolute blast while the older girls tried to keep the smiles off their faces. "Japanese Basketball", consisting of the chef tossing fried eggs into their mouths off the spatula, is not quite likely my daughter's favorite sport. He even joked with the ones pretending not to have fun, but truly played it up with the younger 3. Food was hot, tasty, and omg plentiful - took home 4 to go boxes and am pretty sure 3 of us have dinner for tomorrow. Cool notes - 1) go early and order before 6pm and adult hibachi is $5 per plate (cheaper than kids meals even), 2) for those of us who need it, they have gluten-free soy sauce and actually understand the deal and call easily share what is and what is not gluten free. We don't do hibachi often as it is a treat for the kids, but next time we do, I know where I am going...Loved it! read more

On first arriving to this place, there is plenty of parking and a lovely environment. The place is clean and professional. The one thing is the hibachi chefs are hilarious. My husband and I couldn't tell if they were faking their fake asian accents or if their accents were really that bad. I started off with the Asahi Special Roll that has white fish, crab meat, and tuna rolled and fried in tempura batter. I loved everything about it except for it's price. As for hibachi, I got the chicken and shrimp while my husband got the filet mignon and chicken. They started the course with a miso soup which was bland, and then a salad with ginger dressing that was lovely and flavorful. Next came the entertainment which was alright. They gave us a ton of yummy fried rice and veggies. My shrimp and his steak was delicious but the chicken was a down fall. It seemed like the exterior of the chicken bites were tough while the inside was tender. It was as if you had to break through a shell; as my husband put it. The food was fine, the atmosphere was nice, however the entertainment was very poor. I go to hibachi restaurants first and foremost for the entertainment factor. My wife and 2 year old dined here last night with me, and we were hoping for a nice show from the chef. However, the only "entertainment" he provided was the typical boring fire in the beginning, and the smoking train with the onions. I literally forgot he was there for our entertainment for the rest of the night. He went about his business, did not engage or interact with the diners, and swiftly left upon finishing cooking our food. No fun at all. My child preferred to watch Thomas the Train on my iPhone for lack of excitement. Next time, rather than sharing a table at dinner with 5 other strangers, we'll just grab a quiet table to the side. One other note to mention. My wife and I both commented at the end of the meal that while the food was on par with other hibachi restaurants, the portions were much much smaller. We usually are unable to finish our meals. But on this occasion, we both had perfectly clean plates and wanting more at the end. Even with the small scoop of sherbet at the end, it was not enough. And I had to snack on some food when I returned home. Also, we both ordered white rice, but it did not come until we were nearly through with our meal, and that's after we had to ask the waitress for it. I was craving for some hibachi so i went to the one closest to my house. And to my surprise I had wished I had known this place earlier. Even though they were short staffed due to covid, the lady was very kind, the waiter was professional and the cook was very entertaining. Most importantly the food was really good. I tried the Johnson Ferry roll and I will be getting this roll now more often because it is so good!!! I hope the business gets back on track as covid eases out!! We came in without a reservation just after 7 pm.  Another party that had a reservation was seated and there was enough room left at the table for the 3 of us so we were seated with them.    The table on the other side of the room was seated right before us and their server came out and took their orders, brought them drinks and they had their soup long before a server even acknowledged our group was there.   It was 7:40 before a server came to our table.  I'm not sure if a member of the other party had complained or not but once a server did arrive everything felt very rushed after that.  Our chef was fun, he threw eggs at our faces, missed most of our mouths making quite a mess for whoever had to clean the floor later.  When the bill came it was all given to one person with the other party.   Even though we were seated separately and never interacted with the other group she put us all on one check.  We had to wait quite a while for her to return and correct it, it was after 9 pm before we were able to pay and leave.   We all ordered the same thing, steak and all 3 of us had upset stomachs about an hour later. read more

