There are some unique salsas you can add to your tacos, the one I've never tried before - is the one with pineapple, we couldn't get enough of it. We've tried the usual suspects - carne asada and al pastor, but they have more on their menu, some of them I've never heard of. The owner is a super cool guy who with a great personality and the service was excellent. I know there are tons of tacos options in Mexicali, but if you are reading this review - seriously, drive to this place and enjoy probably the best tacos you can get in Baja.

They are not taco stand but, it has the flavor of a traditional taco stand. They are not fancy taco shop but, well prepared that it can be a location to come for a good tacos with visitors or customers. This location is not too crowded but the service is pretty good. The one thing about tacos in Mexicali is that you get to load the taco with salsas that you want. Many of the shop will have at least 7 to 8 different salsas, bean, guacamole and so on. It's what makes Mexicali tacos different among the borderline. Here, you can also get a Parrilla. This is a hot metal plate loaded with cut grilled meat served at the table which gives you the delightful job of making your own taco combining the variety of salsa. Is tasty, fun and enjoyable way of eating. The flavor is very traditional well seasoned taco meat. Not just the Carne Asada but also Alpastor (seasoned pork meat) and chicken. The Chiles Guerito, a yellow mild chile pepper filled with ground meat and cheese with soy sauce dressing is a must to try. This is one of the specialties I enjoy when I come here. We used to go to a tried a true taco shop elsewhere in Mexicali, but it had been shutdown for some time and on our return it just wasn't the same. We came to Fuerte based on the recommendation of many in our family, and it did not disappoint. We had the carne asada tacos, which is what you need to get here. We did also try the quesadillas, but beyond that we just dove into the carne asada tacos. Tortillas were great and made on site. Waiters grilled the steak appetizer over open flame at the table, along with 5 other appetizers. Everything was way too salty, including the seafood ceviche. I ordered Mochomos signature rib eye medium rare. It came burned on one side and undercooked on the other. I like my food salty but knowing Mochomos' reputation I told the waiter 3 times, NO SALT, the steak still came VERY VERY HEAVILY SALTED, way above my tolerance, also had way too much grisles like cheap meats that I could not cut into with a steak knife, had to leave half. Mochomos' steak was just inedible. In contrary I always eat to the last bite at Morton, Black Angus, Ruth Chris ect. 3 bottles of wines costed about $65 each. The Chile's Cabernet Sauvignon smelled rotten with sulfur odors, like cheap California's $2 wines, tasted unpleasant. Local wine from Guadalupe Valley was tastier, fuller body, without malodor. The French bottle was weak and sour, not very good. Salt and pepper shakers are on the table, why oversalting their food? Mexicans do not have natural salty taste, but some restaurants in Mexico ridiculously oversalt their dishes to make clients thirsty and buy more drinks. I have seen this dishonest business in a number of fancy chains in Mexico. They have no care, no respect for their clients' tastes or health!