This is by far the best Japanese hibachi restaurant I've been to in a long time. Another plus is that it's not a chain restaurant, this is a family owned establishment. I was on break from school in California and went back home to visit family when my family took me to Asahi. They've been here a few times and always have had great food, good show and delicious sushi. The service staff is also very attentive, nice and very accommodating to any request that my family or I have. We sat at the hibachi table, i ordered steak and shrimp, my brother ordered steak and shrimp with a side of scallops. mom and dad each ordered sushi and sashimi from the sushi bar. The chef was very entertaining, playful and funny, he did all the tricks that you would expect from a hibachi restaurant. Everything was delicious, my steak was perfectly medium rare, which the chef did ask in the beginning of the mean. You can even specify how well done you want your scallops, like my brother did with his side order of scallops. I couldn't be happier with everything. I highly recommend this place for a great dinner and gathering with family and friends. we sat around chatting for a couple hours after the hibachi chef ended his cooking. it was a very enjoyable night with my family made better by the delicious food and drinks at Asahi. read more

Okay, I am giving this place four stars instead of three because I think i't the best sushi place in East Cobb. I might be wrong, so feel free to ell me otherwise and maybe I will try it next time I am in the 'burbs... Anyway, whenever I go and visit my folks we always end up at Asahi because we are a sushi-lovin' family! The interior is like that of other Japanese restaurants- it reminds me of a smaller Benihana. You can either eat on the steak side or the sushi side, but you can order from either menu, unlike some places where the waitress apologizes profusely when saying you cannot deviate from your chosen side of the restaurant. My mom seems to be in love with some tempura shrimp roll- she says no one makes it as crunchy and fresh as they do. My dad sometimes orders from the steakhouse side and always gets a huge portion of food that he enjoys some of later at home. My sisters and I always get either the cucumber or avocado rolls, and they are good, but that's all they offer for us to eat in the way of sushi. On certain days of the year (Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.) they sometimes offer free adorable chopsticks in a nice wooden case to the person being honored that day. I would call ahead if you are dead set on a pair of free chopsticks! The service is always great and after a few trips they recognize you and seat you where they know you already want to go. I would definitely try this place out if you're ever in the area and need a quick fix for sushi! read more

This place was good but it wasn't the best I ever had. Don't get me wrong thus far in East Cobb it is the best I have had and it is nice to know there is a place near my house that serves decent sushi. What was weird about this place is the prices.. $4.50 for a bowl of edamame? What I can buy the 3 pounds of it at the store for that price. Besides I am used to not paying for this. (Spoiled Northerner) The ginger salad was also a little steep at $2.50 a bowl... WHAT? While I am not used to getting that for free I am used to paying $1.00 oh well I digress. The rolls were priced fair and the super crunch is one of the best I have had in the area. I also got the Philly Roll and to be honest it had absolutely no flavor. I could not taste the salmon (probably a good thing), or the avocado or cream cheese. I could feel some of the textures in my mouth but it was almost tasteless. Think I need to go with a larger group of people next time to try more things on the menu they had a pretty extensive sushi menu. I'm not ruling it out but it is definitely not the sushi place. This location has the unfortunate status of having been had (and yelped about) AFTER I went to Nakato. I have been here a couple times, and have enjoyed the meal each time. Last night, my parents took me here for my birthday dinner with them. This was highly amusing, since I went to dinner at Nakato on my birthday with a friend. The service is excellent, the place is clean, and they do some excellent hibachi. I had the opportunity to check the bathroom here, and it was reasonably clean on my visit as well. Not the cleanest I have ever seen, but it wasn't dirty either. I didn't check out the sushi bar, but the lady sitting at our table with her three kids had some sushi, and it looked good to me. Then again, as someone who does not regularly eat sushi, I wouldn't know good from bad sushi, so take that however you wish. In this case, it is the decor which loses it the second star. After having been to Nakato, their decor just doesn't quite measure up. That said, they're still better than Benihana. read more

If you enjoy the hibachi experience, you will get the hibachi experience here. It's the same menu as any other hibachi, and the amusing chefs do the same routine. The wait staff is always pleasant and attentive. I hear the sushi is quite good, but I haven't tried it (not a sushi person). I have tried ordering off the menu every time I have been here, and they have brought me the wrong thing almost every time: ton katsu instead of katsu don. I have pointed to it on the menu and said, "This: katsu don, NOT ton katsu, please" and they still brought me ton katsu! Last time, I had to spell out, "the dish with rice and egg, in a bowl, not fried cutlets on a plate" even though it is right there on their menu. If you want something besides hibachi or sushi, go to Tanaka or Umezono. That being said, I know most folks are coming for the sushi or the show, and for that I rate Asahi A-OK. read more
